My personal experience with diversity started in the military. Back then, I was a young female Airman on the way to my first deployment, after arriving at the airport with no one to meet me. Taking a taxi to the nearest base happened to be the solitary idea that passed over my head. The following day, I found myself at the wrong base; so a car proceeded to pick me up. While speaking to my unit I noticed a strange tone in their voice. That tone had me so nervous not knowing what how my situation would end up. So I checked out of my hotel, and waited outside for my ride. Waiting outside the hotel a male passed by several times, then eventually asked my name. I said, “Aaron McKee.” He laughed, realizing he passed by a couple of times,
”Diversity is about all us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.” Was stated by Jacqueline Woodson and is referred to millions of people from different religion, culture, color, etc. Diversity is just like a one of the most important spice in food . If there is no diversity than life will be so boring. Not everyone in a family has the same likes and dislikes; everyone is unique either by behavior or lifestyle or thoughts.
Additionally, diversity is important because diversity comes with diverse perspective, which will allow creative ways to maintain the unity within a community. In order for that to happen, we must teach people that the term “color blind” must be eliminated, because it creates an illusion that we are all one and the same, when in reality, we are very much different. I concluded that anyone can challenge any idea with the right preparation and
but not just as a whole but as individuals. Being able to open up to people who are different from you and not judging anyone different. The equality, unity, and freedom to express their mood, lifestyle, food, culture, and ethnicity freely and others adapting to it or be mindful of it. The open community of accepting everyone and not choosing or judging something for it’s difference. Diversity is seen in many ways and means many things.
Diversity helps us to see what is all around us and that we are all unique people and that we need to respect
She points out gender and racial diversity in a workplace help people bring their knowledge and intelligence together to increase team performance. In addition, people engage in more critical thinking and gain broader viewpoints when they hear different opinions from someone in a different
Diversity is a term that we are familiar with. It describes the differences between individuals and groups in terms of culture, nationality, ability, ethnic origin, gender, age, religion, belies, sexual orientation and social class (Clarke, Mark, Pat etal.,2012). At place of work, understanding and valuing diversity makes individual to sees differences in people as valuable and potential assets, encourages open dialogue on diversity and shares personal, and writes and speaks in language that's respectful and sensitive, encourages open dialogue on diversity. Understanding and valuing diversity is fundamental to all the other desired behaviours. Learning about others, talking with others, reflecting on your behaviour, and looking deep into yourself to truly assess and modify your behaviours related to diversity.
“Embrace diversity. Unite—Or be divided, Robbed, Ruled, Killed by those who see you as prey. Embrace diversity or be destroyed. ”(Butler 196) Lauren believes that we, as a society, must embrace each other’s differences and when society learns to do this, it can overcome
Introduction In my previous workplace the use of Inclusive Level one approach was not only used, but it was something that was enforced and encouraged. The U.S. Army prides itself on not only being the best Army in the world, but it thrives on being the most diversified organization in the world. “In addition to actively recruiting members of diverse groups, the most common approach to diversity within work organizations is providing sensitivity training and workshops to employees” (Mor Barak, 2014, p. 243). The Army does a great job of recruiting diverse people by setting up its recruiting stations in every region of our country.
One of the most interesting places for me to see diversity in action is at the movie theater. Going to the movies has become a form of escapism in the society in which we live in today and as defined in Merriam-Webster, it means to seek a distraction from reality by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy. Although humans are all unique individuals in life with different passions and ambitions, numerous times a day hundreds of thousands of people across the world can share
It is an opportunity to create an environment where all individuals can contribute their unique perspectives and experiences to the collective knowledge. By embracing diversity, we are able to push past our preconceived notions and challenge the status quo. We can create a culture of understanding and respect for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or other differences. Inclusivity allows us to see beyond our own experiences and gain new insights from those who are different from us. This helps us become better problem solvers, innovators and collaborators in whatever field we choose to pursue.
Being a white teenager and going to a primarily white school, it was a peculiar feeling to be the minority, the odd one out. It shaped my view on the world entirely. The diversity there was refreshing and welcome. I had never thought of diversity as inferior, but rather it never occurred to me how many different ideas came from a more diverse group of people.
Hobson (2014) states that by inviting people in your life that are diverse, you will find that they may challenge your assumption and make you grow as a person (Hobson). Luckily for me, my military experience has exposed me to workforce diversity, in which, Daft (2015) describes it as “a workforce made up of people with different human qualities or who belong to various cultural groups.” (p. 327). I can recall a time when I first joined the military, and my platoon received a new soldier from Haiti. His name was Saint-Jean, and he had recently joined the Army, conducted minimal language and cultural training to help him adapt to the norms of America, and ultimately, received orders and was stationed at Fort Drum, NY.

It as if certain groups of people with similar attributes have one piece of the puzzle and by diversity you can accumulate different pieces to see the whole picture. For example, if a group was developing a shampoo conditioner for women of color and only had white men in their team. Will they be able to truly understand or see what these women would want? H&M controversy could be a good example of what happens when you do not have enough
We live and work in a diverse world, consists of people with divergent backgrounds with different needs and preferences. This multicultural world brings out the potential on improvement and efficient, but also comes with that are the challenges. Workforce diversity acknowledges the reality that people differ in many ways, visible or invisible, mainly age, gender, marital status, social status, disability, sexual orientation, religion, personality, ethnicity and culture (Kossek, Lobel & Brown, 2005). The culture of an organisation plays a big role in the performance and sustainability of an organisation, and it is also important to the well-being of its employees.
