It is an opportunity to create an environment where all individuals can contribute their unique perspectives and experiences to the collective knowledge. By embracing diversity, we are able to push past our preconceived notions and challenge the status quo. We can create a culture of understanding and respect for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or other differences. Inclusivity allows us to see beyond our own experiences and gain new insights from those who are different from us. This helps us become better problem solvers, innovators and collaborators in whatever field we choose to pursue. Becoming a Beckman Scholar, there is such a unique opportunity to use our platform to support a wide variety of causes and initiatives. By leveraging our networks and resources, we can make a lasting impact on our communities and the world at large. I am driven to use this scholarship to further my education and research in the field of biotechnology. With the help of this scholarship, I hope to develop innovative solutions that will have a positive impact on the
Summary Freeman Hrabowski talks about how to improve the shortcomings of university attendees, especially those who are minorities and majored in science and engineering. According to him, we must first set high expectations which will drive students. It is all about having a thorough understanding, and not just enough to barely make it through. He states that secondly, a community has to be built among students by working in groups in order to support, understand and trust one another, as well as helping each other succeed. Hrabowski then explains how it takes researchers to produce researchers meaning, we have to expose the upcoming generations to the many exciting fields available to keep the fields and their enthusiasm alive.
At the university, I see myself pioneering in new frontiers of research, through the Beckman Scholars Program, while involving myself in community outreach programs, as I have done locally in my city's Human Relations Commission, by playing an active role in the Woodlawn Children's Promise Community. Located in a vibrant city with a multitude of resources, the University of Chicago is the ideal gateway for me to continue making an impact in society and pursuing scientific research opportunities.

An important core value that any university should implement is diversity and inclusivity. Diversity and inclusivity is to support a diverse and also an inclusive environment where students are able to recognize and benefit from the life experiences and perspectives of their peers, faculty, and staff. The University of La Verne asserts that: “The university supports a diverse and inclusive environment where students recognize and benefit from the life experiences and viewpoints of other students, faculty, and staff.” (The university supports a diverse and inclusive environment where students recognize and benefit from the life experiences and viewpoints of other students, faculty, and staff. ”(University of La Verne [ULV], 2020, para.
Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.
For instance, diversity can have benefits in the topic of work. According to Forbes, diversity in the workplace is, “crucial for creativity and social justice,” and, “companies with a diverse workforce are 35% more likely to experience greater financial returns than their respective non-diverse counterparts.” What this illustrates is that diversity can bring about benefits not only for the employees and owner, but also for the customer/whoever the work is being done for. The 35% boost in revenue will help workers be paid more as well as make the company more stable, and the extra uniqueness in the product due to the diversity in employees may improve the quality of the product for the consumers. Furthermore diversity can help resolve and prevent altercations in our social life and even politics.
It is critical to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunity in this country. Achieving social equity in the workplace is also one of the HRM’s primary goals (Klinger et al., 2010). There are a few strategies that are utilized to accomplish social equity in the current society such as the
Chloe Carter March 25, 2023 Diversity, equity, and inclusion did not become an important part of my life until I became a college student. I grew up in a predominantly white town, in a school with few attempts to build a community that surrounded all races, genders, religion, and socioeconomic status. I did not know of many people that did not have a similar background as me. I was never asked questions about what diversity means to me, even in job interviews or the classroom. Additionally, I was not trained on how I would handle a situation that deals with insensitive remarks, such as sexism, racism, or even homophobia.
In the African American community, it is instilled at a young age, that we are a different breed and have to work ten times harder for the things we want out of life. Being an African American subjects us to racial profiling and various negative aspects that come along with the territory. The most important aspect of this workplace discrimination is preferential treatment, meaning that a job or employment position is given to someone who is of the right race, ethnicity, or gender. “For African Americans, hard work, experience, intelligence and other factors don’t automatically translate into success. The Black Factor prevents many African Americans from becoming mid-level managers, executives or even entrepreneurs.
Education systems do not reflect the concept of “imaginary cosmopolitanism,” due to the fact that people within specific social groups listen solely to themselves as opposed to becoming radial listeners to the issues that create social injustice and racial inequality. All people need to engage in universal conversation by advocating social change against the oppression of racial groups in America. Bethany Johnson-Javois mentioned in her lecture that “a lack of communication and collaboration are the reason why people are being silenced and progress is being impeded towards safety in this country” (Javois 2017). She mentioned that the field of academia has played the most important role in bridging the gap towards improving racial equality.
To align the interests of society with corporate behavior, has been an ongoing issue in the context of diversity for many years. A first step in this direction would be to follow the MOSAIC framework that Kandola and Fullerton laid out. Once organizations learn to have a better understanding of an individual and move beyond plain tolerance, they will be able to celebrate the high level of diversity contained within each individual as well as work in a happier and more open-minded environment, advantaging all. Kirton and Greene’s claim still may spark debate but in an ideal world, the term managing diversity is more than they claim with utility and justice both being of equally major
