Computer Science Purpose Statement

As a child I always desired to study math and science. There is just something about solving problems, and finding solutions that catches my attention. Learning about the world, and how it function is very interesting to me. These subjects have help keep me wondering what I could learn next, and the reason being that I am a scholar in my classes. One accomplishment that I am proud of is being on the A&B honor roll.

While still in high school, my favorite subjects were always creative or hands on. My favorite class was ceramics. I enjoyed it because it gave me an opprutunity to do something thoughtful,

My plan is to attend a four year university full time at University of Washington Bothell and major in computer science field because I am passionate about working with technology, and I want to understand how we can continue to draw knowledge from it. In addition, I plan to attend graduate school while working in the computer science field after I finished with my undergraduate school. I want to be able to give back to the society for all the resources it provided me to reach this point in my education and continue working toward fulfilling my life goals. The Intro to Computer Science class at Roosevelt is helping me understand what it takes to be a computer science major student. One thing I learned from the class is that success comes from patience and effort.

Growing up, the world of mathematics and science has always intrigued me. I have always preferred to calculate definite integrals rather than talk about the Gilded Age, and I will choose to read about NASA’s latest discoveries over Shakespearean sonnets any day of the week. I felt I could delve into the concepts of Calculus and Newtonian Physics more easily than Carnegie’s Gospel of Wealth and Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter. I would like to develop my knowledge within a Dental Practice as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist. I am learning theory, algorithms, and optimization of runtimes in the Program in Algorithmic and Combinatorial Thinking at Princeton University. I believe as we continue to move more in digital world, we will continue to grapple with issues such as handling larger and larger databases, querying and analyzing data in the most efficient ways and cybersecurity of these databases etc.

I have chosen astronomy. I chose this career because I have always been interested in the stars and planets. There are many things that appeal to me about this career such as the way the stars look at night and how colorful nebulas are. I have always been really fascinated with space and when i went to NASA i got to see a lot of different things about space, stars, and nebulas. You should have the ability to solve complex problems, conduct research and accurately analyze data.

Also I believe that this school has also helped me to know what path to go on in my journey of becoming an engineer. My interest in the Computer Science major at Carnegie Mellon was first piqued while I was in the Microsoft Student Partners Program, where I met a Technical Evangelist from Microsoft who graduated from the course. I had heard from him how the nation’s best graduates of Computer Science were often recruited from Carnegie Mellon. Naturally, this keen interest sparked off by my encounter with him did not just stop there as I am now sitting at my desk writing my CMU supplementary essays.
