Catfish on TV: 'It's an uplifting show about self-love' say creators The source I am working with is the Guardian newspaper. (http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2013/aug/30/catfish-tv-show). I choose this article as it was of particular interest to me and I felt as though it clearly dealt with some class themes such as theoretical perspectives of online relationships. People often act in less sociably acceptable ways online and it can be hard to express true emotions and feelings. One can question how someone could fall in love with someone that he or she had never met. However, the hyperpersonal perspective describes how some people find it easier to communicate behind a computer. This may be due to issues such as a lack of confidence or sense of not belonging in the society in which they live in. These people are more inclined to be catfishers online as they develop another character usually in their mind a person that they long to be. Essentially they are longing to be loved and in some incidents they are willing to go to all lengths in order to achieve

In a recent article "Turn Off Messenger Kids, Health Experts Plead to Facebook", from New York Times the author, Cecilia Kang, discusses the concerns of pediatric and mental health experts in response to Facebook's new creation. Facebook has created a new application for the younger generation called "Messenger Kids". In the app, children have the ability to take selfies, group text, and even video chat. As Kang discusses the concerns of health experts, she remains unbiased and tells Facebook's response to the allegations of their app being harmful to the younger generation. The article, "Turn Off Messenger Kids, Health Experts Plead to Facebook" is somewhat rhetorically effective because the author includes detailed information from credible

Always On In this chapter Sherry Turkle discusses how new technologies have shaped the manner in which we interact with other individuals. Relationships have changed. In this new technological era, where one can remain online all time through various devices, Turkle wonders if being “on” effects the way we perceive others. Since our time is spent looking at screens, we are absent from what is happening in the real world. Dating is part of the creation of the competitive invention as it has found a way to find love without leaving the comfort of our own homes. It has helped find love easier by simply putting in our picture, describe ourselves and hopefully find a match. However, how do we know our match is really the person we are talking to? Catfishing is a very common crime in the digital world as people tend to create a persona behind their phones to convince an individual as something or someone they are not. One of the cases of catfishing would be 19-year-old Zach Anderson who met a 14-year-old girl that claimed herself as 17 on the dating site.

Online “catfishing” is someone who pretends to be someone that are not by using social media to create a false identity to deceive other into a sense of romance. Nev will setup meetings with the individual and the show revolves around the uncivil discourse that ensure.
When we are in front of someone, we are more afraid of what they will think than if we are behind a screen. You can speak out to others when you want to, if you want to. You can join new people and get to know others. You can talk to friends and family with technology, even when you cannot see them, or are not with

Social media’s effectiveness on our ability to interact and communicate is visible throughout all areas of our society, so what does this mean for interpersonal communication? There has been an alternation in the means we communicate; rather than the face-to-face interaction, we’re more inclined toward the mediated communication. We’d rather Skype than meet; we’d rather text than talk on the phone. Individuals are becoming more social and interactive with others, but the procedure of that communication has changed so that we’re not meeting face-to-face as often as we used to.
