African catfish is scientifically known as Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) as shown in figure 1.1, while the local name is Keli Afrika. It can develop huge with a greatest length at 170 cm (IGFA, 2001) and weight of 60 kg (Robbins et al., 1991). C. gariepinus have smoothed body without any scales. The shading fluctuates dorsally from dim to light chestnut and is frequently mottled with shades of olive and dark while the underside is a pale cream to white (Skelton, 2001).
From a biological perspective, C. gariepinus is verifiably the ideal aquaculture freshwater species in the world. It is widely distributed throughout Africa (Bruton et al., 1999). They are hardy and are able to thrive in harsh environmental conditions in muddy, turbid and oxygen depleted water bodies with the help of their accessory air-breathing organ (labyrinth organ) that allows them to breathe atmospheric oxygen (Hecht et al., 1988, Van der Waal, 1998).
C. gariepinus is one of the species among few and large freshwater species known as migratory fish species. C. gariepinus can be found in lakes and their affluent rivers and in wetlands. C. gariepinus occur mainly in quiet waters within lakes and ponds and prefer rather shallow and swampy areas with a soft muddy substrate and calmer water (Adewolu et al., 2008).
C. gariepinus are a critical

High growth rates may also impose costs, including adverse effects on future development, growth, reproduction and swimming performance. Accelerated growth in response to previous food restriction provides evidence that growth rates are regulated. It suggests that fishes can ‘evaluate’ their achieved growth trajectory and adjust growth rates to buffer deviations from an ‘ideal’ trajectory (Broekhuizen et al., 1994). The expression of this growth regulation is dependent on several factors (Wilson and Osbourn, 1960; Ryan,
Motif: an image or idea that occurs many times in a work of literature. The motif in the short story, “What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish?,” is wishing. In the short story, the motif of wishing applies to the characters, Yoni, Sergei, and the goldfish, based on each of their lives, and they’re similar and different from each other in the sense that the wishes are all for themselves and are wished under different circumstances. To begin with, the motif of wishing applies to Yoni, Sergei, and the goldfish based on their lives.
Hamilton Howard “Albert” Fish was born in Washington D.C. on May 19, 1870. His mother and father were Ellen and Randall Fish. Fish’s family had an extensive history of mental illnesses, making him possibly prone to different disorders. Several of his family members were diagnosed with different mental disorders. His uncle suffered from religious mania, his brother was placed in a state mental hospital, and his sister was diagnosed with a mental affliction.
1. Introduction: This report will mainly focus on some adaptation features creatures which live in the lake and wetland freshwater habitat have. 2.
“Kept in a bowl, the goldfish will remain small. With more space, the fish can grow double, triple, or quadruple its size.” This phrase inspired Edward Bloom (Big Fish) to leave his hometown to explore the big city. While goldfish size depends on water quality and availability of food, goldfish are indeterminate growers, meaning they do not stop growing until they die. While I have stopped growing physically, my desire to learn never will.
Materials and Methods: To gather the needed data on the crayfish, samples were collected at Pearson’s Creek, a little outside Springfield. The spring was right off the road and located directly next to a little over pass. Sampling occurred early morning 0830-0930 on a cloudy day. The weather was a typical mild late summer morning with a rain shower that had passed through the evening before. Two sampling areas that were 10-meters long and the width of the stream were marked off using flags and sticking them in the rocks of the shallow area of the creek.
If fishing with a worm, try inflating the worm with air using a syringe (there are special worm syringes for this that you can buy). By doing this you can float the worm off the bottom and hopefully right in the fishes' faces. If you just fish a worm on the bottom without doing this they are harder for the fish to see and they can crawl under things and hide. If fishing with live crayfish, try pinching one claw off.
Blackfish (2013) is an American documentary film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and produced by Manuel V. Oteyza. The documentary primarily concerns the controversy of captured Killer Whales at the theme park Sea World, primarily that of Tilikum, an Orca responsible for the deaths of 2010 SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau and two other individuals. The documentary begins with this incident but goes as far back to the 1970 's show the audience how young Orcas are captured in the wild and taken from their families and natural environments. Since its release at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Blackfish has achieved both critical acclaim and caused controversy regarding SeaWorld 's treatment of its animals as well as retaliation from SeaWorld as to the legitimacy of the film 's claims.
Imagine that you discovered a fish that would allow you to receive three wishes, with the ability to wish for anything, what would you use it for? In the two stories, What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish by Etgar Keret and The Fisherman and His Wife by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the two antagonist use their wishes in a selfish and greedy way. However greedy, both stories also have different meanings behind the greediness. In both text, the three wishes are used in the same manner, but for different outcomes.
In the Spring the Walleye start to gain weight and during summer months there is a decline in J/g/day of growth that doesn’t increase again until the fall months. The severity of the decline in summer its impact on end of year weight depends on the increase in summer temperatures. The scope for growth for the Walleye has been studied by Kitchell et al. (1977) who found that around 23 °C Walleye’s energy towards growth begins to decline. Walleye are a cool water fish and temperatures can greatly affect growth.
Despite the high salinity levels, an estimated one hundred million fish thrive in the Sea, particularly the smaller, less salty pools of water scattered along the perimeter. Most of the population consists of resilient tilapia, with the remaining species such as sargo, orange mouth corvina, croaker, and the endangered desert pupfish. Barry Costa-Pierce, directory of the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium describes the diverse ecosystem as “’… the most productive body of water of its size in the world’” (Cohns 2000). The hundreds of thousands of piscivorous birds depend on the flourishing fish populations for their food.
The Cuvier 's gazelle 's scientific name is Gazelle Currier. They are sometimes called the Mountain gazelle and Edmi. The Cuvier 's gazelle lives in Africa. They like to live in open areas like savanna and semi-dessert grasslands.
Unfortunately, I did not like this piece. It was very confusing and I had to read it numerous time, in order to get a full understanding. I am currently reading Franny and Zooey, and I realize that Salinger’s favorite transitional word is “incidentally”. Salinger also, uses this word a lot in A Perfect Day for Bananafish.
The short story “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” by J.D Salinger is about Seymour Glass, who has come back from World War II, and tries to associate with people in society. Still, he finds that interacting with a young child is easier as she is the only person that go along well due to mental illness from the war. So, Seymour makes a conversation with Sybil, an innocent young girl that knows nothing about the war. In the passage, J.D Salinger uses a symbolism of bananafish to indicate how Seymour expresses his pain of Post-Traumatic disease by stating himself the bananafish to Sybil and the author uses Seymour’s abnormal action towards Sybil to represent how Seymour’s loss of innocence from war affects his ability to associate. The author’s
Information and communication technology has seen lot of changes and advancements since the year 2000, key among them being the development of social media as a social influencer. It has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. We are all aware that social media has had a tremendous impact on our culture, in business, on the world-at-large and social media websites are some of the most popular haunts on the internet. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. Are we as society becoming more concerned with Facebook “friends” than we are with the people we interact with face-to-face in our daily lives?
Ecology and behaviour The southern right whale (Eubalaena australis) is a medium to large baleen whale, reaching a maximum length of 17.5m. Colour patterning is variable, ranging from black to grey-brown (Harcourt et al. 2012). Distinguishing features include a rotund body with no dorsal fin and callosities (caused by colonised cyamids, small crustaceans, on keratinised skin patches) on the head (Harcourt et al. 2012). Each individual has a unique callosity pattern that occurs a few months after birth and can be used to identify individuals in research studies. The southern right whale gives birth approximately every three years.
