At the time, individual back-to-school events were providing supplies for students every year but the lack of resources and planning were creating difficulties for the organizers. Noticing this fact, a catholic charity worker came up with the idea to pull together all the resources each individual organizers had and buy supplies in bulk to increase efficiency. With the belief that education is the key solution to ending the poverty cycle, the organizers eventually opened their first event to the public in 2005. The event is privately funded by sponsorship, grants from foundations and private donations. It is also entirely run by volunteers and has served 100,000 students since the first event. According to United States Census Bureau, 15.2 percent of Tarrant County residents live under the poverty line. This 15.2 percent means that approximately 80,000 out of 500,000 people who are under 18 years old in Tarrant County could use the services Back to School Roundup

The anniversary souvenir will be a commemorative purple ink pen with butterfly logo and R-E-A-D encrusted in white along with Brenda Johnson's chocolate butterflies. Another community connection will be with the Union Mission, feeding the homeless

Boxes upon boxes of food are everywhere. It is time to carry out operation Sack Pack Program at West Sioux High School. Four adults and ten students prepare to form an assembly line to make 350 sack packs for students in need, from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These students in need could go hungry over the weekend if it was not for these sack packs, which provide nutritious, healthy food. I had the privilege of speaking to one of the sack pack program directors.
For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.
In addition to the fair, our facility also provides utilization of the grounds for community functions on a year round basis. Some examples are the annual Fireworks Show, Run for the Wall, food drive during the fair (3,500 pounds of can goods collected), use of the parking lot for school bus driver training, use of the kitchen for our local 4-H groups to hold their annual BBQ fundraisers, Blue Grass Festival, FFA Awards Dinner, wedding receptions, the Palo Verde High School Homecoming dinner and the High School Prom. In the past six years the fair management has worked hard to raise money by applying for grants and establishing a nonprofit 501 (C)(3) foundation.
Representing the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia, Nya Scott, is the current reigning Miss WV High School. Nya’s platform, Get Into Volunteering Eagerly or GIVE, allows her to relentlessly serve her community in many ways. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, marching with area representatives to encourage peace and justice on Martin Luther King day, volunteering as a buddy at "A Night to Shine", a prom for individuals with special needs, or raising awareness for BRAVE (Building Respect And Values for Everyone), the national platform of Miss High School America, Nya is ready and willing to help with a bright smile. While she is currently a sophomore at Waynesboro High School, she has earned enough credits, maintains excellent grades,
Monday October 26th: Today at Moses Cone hospital, I was in the role of student nurse. I had two patients; one a returning patient, and the other a new patient. The nurse I was working with is someone I have never worked with before or even seen on the floor, but she seemed to be familiar with the unit. It was about 3-5-45 minutes into the shift before we received hand off report. After about 8 minutes of waiting to get report on the rest of her patients, my nurse went ahead and started to see patients.
It can also give ideas of what topic to do a drive on. I have also contributed to the NAACP Youth Group which did a drive for school supplies. If admitted into NJHS, I could maybe take inspiration from this, and we can do something for kids without enough school
After countless hours of baking, my group and I were able to raise $1250 which we used to purchase basketball hoops, plates, beds, silverware, cups, schooling for the children, and uniforms. Although we were not able to directly deliver these goods to the family ourselves, we were able to see pictures that were equally rewarding. Their faces and gratitude made the many nights of little sleep well worth
Education inequality in America Currently in today’s era we are living in a time where education inequality is at a high more than ever, where depending on where you live, how much money you have, what race you are, and even sometimes what sex you are, is how much you would learn, many people in the Ghettos of NewYork, don’t get the same as someone who would live the the nice, more wealthier parts. In the Ghettos, any type of teachers who does not know what they are doing are thrown in there, while teachers are carefully hand selected to teach in the much more wealthier places. This is a issue, because in the Declaration Of Independence, where it states; that all men are created equal, is not being fulfilled, like it needs
Santa Cruz has proven to be a good place for Field Trip fodder, even though I mainly came to visit my friend and long-time S Cruz resident, Autumn. I arrived here Thursday morning, and decided to search the web for good happenings about town. First, I discovered the Homeless Garden Project. The Project was founded in 1990 with the aim of helping people who are homeless or formerly homeless transition into stable housing and work. The Project serves as a liaison to many systems of help, as well as providing several job training programs.
Court Case Citation Everson v. Board of Education Argued November 20, 1946 Decided February 10, 1947 Supreme Court 5-4 FACTS A New Jersey law allowed parents of students to collect reimbursements of money for students who used public transportation. Children who attended private religious schools also qualified for this reimbursement.
I was the Student Director of the Teen Advisory Council, which serves as the youth executive board for the Ronald House. Throughout the entire year we planned a bowling fundraiser called, Spare Some Love. At this event we bring together families staying at the house with individuals within the community. Through gaining sponsors and raffling off donated baskets we were able to raise $28,000 for the house. I take special pride in this event because it combines multiple aspects of giving back.
One of the essential features of PTA Standard 1 states that, when welcoming all families into the school community, an excelling quality of implementation includes a “school volunteer program (that) reaches out to parents of all neighborhoods and backgrounds, identifies their unique experiences and skills, and offers varied volunteer opportunities.” Our school-wide events consistently seek to involve parent volunteers, and utilize their individual talents and interests. We have frequent theme days where parent volunteers do everything from put on workshops for our students, build haunted houses, teach children about their careers, cook healthy food, run lights and sound at an assembly, and even run weekly fitness and art classes. Our PTA members reach out to all of our school families to encourage them to reveal their interests and talents, and find ways to incorporate them into our theme days.
