Beat Auburn Beat Hunger was founded in 1994 by Henry Lipsy, director of West Alabama Food Bank. Lipsy came up with the idea of a friendly competition between the University of Alabama and Auburn to raise canned food for the hungry and needy in the state of Alabama (BeatAuburnBeatHunger.edu ). The organization helps feed over 100,000 people at the food bank during the holiday season. With all the donations from BABH, the West Alabama Food Bank is sustained for four to five months (Charland).
Students and faculty have the ability to help out the organization by donating cans for the drive. Red bins will be set out all over campus, in the Ferg, and in the lecture halls, to drop off canned goods. “Anything you can put in your pantry,” Charland said cheerfully when I asked what type of donations BABH was looking for. Besides donating food, students can get involved with the many events lined up for this fall season. October 3 begins the Big Kick Off Event at the Ferg from 11-3 (Division of Student Affairs Beat Auburn Beat Hunger). Students are encouraged to come out and learn more about the organization. Free snacks and beverages will be provided. October 13 from 5-8 is the Chick Fil A Booster Event (Division of Student Affairs Beat Auburn Beat Hunger). All proceeds will go towards BABH. When I asked Charland what she was most excited for this year her eyes grew wide with excitement. Beat Auburn Beat Hunger is partnering with the Athletic Department this year. The organization is making a BABH video that will be shown before every athletic event starting in October (Charland). “It’s a great way to get the word out about what are we are trying to do,” (Charland). Boxes upon boxes of food are everywhere. It is time to carry out operation Sack Pack Program at West Sioux High School. Four adults and ten students prepare to form an assembly line to make 350 sack packs for students in need, from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These students in need could go hungry over the weekend if it was not for these sack packs, which provide nutritious, healthy food. I had the privilege of speaking to one of the sack pack program directors.
Dill Driscoll has made a huge impact on many lives with bringing Manna Drop to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Manna Drop is where faculty and students give food to families on Thanksgiving that lack money to buy it themselves. Some families are not eligible for government assistance and depend on Feeding America and Manna Drop to supply them with food. Manna Drop is a great way to teach students to give back to the community and to get out of their comfort zone. Students have stated that “It is the most meaningful thing they have done at ABAC.”

Measuring the outcomes of No Hunger Food Pantry is fundamental in evaluating our success. An evolution of our services allows us to determine our impact on the client, which is critical to our funding and sustainability. In order to create a governance structure of accountability, the board provides financial oversight with an annual audit committee. We created a client survey to formulate a consumer profile and assess their satisfaction with our services.

The Food Pantry Project is a place where people can donate non-perishable foods and personal care items. These items would then help students in need from the University of Colorado Denver. In order for students to receive the help from the University, they have to present a valid CU Denver Student identification. You can only take a limited amount of items because of the number of students the University has. My classmates and I thought of five different ways to help the Food Pantry Project be able to give more food to students.
