Atticus Finch is a well loved character in American literature, known for his moral compass and passionate dedication to justice. As the main protagonist of Harper Lee’s award-winning novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Atticus is a symbol of hope in a world plagued by racial prejudice and injustice.
Atticus is a well renowned lawyer and single father of two children, Their names are Jem Finch, and Scout Finch. Atticus is an outstanding father to his son and daughter. Scout and Jem. He is patient, kind, and honest with his children. He treats them with high amounts of respect and teaches them both how to be independent thinkers and problem solvers. He teaches them important life lessons such as importance and empathy and needing to stand up

Atticus is a source of stability and comfort for his two children, especially during the most difficult times in their life. He is always there for them offering guidance and support at all times.
He is a man of high intelligence and wisdom, he is a man of major integrity, and he is willing to stand up for what he believes is right, even when that opinion is unpopular to the common crowd.
Atticus is a man of great courage, he will fight for what he thinks is right no matter the risk, this is represented in a quote stating “You never really really understand a person until you see his point of view”. He is a man of tremendous passion, and he is able to see the good in people even when they are not at their best as he does with his client Tom Robinson. He is a man of humility and he will admit when he is wrong.

Atticus became not only a role model for Scout and Jem but a role model for the whole town. He taught you not to be so quick to judge everything. From Boo Radley to Walter Cunningham, he shows how to accept people for who they are and to get know them before you judge them. “Because that is they only way he can pay me, he has no money” (Lee 21). When Scout saw the Cunninghams paying in different things like Hickory nuts and Stovewood, she was quick to question the payment.

For example, “We don’t know, but there is some circumstantial evidence to indicate that Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left….he swore out a warrant, no doubt signing it with his left hand, and Tom Robinson now sits before you, having taken the oath with the only good hand he possesses- his right hand.” (Lee, 232-233.) This quote shows us a good representation of how Atticus demonstrates the qualities of someone described as a hero. He put aside his safety and that of his family to win the case.

He raised his children, Jean Louise Finch (Scout) and Jeremy Atticus Finch (Jem) alone as his wife passed away when Scout was little.
