It’s an ordinary day, much unlike any other, as Mary arrives at her dental office, a few minutes early, so she can indulge in her guilty pleasure, this week’s PEOPLE magazine. As she grazes the articles, her dental hygienist, Darci, appears in the reception area and escorts Mary into the hygiene room. Mary hangs up her jacket and purse, and sits down in the dental chair where Darci drapes a bib around her neck. Darci: Nice to see you Mary, are there any changes in your health? Any new medications? Have you had any surgeries or been to the hospital since your last dental appointment? Mary: No new MEDS, and I haven’t had any surgeries. Darci: Okay, that’s good to hear. Now before we start, are you having any discomfort in your mouth? Mary: No everything seems fine. I’m still using my Sonicare twice a day and continuing to floss every night. Darci: Good for you. Okay I’m going to tip the chair back and take a cursory look in your mouth before we start. The hygienist puts on her gloves and mask, switches on a light that is secured to her dental Loupes and picks up a mouth mirror, as well as a probe, and begins surveying Mary’s mouth. She finds that Mary’s tissue isn’t as pink as usual, and more inflammation is present. She starts to measure around some of the teeth for inflammation and/or bone loss. Upon some isolated probing, Mary’s gums are bleeding spontaneously and there seems to be more plaque developing on the inside of her front teeth. Darci

Dear diary, today was a shiny and beautiful day, but a strange thing happened when my teeth started to fall and my jaw developed a painful abscess after two years of working in the Radium factory. When I worked in a Radium factory, where we paint dials of clocks and watches by paintbrushes that eventually, lose their shape, and so our manager asked us to paint with our lips. Unfortunately, no one knew the dangerous of Radium except the owner of the U.S. Corporation and also scientists who were familiar with effects of Radium. I was so worried so I went to the doctor, he said that my problem was caused by a former occupation.
The career field that I have chosen to go into is the medical field. In the medical field I would like to become a dental hygienist. The background that I have on dental hygienist is that you exam gums, clean teeth, and teach about oral care. The research that I have already done on this profession is a dental hygienist annual salary and required hour of work. Some more research I utilized is how many years of college are needed, what you do while at work, and if you work by yourself or who you work with.

Enamel of teeth have the highest percentage (95%) of mineral content in the body (Gwinnett, 1992). This allows the teeth to resist decomposition after the death of the individual, highly preserving the structure and hence the information of the individual. Furthermore, calculus around the teeth also proves to be an important reservoir of information.

The sound of my shaking legs pounding in harmony with my racing heart quickly overshadowed the soothing jazz radiating throughout the dentist office. As my back reclined uncomfortably in the chair, the glaring light illuminated the nervous sweat sweeping across my face. My anxiety amplified as my eyes fluttered around the room to see shiny tools and surgical masks peering down at me. My teeth were securely locked together under my sealed lips as constant laughter and awkward stares replayed in my mind. Unlike most people, my smile was pamphlet perfect if the gaping holes beside my front teeth were photoshopped out of the picture.
“I sat up, turned away from him, pulled out my phone, and searched, ‘do bacteria of people you kiss stay inside your body’...” (Page 153) This is when she starts to do the unimaginable and because her anxiety disorder is so bad she starts to put hand sanitizer in her mouth in hopes of cleaning it.
