Imagine the whole world having perfect, clean shiny teeth. Imagine being the one to make this happen. This would not be able to occur if it weren’t for dental hygienists. Dental hygienists are the reason why people have the confidence to smile. Dental hygiene is a great career choice for anyone willing to help people’s physical appearance and health. Being a dental hygienist is a gratifying career choice because they perform varied work activities, earn advancement opportunities, and have job stability. The work activities dental hygienists do throughout the day definitely keep them busy. For example, they use small hand tools and machines such as dental lasers, probes, scalers, dental x-ray units, and teeth cleaning devices (“Occupation Profile”). Using varied tools keep dental hygienists occupied. The tools treat dental problems, examine mouths, teeth, or gums, and process x-rays. While working as a dental hygienist it is possible to take classes on the side to get a higher degree (“Dental Hygienist: Occupational”). To become a hygienist an associate's degree is required, but some people go to school and go a little further getting a bachelor’s degree. Dental hygienists can apply their skills and knowledge and advance to teaching hygiene students who are in school to become a dental hygienist (“Dental Hygienist”). The pay will be much better teaching students the fundamentals to become a hygienist. To receive a full-time hygienist job there will be a lot of competition, so usually hygienists will work part-time (“Dental Hygienists: Occupational”). Most people want a full-time job because the pay is better. After working at an office for a certain amount of time it is possible to get switched from part-time to full-time after showing reliability.
