Introduction: Students with disabilities are overrepresented in bullying statistics compared to students in general education without disabilities. This article attempts to spark conversation and create a narrative about why disabled students are more likely to perpetrate or be a victim of bullying than their peers. It presents various studies in order to assess what characteristics could account for these statistics. Abstract and Overview: Studies show that students in special education programs report greater rates of bullying perpetration and victimization than those in general education without disabilities. This article aimed to determine possible predictors for the involvement of these students in bullying. The goal of the work was to open discussion about methods to be used in lessening the likelihood of this involvement by creating caring and supportive schools free from bullying and cruel behavior. In order to accomplish this the authors of this article discussed several studies which demonstrate that while having a disability increases the risk of bullying, rates vary by disability type and context. The article asserts that physical attributes, personal characteristics, and school-related factors all serve as …show more content…
While reading this article, it was easy to discern the authors’ desire to enact a change in school systems so that the inclusion of disabled students can be met without bullying. The authors did an outstanding job of using the existing research on bullying and students with disabilities to initiate this goal. However, the authors not only supplied relevant and valuable studies and statistics, but they emphasized the importance of additional studies and research in order to fully understand the impact of these statistics and the modifications
http://doi.org/10.1007/s11113-014-9329-6 The main purpose of this article was to determine if there was a discrepancy between gays and lesbians raising a child and a man and women raising a child. The key question of this article was, does the wellbeing of a child in a same-sex marriage differ from that of a different-sex marriage? This article was an analysis of the findings and critiques of literature on child wellbeing and same sex parents. Also analyzed were over forty studies on the controversial topic.
A study done by authors, Faye Mishna, Marion Bogo, and Jami-Leigh Sawyer, examines student interns and undergraduate student clients who utilized cyber counseling. They were asked to discuss the benefits and challenges that emerged from cyber counseling. The authors stated that the cyber world provides young people with unprecedented opportunities for communication with others both in and out of their existing face-to-face social networks (Mishna, Marion, and Sawyer, 2015). Research has shown that online therapies are more effective and satisfying than face-to-face therapy. Cyber counseling offers greater accessibility and flexibility.
In this article, Ferriter (2009) reveals many benefits from the use of technology in the classroom with our 21st-century learners. The resources and suggestions mentioned throughout this reading will assist teachers in ways to avoid problems and becoming engaging instructors by using technology in innovative ways. What I found was so innovative by this approach was by creating a network of innovative co-learners where collaboration takes place regularly, Ferriter (2009), is able to experiment with digital connections without ever meeting other teachers in person. Not only is this beneficial for students and teachers all over the world, but also simple. What I found was unique and useful was the worldwide collaboration that helps teachers explore skills and dispositions that assisted with the network cooperation by creating shared content.
Just because our students may not be able to think as complexly as others, it does give others a reason to bully them. Especially in this generation, it is important for us and the adults who look after these special children, as students who are heavily influenced by social media, may have an altered opinion/feeling about our students. Not only are all students equal, but every kid should be treated with the up-most respect, and
Introduction As indicated by Leach and Helf (2016), a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) describes a cohesive, tiered system of education that utilizes results-focused, problem-solving procedures that integrate standards-based instruction, behavioural teaching, intervention, acceleration, and extension. This system of integrated instruction and intervention is delivered to students at three levels of intensities, based on each student’s needs. with tiers two and three individualized to specific identified student deficits. The three-tier intervention model comprises of Tier 1 which delivers high quality instruction to all students, Tier 2 which contains interventions for identified struggling students and Tier 3 individualized interventions for students who have failed to gain process in the lower tiers.
Higher education infrastructure and policies of a country represents a vital parameter to measure growth rate and capabilities to face challenges. Now market for higher education is global and universities and higher learning institutions are operating cross countries.. Standards and outputs are measure at international level based on various parameters. The outputs in terms of theses and dissertation are considered as an success indicator for academic/ research community of the country. Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
Bullying can also make a child with disabilities
Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
Bullying is a widespread problem in our schools and communities and has a negative impact on students’ right to learn in a safe and secure environment without fear. It is a process in which one person repeatedly uses his/her superior strength or influence to mistreat, attack or force another person to do something (Van der Werf, 2014). Bullying or peer victimization is now recognized as a complex and pervasive problem (Beran, 2009). It is an ongoing problem that is not restricted by age, race, gender or class. This behavior generally takes one of four forms, physical such as assault, verbal which involves threats or insults, social which entails exclusion or rumor spreading, and cyber which includes aggressive texts or social network posts
Bullying is defined as repeated oppression, physical or psychological of a less powerful individual by a more powerful individual, people or group. It consists of three main types of abuse which are physical, verbal and emotional. Bullying in schools is a common and worldwide spread problem that can have critical and negative implications on the general school climate as well as on the right of students to study in a safe and secure environment without fear. Many people believe that bullying is part of life, happens in all schools and so it’s not an issue to worry about and that it lets individuals know what life is all about as it toughens them but in reality bullying is a detrimental problem that affects most school going children and teenagers physically, emotionally and socially.
