He gained national fame after winning the Battle of New Orleans. Later on in his life Jackson earned the nickname "Old Hickory” because he was a good solider that possessed both good sense and toughness, but was also ruthless, killing soldiers that deserted their posts and he felt Indians where inferior people. He was a war hero I'm everyones eyes. When he went to run for president in 1824, he lost to John Quincy Adams, but won in 1828 and soon after the whole county could out he had a then-adulterous relationship with his wife Rachel. And this news was allover newspapers, say she was a shameless woman and how can someone like her be in the white house.

However, approximately six months after the war started, Jackson was finally commissioned as a general and was ordered to lead 1,500 troops to southern Natchez in order to protect New Orleans. Later, in March of 1813, there was no more threats to New Orleans so Jackson and his troops were dismissed by the War Department without any compensation. This outraged Jackson and his troops, because they couldn’t get back to Tennessee. Jackson marched with his troops, and earned the nickname “Old Hickory” on the way home. A year later, Jackson met an orphaned Indian boy at the Battle of Talladega.

In his tenure as the major general, he led American forces to various victories. He commanded the US forces in a five-month campaign against the Creek Indians and worn the war in 1812. During the war his brothers were killed, And he had some harrowing experiences including being captured by British soldiers and receiving a scar across his face from the sword of a British officer. When Jackson became president in 1829, he took full control of his reigns and his position of authority. He did not defer to congress, and tried to be a direct link of power to the people.

Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.

Andrew Jackson was born a poor lower class citizen but lived the American dream and became a wealthy high-class citizen. Jackson became part of the Continental Army at the age of 13, and when he was 43 he lead American soldiers in the battle of New Orleans against the British. In the Battle of New Orleans against the British, the Continental Army beat the British! That battle is what made Jackson a war hero and a politician. Jackson ran for presidency in 1824 but didn't get elected.
