Andrew Jackson was said to be one of the worst presidents in the United States. He made some bad choices during his presidential years, which lead to him being capitalized as a monarch or a king. With the United States’ history with kings that was not a good thing. Jackson was very stubborn and strong willed, he didn’t take no for an answer. Being strong willed is normally a good thing in certain situations, but in Jacksons situation it was not.

Andrew Jackson vetoed the bill re-chartering the Second Bank in July 1832 by arguing that in the form presented to him it was incompatible with “justice,” “sound policy” and the Constitution. The bank’s charter was unfair, Jackson argued in his veto message, because it gave the bank considerable, almost monopolistic, market power, specifically in the markets that moved financial resources around the country and into and out of other nations. That market power increased the bank’s profits and thus its stock price, “which operated as a gratuity of many millions [of dollars] to the stockholders,” who, Jackson claimed, were mostly “foreigners” and “our own opulent citizens.” He then suggested that it would be fairer to most Americans to create a wholly government-owned bank instead, or at least to auction the Second Bank of the US’s monopoly privileges to the highest bidder.
The reason that Jackson’s background and personality were so appealing to Americans in the 1820’s was that it was something that no one had ever heard of before. The story of how Jackson’s parents were Scott-Irish immigrants who came to America with children to have a new life appeals to the vast majority of immigrants in America. The unexpected death of Jackson’s father and then when his older brother Hugh dies of heat exposure and fatigue appeals to the vast majority of Americans who despised the British. Likewise when Jackson and his second oldest brother Robert were taken as prisoners of war by the British and when they were being taken to the British prison camp both Andrew and Robert would contract smallpox, of which Robert would die
And then Robert and Andrew Jackson were captured. During their captivity, the brothers both contracted smallpox. After they were both released, Andrew recovered, his brother Robert did not. Not long after that, their mother passed away. This left 14 year old Andrew Jackson an orphan.
During his mother’s last breath, she told Jackson to “help people like me”. She also told him to “not follow my footsteps”. After Jackson 's grief, he
James C. Curtis’ “Andrew Jackson and the Search for Vindication” was actually a well thought out and interesting book. Curtis obviously does his research, and the story is very detailed. It is very easy to get lost in the story. Although some parts were really boring and some sentences were run on sentences, but for the most part it was a good story. Curtis wanted the readers of this book to have the whole perspective of Jackson’s life, and where he comes from.

While reading the book, Andrew Jackson, it shows different sides of him. I believe the author wrote this book for a great reason, which was to explain Andrews Jacksons struggles and courageous movements. I believe during Andrew Jacksons younger years that he had a troubled childhood which explained his outrageous behavior he had at times. I also believe Andrew Jackson was hard headed during his more mature years and people either liked him or they did not like him at all. Although Andrew Jackson had a troubled childhood the author makes it very clear that, he made something out of his life by becoming president, by being the leader of battles, and the Indian Removal Act.
With the end of John Quincy Adams’ presidency came the end of the Virginia Dynasty of Presidents (meaning that all the previous presidents were originally from the state of Virginia). When the presidential election of 1830 had come around it seemed that another president would come about, but a man of the common man had come who would expand the United States and its borders beyond what they already were. This man was Mr. Andrew Jackson, the hero of the battle at New Orleans during the War of 1812. When Jackson had assumed the presidency he was faced with a momentous challenge. That being the United States was in current need of more land...
Is Andrew Jackson a hero or a villain? Throughout history Jackson has been viewed as both. Some see him as a war hero and the people’s president. Others see him as a racist and a political tyrant. To me, Andrew Jackson is more of a hero.
Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.
Andrew Jackson and the Search for Vindication is a biography written by James C. Curtis. James C. Curtis traveled to Tennessee and worked with the Tennessee state Library and the Andrew Jackson Papers Project to locate unpublished correspondence of Jackson’s. Curtis went to great lengths in his research to try and be as accurate as possible when writing this book. The book covers Jackson’s childhood, in small detail, his military life and presidency. What James Curtis, like other authors, was trying to accomplish was to interpret Andrew Jackson's life and career in a new light.
Later in his life, he went to college but is soon flunked out of college. Jackson also has many wives and children, but he is not able to take up the responsibilities. Under such tragic trajectory, Jackson can only
