Being in the military is not the easiest of jobs. Some describe it as a job and others say it is a service to country. People join the military out of family obligation, some join to travel the world and others join for health and educational benefits. All the reasons given all sum up to one thing, and that is to defend this great nation from its enemies, and fight for justice and freedom. Being in the military means enduring stress which we all know is not a subject to be taken likely.
Stress can be anything that changes in the human body. It wears one down mentally, emotionally and physically. Mental stress could be not being able to focus at work or at school because of lack of school or overwhelmed with too much workload. Emotional stress can emanate from

The military is always in demand for missions to be accomplished which could range from intercepting a nuclear weapon that is about to strike the country or possibly the entire world, or supporting allies for a positive global cause. Service members in the military work around the clock, and are not paid by the hour. If an average service member’s pay were to be calculated according to the hours spent on a job or a mission, there will be a 90% chance that that service member is being paid below the federal minimum wage (Wage and Hour Division, n.d.). Although leave time is earned (30 days a year), there is always a chance that a service member will be called back from his or her splendid family vacation, because as a service member he or she is supposed to be available for duty at any time of the day (off days are a privilege). For this reason servicemembers feel burnt out mentally and physically. They lose focus, and become complacent or for some discontented as there are constant repetitions with the job. Servicemembers who become discontented need challenges, but when there is none they become bored and idle resulting in a poor
Tenisha Pressley, Period 6 Brotherhood in the Battlefield What is more important in the line of duty than the bond between fellow soldiers? Brotherhood is one of the most necessary qualities amongst those who spend months, maybe even years, fighting for the safety of their country. Soldiers should feel safe going to combat knowing that their brothers are watching their back.
During World War I, soldiers were promised a ‘bonus payment’ to make up for wages lost while serving in the military- one dollar for each day served on U.S. soil and one dollar and twenty-five cents for every day served overseas. However, the Bonus would not be paid until 1945. Veterans initially agreed, based on the healthy state of the economy (Keaney 1). The Great Depression came and made thousands of veterans unemployed, like most Americans at the time. The veterans felt that their bonus should be paid early so that they could provide food and shelter for themselves and their families (Rank and File Committee 1).
Like many military men, they joined when they were still boys (fresh out of highschool). They did not think about the issues they might have for the rest of their lives. So when you are 18 years old; high on adventure, and you get asked if you want to jump out of airplanes, you are going to say “Hell yeah!”. This is called the Airborne Division, you are selected to be apart of this group. Little did you know that you would have knee complications for the rest of your life and that the VA; the department who is supposed to be there supporting you, will not pay for therapy or surgery.
For many, the military is a form of an escape. Whether it is financially, mentally, or emotionally, they want an escape from whatever it is they’re dealing with. For Eric Robbins, this was the case. He grew up with poor parents who were both struggling with addictions. He knew he wanted something better for his life, but he also knew there was no way he’d achieve that unless he joined the military.
Leaving the military may have been the best and worst decision I have made during my life. The financial stress that has come from not having a job is almost more than I can handle. Adjusting to this new non-institutionalized life is very different than what I have become used to. Not being told how to do this or that every day is one change I enjoy. One of the outcomes of leaving the military that I dislike is not having a paycheck every two weeks.
2 Critique of the Department of Defense Method for Setting and Raising Pay The Department of Defense (DoD) uses a complex system to set pay and grant pay raises for personnel in the military. This system takes into account a variety of factors, including rank, time in service, job specialty, duty location, and other factors. In this paper, I will provide an overview of the DoD's pay system, discuss the impact of the pandemic, economy, and political developments have on the pay scale, and make recommendations for improvements. A public service is a service which is provided by government to people living within its jurisdiction. Public services can be described as law enforcement, fire brigades, and a military. Access to these resources can be viewed as a fundamental human right as they all exist for the preservation of life and enforcement of a system of rules. As members of the United States Armed Forces we are obligated to support the interests of the United States and some/all of its citizens. With this responsibility comes a duty to public service.
According to National Institute of Health, stress is an internal state that people experience as they encounter changes throughout their lives. III. I have learned about the effects of stress due to my personal experience such as dealing with depression, weight gain, and being antisocial. IV. Today I will explain the physical, mental, and emotional effects of stress.
While the military maybe a riskier job there are great benefits for it.
Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I always had a dream of joining the military. Though it was a choice, I still did not have any inside information of what it would be like, and the requirements and specifics of the Army. It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army that all my concerns and questions were answered by a recruit; and I was guided through the whole process to enter and prep for the Army. If it was not for the confidences and motivation of my recruiter back in 2005, I might have not made my leap and probably would not be in this uniform today. Becoming a member of the United States Army recruiting team means having a physical and mental toughness in order to perform efficiently.
Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstance. It was first studied around the 1950s, throughout the next 30 years some researchers had conducted experiments that showed that although the type of stressors resulting in the release of a stress hormones are different for everyone. Feelings of stress are caused by the body's instinct to defend itself. This instinct is good in emergencies. (staff, 2010) Research suggests that adults in later middle adulthood are exposed to fewer stressors than adults in earlier adulthood.
Stress can be defined with the words dealing with challenges. Being a highschool student, the common stress known to be evident is called distress. This is the stress that comes with a negative connotation and is also the cause for many mental health
Although I was not able to join the military because of a medical condition, I still tried. I wanted to join because of the fact that the news was encouraging everyone that we needed to stand up and protect what is ours. The news media has informed me of the amount of crime in the world, and justice being served to the individuals who commit the crimes, and therefore makes me not want to commit any serious

Stress, an unpleasant situation we were dragged in. Giving off the mindset of “Just get it over with.” whether to get an assignment done or that one project we just want to finish because of the ever so close deadline, nevertheless saying students shouldn’t follow. We’ve experienced stress once or more during our time learning, and most of that time was filled with anger, desperation, and depression.
