Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson is the worst President ever! Well maybe not the worst of them all, but he did not do much since he had two terms .He screwed up the bank, he treated the Indians terribly and he came up with a spoil system. Jackson does not belong in the Presidents Hall of Fame. For his WHOLE time as President he only made one policy and that was the Indian removal act. Not much for two full terms. Plus, Indians were not much a problem; the whites just saw them as aliens since they had a different skin color. Jackson has been devoting several paragraphs to the policy, but he never said the policy by the name Indian Removal Act. Is he trying to hide it for some reason? Why not say it by name, it was the first policy he made. His VERY first action as president, he called for a passage of a Removal act that would forcefully remove the Native Americans’. Yet again, he spent most of his time with the removal act when he could have been doing more important things. ALSO, he sent those Indians on foot to travel without any food, supplies, or any help from government. How evil can Jackson be? …show more content…
Why? He did not want elites to be able to handle money. The bank went insane with the power. They became stuck. Paper money was worthless and the gold and silver was getting hard and harder to able to get. “The bank is trying to kill me, Sir, but I shall kill it”, Jackson” as he said to the Vice President Martin Van Buren as he reacted to the charter. Yet, trying to make the value of gold and silver equivalent to paper is not really a great idea. Today right now, gold and silver is worth millions of dollars. Eventually, people are going to notice that it is going to get more difficult to find gold and silver. Trying to make them the same value would of be crazy difficult. It was a waste of time trying to get rid of the
Chapter 1: The Aristocracy of the Capital Political • Every state assigned people to maintain offices on the homefront in order to keep its’ internal government running effectively and efficiently • Alexander Hamilton realized that states had too much power and that the central government was lacking enough to keep the nation running smoothly Ideological • Merchants want and need a stronger and stabilized currency. Prices decrease, debts increase • Separation between loose and strict constructionists Economic • British don’t want to issue paper money to avoid possibilities of inflation occurring • Colonials however wanted it and therefore trade fell apart due to the dispute • National bank created in order to solve currency issue (one bank with the same form of currency) • Gold and silver replaced paper currency when needed to • Coins were no longer effective,
President Andrew Jackson was not a good leader. I say this because he was unfair. President Jackson Signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830. The Indian Removal act was started because people in Georgia wanted to expand their land to the South so they could plant more crops. By doing this the Indians were forced to move out of there land.
Andrew Jackson Throughout history our great nation has been blessed with a copious amount of presidents who have left great legacies that are still renowned. While some presidents have made policies that were detrimental for our nation at the time, Andrew Jackson’s policies were detrimental then and continue to be a source of outrage in our nation today. While Andrew Jackson believed he was making great strives for the nation he displacing an entire population of people from their rightful lands, and is the creator of the corrupt policy known as the spoils system. No one president has caused more damage to his fellow Americans than Andrew Jackson himself, and because of this, he deserves to be impeached and removed from office.
He removed families from their home because Jackson saw them as a threat, when he could have simply given them land to share with, instead of isolating them. In addition to his prejudices, he was also a slave holder. For one that preaches America to be free, he seems to be forgetting something. America is a nation full of people, and for America to be free, so does everyone that lives in America. That is why I believe Andrew Jackson should not be considered as great as he’s said to
During the Civil War paper money had been made, but at the time it was not exchangeable for gold or silver. Congress had to decide wether or not to keep the paper money, get rid of it, or make it exchangeable for gold and silver. People had arguments on why they should do either option. The ones who voted to get rid of paper money or make it exchangeable feared inflation. Where the people who voted to keep paper money said there was not enough gold and silver to support a growing economy.
These bank notes would be backed by the large sums of gold and silver that the bank held and would be used as a medium of exchange. Law thought it was the unpredictable supply of gold and silver that was slowing the economy rather than a true economic problem. Law proposed that by switching to paper, trade would speed up due to the increase in currency issued. He created a bank that took deposits in coin, but issued loans and withdrawals in paper. Law 's bank built up its reserves through a stock issue and also made a good profit by handling the government 's financial needs.
One of many atrocities that Jackson committed was the forceful removal of thousands of Indians and the subsequent death of many of them. Although his reasoning, as is stated in his Message to Congress "On Indian Removal," was
His decisions have been disputed for many years, yet the reason his decisions were disputed are the same. Were his actions justified or not? Despite the controversy of this question, his drastic actions were taken too far making them unjustified. Andrew Jackson was well known for the removal of Indians from eastern lands during 1838 and 1839 which is known as the Indian Removal Act. The reasoning behind this was simple, white settlers wanted the Indians land for farming.
Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, and during his term many people thought of him as either a hero or a villain. He was thought of by many as the first controversial president, because he was the first president to come from the frontier and was the first to be a self-made man. The frontier was the newest part of the United States and before Jackson all six previous presidents had either come from Virginia or Massachusetts. He was not born into wealth and he had to work for what he wanted. People saw this as a danger which made many of the northern states not want to vote for him.
The Indian Removal Act authorized Jackson to give the Indians land west of the Mississippi in exchange for their land in the states, but could not force them to leave. He violated and broke commitments that he even negotiated with them. He tried to bribe the Indians and even threatened some of them. Alfred Cave organizes his article thematically and is trying to prove
Andrew Jackson, being a tyrant, abused his power in his time of presidency. He was the 7th president, but before Jackson’s presidency, he had no political experience. One of the only things that really qualified him was the hardships he went through when he was younger. His father had died while Jackson was young and Jackson received the reputation as a “self-made man”, or an independent man.
Andrew Jackson’s sentiment towards the Native Americans was certainly not a kind one. Manifest destiny was a popular belief among Americans, including Jackson, and he would go to the extent of forcing Native Americans out of their homes to reach their “ordained goal”. He believed in the expansion of southern slavery which is why he pushed for removing the Indians west of the Mississippi, which makes it the more disgraceful. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 said that it will allow American government to offer in-state territories to the Indian’s for their western land. This wasn’t the case when the U.S. went in and drove the Indians out by force.
Andrew Jackson was a tough man. He even went by the name of ‘Old Hickory’. Andrew Jackson was a terrible president, but also a good president. There are many reasons why Andrew Jackson was a bad president. These are only the few reasons that we all already know or they are major events stated in US history.
Jackson ignored the Supreme Court. He continued forcing indians out the west. This journey is known as the Trail of Tears. One-fourth of indians died from this journey. Just because Jackson was put on the $20 bill doesn’t mean he did not do bad things.
The time has come to make a judgement of the great Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States from 1829~1837. Although some people didn’t like Jackson very well due to very few of his decisions, he made many good decisions during his presidency. Andrew Jackson should be remembered as a hero of the common man due to his unifying leadership, generous approach of governing, and concern for economic equality. The first reason that Andrew Jackson should be remembered as a hero is because of his unifying leadership.
