When I was younger, I never planned to go to college in the state of Wisconsin. I absolutely did not want to apply to any colleges around here, because I wanted to get as far away from here as absolutely possible. That changed the summer of my junior year. I went to the Morgridge Institute Summer Science Camp. I did not go in expecting much. However, by the end of the week, I did not want to leave. We stayed in the dorms at UW-Madison, and every morning I would wake up at 5am and go for a run along the trail. It was so beautiful, and for the first time, I could picture myself doing that everyday in the future. As the week went on, I found myself realizing that more and more throughout the week. I could picture myself sitting in the classrooms, …show more content…
My experience in Madison was incredibly eye opening. I loved the environment that the campus offered, and the opportunities that were at my disposal there. Ever since, I hoped that I would be able to return to UW-Madison, not just for a week, but for four years. From that week on, I knew that I wanted to apply to UW-Madison. I’ve visited many colleges since, but none of the colleges elicited as much excitement as my visit to UW-Madison. I am apprehensive while applying, because I know that while my application is strong, I fear it may not be competitive enough to gain me admission. My freshman year, I struggled with some personal problems, and as a result, I did not prioritize my studies. I maintained decent grades, but not grades that reflected what I am capable of academically. My disregard for school also resulted in poor study habits and left me unprepared for my sophomore year. I got myself on track, with the help of my school counselor and my parents, and was able to get myself back on track. By my junior year, I decided I wasn’t being challenged enough, so I elected to take some college courses through the local technical college. Having those classes go rather well for me, I decided to take a couple more my senior year, and advocate for myself to be able to take an online AP course, as AP courses are not offered at our school. I have about 17 kids in my class, whom I have known since kindergarten. While the tight knit, small town community has been wonderful in many ways, it has also left me at a disadvantage academically since we are not afforded as many opportunities as those that live in more populous areas and attend larger schools. This being said, I made a point to take advantage of as many opportunities offered to me, including extracurriculars, camps, rigorous courses, and the chance to take courses through our local technical college. I worked hard my junior year to attain a good GPA, while taking the most rigorous courses offered to me. All of this has served me well in my own education, and in preparing me for college, yet it does not quite show up when looking at my class rank or GPA. While my ranking and GPA is not abysmal, it is also not reflective of my capabilities as a student. My rough start to high school caused a drop in both my rank and
I want to be admitted into UW Oshkosh to help me have a better education and brighter future. My high school diploma is the foundation of my education but my college education will be the main structure for my future. UW Oshkosh will provide me with more than just a degree, it will provide me with an experience that I don’t think I can find in any other college. I know UW Oshkosh is the right college for me. I am a good student for UW Oshkosh because I plan to be an involved member of the Oshkosh campus community, I am a hard worker, and I know getting a degree is how I will obtain a career I want.
I have also maintained a 4.00 GPA throughout my high school career. I have also received the grade of A+ 12 times for my semester grade. I also demonstrated my scholarship by allowing only one missing assignment for both years of high school.
As time went by, I realized how important it was to have good grades. Because of this, I was able to start focusing on getting recruited by a school that had my academic interests in mind.
As you can see my academic performance is deep rooted with a solid foundation. I have maintained my GPA while volunteering at religious programs, and participating in other activities such
This GPA and ranking comes from being a dedicated worker in all of my classes. I have taken 4 honors classes over the past two years and I am in 2 this year. I plan on being in more honor classes next year along with some AP courses. My grades are
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. Having a XX GPA and being a Distinguished Varsity Scholar for the past 3 years didn 't happen by luck, it happened because of the sheer dedication I have towards my school and
I am an active member in a wide variety of activities. I am very involved in 4-H and FFA. Through these clubs, I have participated in many community service projects. I work hard in the classroom and I’m very goal driven. I have a 3.14 GPA, and I strive to do better each and every day.
When I first graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a pilot to fly airplanes, so I signed up to attend classes at Kishwaukee College located in DeKalb. ECC helped me sing up for classes at an in district rate because Elgin could not offer the courses that I wanted to me. During the first semester I found out that I did not want to become a pilot anymore and that I would be happier if I changed and focused on computer science. The advisors helped me schedule classes back at ECC for computer science then next semester. During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for.
Although my grades were not always consistent, I never earned less than a B for a final grade in my English courses. Often my instructors privately told me that my papers were the best in the class and shared my work with others. My writing secured me a free trip to London and Paris with my business club as well as my acceptance into multiple colleges. I am certain my extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, volleyball, community service projects, fundraisers and employment also played a vital role in these accomplishments. Of all the schools to which I applied, only VSU waitlisted me probably because of my phobia about standardized examinations, which caused me not to perform as well as I should have on the SAT.
In high school I was an honor student. My GPA was a 3.5. Though I was good at school academic wise I only took a liking in two subjects which were math and art. I was accepted into the school 's art program in 7th grade.
To Whom It May Concern Throughout my high school career, I have tried my best in school while balancing other important activities in my life. However, as an immigrant living in the rural countryside, I have experienced many challenges in my academic journey. I have a very different way of learning therefore it has been hard to earn good grades while playing in band and pep band, working in a gas station to support my parents, translating important documents for my parents, teaching my younger sister, volunteering at a local restaurant, and most importantly just being a teenager. After I reviewed my application I noticed my grades and extracurricular activities were lower compared to other applicants to the university.
I have decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin – Madison for multiple reasons. My father is an alumnus of this school and loves it immensely. It has a great campus, a great community and especially, an amazing engineering program. It also has many extracurricular activities that I would be delighted to join. I feel that the University of Wisconsin-Madison would be a great place for me.
I write this addendum to elaborate on the discrepancy on my transcript and to present my claim that my grades from freshman year do not accurately depict me as the student I am. There were circumstances, both in and out of my control, that negatively impacted me during my freshman year which prevented me from achieving my absolute potential. I’ll begin with the most excruciating circumstance. I went to Purdue University as an out-of-state student with minimal financial aid and scholarship money. Attending college nowadays is expensive, notably as an out-of-state student.
A college education is very important for me to obtain the career I want. College will provide me the knowledge and practice I need to be successful. Going to college will help me get accustomed to the pressure of the real world and will give me the opportunity to become independent. Graduating college is my number one goal in life. It would be an awarding payoff for all the hard work and dedication to my studies throughout high school.
My high school is highly competitive and I’m grateful that I was surrounded by such wonderful peers and teachers. Completing high school, I received 12th place out of almost 450 students, with a weighted GPA of 4.244. Despite my hard course load,
