Romeo and Juliet are at Fault For Their Deaths “Thus with a kiss I die” (Shakespeare 5.3.120). In the play, Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers who in the end killed themselves because of the other's death. They were from rival families, the Montagues and Capulets. Romeo and Juliet met at a Capulet party and shortly after they declared their love for each other they made plans to be married. Romeo was banished for killing Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Friar Lawrence came up with a plan for Juliet to escape an unwanted arranged marriage and go to Romeo. Juliet followed that plan and drank a potion that would make her appear dead for forty-eight hours. When letters informing Romeo of the plan did not reach him, Romeo heard that Juliet had actually …show more content…
An example of this was when Romeo learned that Rosaline did not love him and she refused to marry. This made Romeo depressed which resulted in him seeking out Juliet in an attempt to be happy and find love. Friar Lawrence suggests this when he talked to Romeo and said “Holy Saint Francis! What a change is here!/ Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear,/ So soon forsaken? Young men’s love, then lies/ Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” (Shakespeare 2.3.67-70). Another example of this was when Juliet had an emotional argument with her father. She let her emotions take control, not allowing her to think rationally and explain why she did not want to marry Paris. When Juliet woke up in the tomb and realized that Romeo had killed himself, she was so overwhelmed with grief that said “O happy dagger./ This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die” (Shakespeare 5.3.68-69) as she stabbed herself. When Romeo and Juliet let their emotions control them. They ended up making bad decisions that led to their …show more content…
An example of this was when Romeo and Juliet went behind their parent's backs and got married. “Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence’ cell./ There stays a husband to make you a wife.” (Shakespeare 2.5.68-69). When Juliet told the Nurse “I pray thee leave me to myself tonight” (Shakespeare 4.3.2) she wanted to be left alone so she could take the fake death potion. Because she lied to the Nurse and did not tell her about the plan, the Nurse could not help make sure Romeo was aware of the plan. The ultimate act of dishonesty was when Juliet took the potion and faked her death because they were hiding things from their parents and lying to people who could have helped them. It made death seem like their only option in the
First off, Friar Laurence marries Romeo and Juliet without their parents or others knowing. The Friar felt as though he could have solved the family's feud by himself, a long-standing issue in Verona that could not simply be forced on each family. This especially could not happen if the two families did not even know about the marriage. The Friar stated, “For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households' rancour to pure love. ”(2.3 87-88)
In William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, six people die in the play including Romeo and Juliet. At the end of the play, Prince Escalus asks who is to be punished for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence, Fate, and Lord Capulet are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. In Act iv, Scene i, Juliet is now married to Romeo.
Juliet would rather die than marry anyone else but Romeo. If she was not forced to marry Paris by Lord Capulet then she never would have had to take the sleeping potion, which then Romeo thinks that she is dead, so he then kills himself. Juliet awakes to see his dead body and therefore stabs herself. Lord Capulets' changeability in marriage caused his daughter and her lover to
The Montague and Capulet family feud made Romeo and Juliet believe they could not tell anyone about their marriage. The Capulets and Montagues were always at each other’s throats. An example of this was when the servants of both families were starting trouble with one another (Shakespeare I.1.36-50). The servants begin to argue, and this leads to Prince Escalus explaining how three fights have happened in the past. The Prince decides to put a stop to these fights by stating, “If ever you disturb our streets again /
William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is about the two families whose long-standing hatred led to the deaths of Romeo, the son of Montague, and Juliet, the daughter of Capulet. Even though there families have an ancient grudge they fell in love. After meeting they soon married but did not tell their families in fear of being separated. Soon after they married a chain of events lead to the death of them both which in some ways is there fault because both of them committed suicide, Romeo because he thought Juliet was dead and Juliet after she realized that Romeo had died. I think it is not Romeo and Juliet that are most responsible for the their death but Friar Lawrence and the disease in Mantua that kept Romeo from receiving a letter from Friar
Romeo and Juliet, both knew it was going to be trouble trying to have a lasting relationship because of there families past and their parents hating one another. But even knowing that they still tried to make the relationship work because by the time they found out who the person they fell in love with was by that time it was much too late for both. Romeo was the first to fall in love at the sight of Juliet and then went up to Juliet and caused her to fall in love with him. I don’t understand why he went up to Juliet in the first place if he was still apparently so in love with Rosaline.
In the death of Romeo and Juliet many of there kin and friends were to blame, but who really was the fault to there death. Was Romeo and Juliet’s suicide a consequence for their family feud? If the Capulets and Montagues would have been family friends, would the suicide of these two have happened? In my theory these people were to blame- Lady Capulet, Friar Lawrence, and Lord Capulet.
Poet Khalil Gibran once wrote “Only love and death will change all things,”(Khalil Gibran). True love is often described as beautiful and romantic, but that’s not always the case in some relationships. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the two main characters fall for each other, but their relationship leads to many obstacles and deaths. Friar Lawrence is a preacher and he is the most responsible for Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths because he secretly married them, which lead to a loss of possibilities for the couple. The marriage of Romeo and Juliet causes many problems down the road for the couple.
but i believe the biggest one was lord capulet pushing juliet into and an unwanted marriage or how he could never fix the feud or raise his daughter like any sane parent. Lord capulet was a father trying to protect his daughter a man who never thought how she feels but what would benefit her rather then not knowing what she wants eventually the father who thought he was protecting was eventually hurting .I think all this could've been avoided i feel like yelling and forcing can work but whenever you dont sit down and talk to someone who knows what there mind is going through. Sometimes anyone could talk to someone not everyone can handle a situation clearly but bad parenting skills and yelling will never
This is presented by how hard Romeo and Juliet work to see each other again even after the prince announces that he was banished for the killing of Tybalt. The prince says( and for that offense Immediately we do exile him hence. 124,3,184-185) This adversity makes it harder for them to be together but Juliet and Romeo are willing to leave each other other knowing that their determination for each other will not falter. Romeo says (I will omit no opportunity that may convey my greetings, love, to thee.
Juliet was deceitful when she answered “I have” (Shakespeare, 1997, p.61) to the nurse when she asked if Juliet had asked permission from her parents to have confession. This is an act of deceit because although her parents know about her having confession they don’t however know about her getting married. Her deception towards her parents led to her and Romeo’s death because the purpose of Juliet’s deceit to her parents was so her and Romeo can get married, and their secret marriage is the one that was making their decisions harder to make, like when Romeo having to deny the fight with Tybalt which resulted in having two lives taken and Romeo’s banishment, which in turn made Juliet fake her death that led to Romeo’s own death. So that’s why Juliet’s deception towards her parents led to her and Romeo’s
Friar Lawrence has the idea to give Juliet a sleeping potion that would make her look dead. This would result in her arranged marriage with County Paris called off, and she would be able to run away with her true love Romeo. Friar tells Juliet that a message would be sent to Romeo informing him about this plan, but unfortunately Romeo never gets the message. Friar tells Juliet, “Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift; and hither shall he come; and he and I will watch thy waking…” (IV.i.114-116).
The characters that are the most guiltiest of the death of Romeo and Juliet are the Capulets and Friar Laurence and Tybalt. The Capulets are to blame because they weren 't supportive, uptight, and not caring. Lord Capulet was going to disown Juliet for admitting that she didn 't wanna marry Paris. For example: "Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch!
Take for instance when Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence for a solution so she doesn't have to marry County Paris and while with Friar Lawrence she receives a sleeping potion and a plan and now she goes back to her father Lord Capulet to inform him that “ I have learned me to repent the sin of disobedient opposition to you and your behest, and am enjoined by holy Lawrence to fall prostrate here to beg your pardon. Pardon, I beseech you. Henceforward I am ever ruled by you” (IV.ii.18-23). This demonstrates Juliet deceiving side in order to fool her parents into believing that she has finally accepted her role as an obedient daughter. Because she chooses individual needs vs traditions in order to highlight her need to be with Romeo no matter the circumstance.
After Tybalt’s death, Juliet reacts oddly, “O find him! Give this ring to my true knight” (III.ii.146). This quote shows when Juliet commanded the nurse to give Romeo a ring, the symbol of her love, even though he had just slain her cousin. Juliet’s decision to still be in love with her family’s enemy despite what he had done built up the love between the two lovers, but it also built up the lovers’ willingness to commit suicide which was incidentally the outcome of the play. Juliet’s strong love for Romeo also prompts her to defy her father, “I will not marry yet; and, when I do, I swear/It shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate/Rather than Paris.
