Who Is Giles Corey A Hero In The Crucible

In his book, “A Modest Inquiry into the Nature of Witchcraft (1702),” clergyman John Hale comes forth to confront the recent events going on at the time. Initially, Hale alludes to the questionable actions and activities of the townspeople being accused of witchcrafts, and being imprisoned as punishment. In addition, he discloses how everyone suspicious will be accused, not even young children are safe from the hands of this fate. Hale’s purpose of publishing this book was to describe the incident of the Witch Trials, and to reveal his experience of the trials, since his own wife was accused. Characters can be illustrated from many of their physical and emotional attributes. From tall to short, too smart and dumb, there is an endless amount that you can say or tell about a character. Giles Corey, a character in “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller undertakes an action he later regrets. Since he is comedic, a fool, and a stubborn aged man, Giles will face the consequence for what he will later speak about his wife. Giles Corey has been a silly man who has been playing a comedic role throughout the play.

Back in the late sixteen hundreds the people during that time are very strict on religion. During the time a colony in the Americas called the puritans believed in witchcraft. People that are accused are guilty till proven innocent. In the Crucible it portrays injustice by how Danforth is not following court that is ruled by religion, Abigail intimidating the court, and the accused not having proper court rights. The following reasons will explain why the crucible is injustice.

There is always more to a human being than their looks or social status. Looks can be deceiving as a person with great credibility may not be at all what society expects them to be. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail, John Proctor, and Judge Danforth prove to readers that even people with great credibility can be sinful and manipulative. They prove this when John Proctor has an affair, Abigail sends innocent people to jail, and Judge Danforth continues to send innocent people to hang knowing he is wrong in doing so. The Salem witch trials were a time period when any individual could be accused of witchcraft for numerous reasons. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller focuses on the deviation of the trials and how the town’s most religious and honest members of the community are tried with witchcraft. John Proctor, the town’s most honest man, is accused of being a witch and must decide if he should confess or not. Proctor’s confession will stop the town from rebelling and uphold the reputations of Deputy Governor Danforth and Reverend Parris. Hale also wishes for Proctor’s confession so he does not have to feel responsible if Proctor were to be hanged for his witchcraft accusations.

They claim the witches were making them do these bad things. The girls accused a lot of people and got a lot of people of hang for being witches.

The play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller portraits how important principles may be. Hale, a character in the play, states that “No principle, however glorious is worth dying for”. His statement and opinion is wrong.

Danforth: Judge, Jury, and Executioner Judge Danforth’s position in the crucible is the Judge assigned to the proceedings of the Salem witch trials. Instead of treating this immense responsibility with the respect and restraint that is needed, Danforth abused his power by betraying the people of Salem and the Law. He did not listen to the people of Salem defending themselves before inevitably being sent to death; and he cared more about his reputation and the law than he did about peoples’ lives. Danforth was a ruthless power over the people of Salem he demanded respect for himself and the court; and nothing was more important than that.

Who Is To Blame? In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Judge Danforth was the cause of the Salem Witch Trials. He was about 60, He came to Salem to judge the witchcraft, he also from Boston, and he judge the witch trials with three other People. Miller demonstrated that it was Danforth’s Flaws of Stubbornness, Quick-tempered, and Pride that led him to be most responsible for the tragedy of the witch-hunt in Salem.

The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is about real life events that has been changed a bit by the author. The play is set back in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, were the Salem Witchcraft Trials were going on. The Witchcraft Trials were trials that mostly girls, but some men got accused of seeing the devil and doing work for him. If you were accused of being a witch you were to admit to seeing the devil, accuse other people, or you would get hung. Some people wouldn 't admit to being a witch just to save their life because of their faith in Jesus.

Abigail is being accused of witchcraft and she is a manipulative girl. Abigail has been accused of committing witchcraft in the woods and she plans to bring other people down with her.

Salem is a town that is centered on their religious beliefs. The church is the basis for their morals and ethics, but discovery of the actions of the town’s girls impacts the entire town. Reverend Parris discovers the girls along with Tituba conjuring up spells, singing Barbados songs, and dancing naked. This begins a series of events in The Crucible by Arthur Miller where he uses irony to show that guilt can cause the most upstanding men to act uncharacteristically. Hale is invited to town to prove that there is no witchcraft in the town.

The court refuses to accept the deposition. Further into Act III, Giles enters the court with another deposition (1322) that accuses Thomas Putnam of forcing his daughter to accuse another member of the town, George Jacobs, of witchery in order to gain his lands (1323). In those lines, Hawthorne quickly turns the questions back to Martha as if he knows that he does not have the evidence to support these claims.  This is what adds to the hysteria.   The court is convicting people of a crime without the proper evidence and they are basing the verdict solely on the statements of others.
