In 1692 hundreds of people were sitting in jail for being witches, but none of them were really witches. An author named Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible based of the true events of the Salem witch trials. In the play some girls get in trouble for dancing in the woods. They claim the witches were making them do these bad things. The girls accused a lot of people and got a lot of people of hang for being witches. The play is about human weakness, hypocrisy, and vindictiveness. In each paragraph these traits will be further explained.
The first trait is human weakness. This appears man times throughout The Crucible. One time is when Mary Warren is getting questioned about pretending and she then accuses John Proctor. She did this because she was scared for her life. That show weakness because she cannot handle being questioned. Another example of weakness is when Abigail Williams runs away from Salem and robs her uncle. She runs away because she realizes that everyone hates her and most …show more content…

This is one of the most common traits displayed in The Crucible. The first example I have is when Abigail accused Elizabeth. His is vindictive because Abigail accused Elizabeth so she could get John. The next time this happens is when Mary accuses John so she can live. She told john she would confess then when she tried she got nervous and accused John to save her own life. The third example of vindictiveness is when Thomas Putnam accuses Jacobs. Jacobs had a lot of land and Thomas saw the opportunity to get it for free. That as a very vindictive move from Thomas Putnam. The final example is at the beginning of the play Abigail threatens all of the girls. “Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you” (1268). She told the girls if they did not go along with her plan she would kill
