For centuries, our world has developed from agricultural age into a technological era. Nowadays, we are surrounded by all kinds of electrical equipment to serve our work and life with much higher efficiency. There are tons of innovations and new technologies that have been developed recently: Internet, robots, social apps and new treating methods. Those technologies are developing really fast at a speed we could never image before. However, as time goes by, it also brings people concerns, is those technologies going to bring any threat to our daily life? In Lauren Slater’s essay, “ Who Holds the Clicker?”, the author introduced a new method, DBS--Deep Brain stimulation Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)--which is a faster way to treat the patient 's’ …show more content…
Authenticity, defined as intimacy and also have the feeling of empathy for another. DBS still is less of a threat than the cyber because the great use of cyber lets people be isolated from the society, have further distance from their friends and also let people lose their personal identity which are a greater threat to our human authenticity.
People feel happiness and have closer relationship with their family after curing by DBS while the use of Internet let people have further distance from each other. In Lauren Slater’s Essay, she introduced Mario, a person who has mental disease, OCD, and is desperate to be cured. Since Mario has OCD, he cannot see dirty things and even have his own kids. He used different kinds of ways in order to treat this disease while nothing worked. So he tries the new method--DBS. Once the doctors detect any emotional change in his head, they could control his mind and let him become normal immediately. He will not be out of control anymore because the doctor holds the clicker. After a certain time of experiment, his good mood continued and he is becoming better. “ He

So far, DBS is the quickest way to solve people’s mental disease because this training method is basically controlled by the doctors. Doctors are actually the person who control Mario’s emotion than himself and his life tied up on them. “Sometimes they travel to conference together on the same plane. I tell them not to do it. It makes me very nervous. Who would adjust me if the plane went down? No one in this country knows how to do it. It’s like the president and the vice president traveling together” (Slater, 241) To Mario, these doctors’ travel gives him fear and let him become nervous. Even though his emotional life is largely depend on the doctors, he is still the person who has his own free will which makes him become unique and help him to make the decision. Since he was desperate by suffering from OCD so he wants to be treated. He wants to become not only as a normal person but also a father. Mario has the strong desire to become a father and he is tired of the long and useless method that he has been tried before. So, he let the doctors implant the electrode into his head instead of others. In order to be cured, Mario, in his free will, shares control of himself with the doctors and then he takes the risk to do the implant surgery. While for the seductive Internet, it provides an

Living in a democratic country is a privilege considering, we are not controlled by one, rather the members of a state have a say. Without unity, democracy may be at risk because citizens may opt out of democratic engagement. “Isolation Bad for Democracy” written by Tom Sandborn, covers topics on how this dilemma has various solutions. During these modern times, our economy is constantly fluctuating causing people to move, following their work.
The reports and viewpoints on technology’s effects vary drastically. Therefore, the ultimate question is, what is the effect of technology on humanity? In order to answer this ultimate question, I read two articles: “Is the Onslaught Making us Crazy?” by Tony Dokoupil and “Don’t Fear the Digital” by Steven Johnson. In Dokoupil’s article, he discusses how the use of technology causes individuals to develop numerous psychological issues or disorders and that usage of technology can change brain structure.
If you had the chance to get $50,000 would you do it? What if you had to take another person’s life away to get it? In the story “Button, Button” By Richard Matheson, he uses a lot of red herring. As I was reading I was confused, but that’s good because the author did a nice job on throwing off the readers and making them think while reading the story. The author does this by talking about what the button is used for, how Norma was planning on using the money that she gets, and the unexpected conclusion of Arthur dying.

The introductory conversation of Mario and Gloria shows the life and kind of family they had. While reading the story I can imagine how they suffer because of poverty and discrimination of the society. Discrimination was not literally stated in the story but if you are going to understand what Mario was trying to tell, you will realize it. In the story Mario is a thief in his past life,
I think that every future may bring technology, it will help us, but the same time, mobile phones may bring us some bad things that will leave a bad fingerprint in our societies
(Julia J. 2013) Emotion and willingness to treat have significant influence on the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient. Patient is our teacher. Patch Adams understands himself better after helping Rudy. There is always something to learn from each patient. Some patients with chronic disease know more about it than any practitioner because they live with the disease for decades.
Technology has always been progressing thus it is rampant in our society today. We use technology; depend on technology in our daily life and our needs and demands for technology keep on rising (Ramey, 2012). Wherever you look, you will see people holding different kinds of technology like cell phone, laptop, tablets and etc. It appears to most of us that technology is a necessity to the point where we can no longer live without it. According to Gavin (2013), technology moves at a rapid pace, and can be hard to keep up with at times.
Click, directed by Frank Coraci, was produced in 2006. The main performers are Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken, Frank Coraci and David Hasselhoff. Click is a story about how everybody should have a balance between time spent at job and time spent with family. Also it shows the importance to prioritize what is most important at any given point in time. Click is set in the city of New York in the early 2000’s most of the time, though it also shows the main character in the past and future without a specific year.
However, does all this new technology really benefit us? Will we allow technology to overtake our world? We can already see the ramifications of so much technology. Adults and children have become stagnate which is affecting their health. On the other hand we can also see all the good technology can do.
The film “Click” starring Adam Sandler is quite an enjoyable movie to watch to catch a good laugh. The movie was known for Sandler and the amusing events that happened, but after you watch it you may realize a great important lesson from it. The lesson can be seen as going through life too fast and not living in the moment. The movie “Click” is mainly seen as a comedy film for all ages, but realizing how important the message is, it can also be a serious life lesson. Sandlers “Click” makes you appreciate the value of time, family, and life.
They imply that life would be hard to live with the lack of new technologies, however, it becomes ironic because life is already at risk due to technology. Making technological advances and preserving the environment and human health will not be possible because of the pollution resulting of the waste output, the depletion of natural resources and the global warming resulting of the emission of carbon dioxide. To begin with, the waste output of the new technologies pollutes the lands, the water and the air of the earth. An average computer screen contains up to 8 pounds of lead and 2 to 5 percent of the trash in American landfills belong to electronics waste.
Actually, one of the biggest problems and is not taken into account is the fact that as technology gets to cover a large part of the lives of all people making itself indispensable, but at the same time causing multiples problems by overuse. This causes many problems especially within families, such as the lack of communication between parents and children, affecting the relations of the children with their friends. We will talk about how to live with the technology in different types of families according the social stratum; in how each one live and how different are the problems of each family. The family division is one of the most important consequences because of technology, if is not handled with prudence.
