TOMS is a California based company that was founded in 2002 by Blake Mycoskie when he visited Argentina, and saw that many of the people there were wearing “alpargatas”; a simple, classic slip on shoe (Blake Mycoskie, 2011). He soon realized that a lack of shoes was a major problem in Argentina, and its surrounding developing countries, where many of the children would roam barefoot (Blake Mycoskie, 2011).
