pd.2 The War Of 1812 In the War of 1812, the Us went up against the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain. In a conflict that would impacted on the young country’s future. The immediate causes of the war of 1812 were a series of economic sanctions taken by the british and french against the us as part of the napoleonic wars and american outrage at the british practice of the impressment especially after the chesapeake incident of 1807.

This new acquisition and expansion caused more questions than answers. The tensions between the U.S. and Great Britain boiled over by 1812 and the War of 1812 begins. It is ultimately a war of expansion and ends in a stalemate. The Peace Treaty of Gent ends the war with a draw.

The immediate causes of the War of 1812 were a sequence of economic consent removed by the British and French opposed to the United States as piece of the Napoleonic Wars and the Americans upset at the British impressment operation mainly from the Chesapeake event during 1807. “In 1807, British warships attacked the U.S. Navy vessel Chesapeake, killing three, wounding eighteen, and seizing four alleged deserters.” (Henretta, 215) In 1809, the United States’ Congress revoked Thomas Jefferson’s much disliked Embargo Act. In 1806, the Embargo Act paralyzed the American marketing, during this time the United States tried many retaliation type embargoes.

The cause of the war is the French and British were in a war. Then they tried to stop some of America's trading to them and other countries. During that time Thomas Jefferson was president he ceased outside trade completely with anyone. The War of 1812 influenced the geography, civics, and economics of America.

This war was started for a few reasons: the British were kidnapping U.S. sailors and forcing them into the Navy, attempting to restrict trade with America, and fighting a war with an ally country, France. Congressmen called “warhawks” strongly encouraged the war although little to no preparation was made. The warhawks wanted to use the war as a way to gain land in Canada without having to fight all of the British troops due to the French war. Although the war was declared, the House and Senate were “bitterly divided” on the issue, according to History.com. Most battles fought were undecided, but the British eventually ended the war with France and used all of their armed forces against America.

In 1812 Congress eventually voted for war. This divided both the House and Senate as they were utterly divided on the issue. The only conclusion both sides could agree upon was there was no diplomatic or peaceful solution to end the conflict. As America was hurt economically they had no alternative but only to support a war against Britain.

The war started due to the first battle of the American revolution, known as the battle of Lexington and Concord. In the battle America won because Great Britain retreated to Boston. Later in the war other battles have happened and America made a Declaration of Independence which basically explaing to Great Britain why they choose to rebel against them trying to cool the war down. During the war many battles happened a big one was called the battle of Bunker Hill and in the battle the Patriots also known as americans that rebelled against Great Britain, kept them in Boston while the British were planning and Great Britain ended up winning. Another big battle was called the battle of Saratoga and in this battle the British general Burgoyne cut the colonies in half and America ended up winning that one.

The War of 1812 officially began June 18, 1812; however, it did not reach Pensacola in Spanish Florida until November of 1814. General Andrew Jackson led the American troops against the British and Spanish soldiers that controlled the city of Pensacola. The Battle of Pensacola, really more of a skirmish, was one of the last confrontations before the war ended. Although such a small battle, it was a very strategic victory for America.

America continued to remain impartial and trade with all countries, but soon enough America was pulled into the war. Because the country was now occupied by immigrants, it faced cultural ties. At the beginning of the war, President Wilson decided it would be best to remain neutral. But, British propaganda was trying to convince Americans to join the war and become their allies. The British had an extremely powerful navy, the most powerful in the world at the time in fact, that did not compare to that of the Americans. Some causes for this war included America’s passion to expand and British efforts to restrict American trade. The Americans endured many losses against the British but had a few victories as well. Andrew Jackson was a major general during this war and made many important decisions concerning U.S. militia in the war. One of the principal decisions made by Jackson was when he led the Americans through the Battle of New Orleans which resulted in a win and gave him the title of war hero.

Americans were fully against impressment which would force American sailors to become part of the British royal navy. This was a major contributing factor for the War. The battle that was to be the US initial assault was launched at night against the British as they were encamped at the Villerie plantation. The US traveled down the Mississippi river in the dark of the night to engage the British forces on the north side of the river.
