I have always been a particularly musical person. When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer when I grew up, but upon joining the choir in elementary I realized I did not have the talent for singing that I thought I had. Continually singing off key and never sounding as good as my peers did, I decided to confine myself to singing at home where only my family could hear me. Despite this revelation that I was, in fact, a terrible singer, I still wanted to participate in some type of musical performance and decided to join the band in middle school. After trying out various different instruments, I settled on the flute and quickly fell in love.

Hard Work earns success in marching band. Continuous playing , short weekends, and exhausting practices gain your band praise and pride. The continuous playing in band class and then at practice after school seems to never stop. After the practices are done you get the songs so stuck in your head that they feel like the songs are implanted in your head.

Ever since I was a little girl I was involved in dance. From attending Melinda’s School of Dance in Humboldt to Michelle’s Dance Connection in Algona and then going back to Humboldt to Chanterella’s Dance Studio. I’ve alway dreamt of being on the danz squad. During my eighth grade year, I was so excited because that was the year I was able to try out.

Introduction New Orleans Jazz is a genre of music during the 20th century that was in relation to the African American population. Two distinguished musicians, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie, rose to fame with their musical talents in the jazz community. I have had few passions more intense and longstanding than that of playing the snare drum in the marching band. If you asked me now why I love the snare drum, I would tell you that it is the driving force of a marching band, and how even though it is a seemingly easy instrument, it requires an immense amount of skill and technique in order to play perfectly articulated notes. Why I actually started to love the snare drum, however, was because it was loud. My passion for the snare drum can be traced back to my town’s annual Memorial Day Parade, where every year, what I look forward to the most is watching the high school drumline.

However, nothing is impossible for a willing heart. I mastered my first song in two weeks, then the second, and then the third. Now playing ukulele becomes an important hobby in my spare time. From learning to play ukulele, I can now appreciate more the beauty of music. I made a lot of effort to get where I am right now.
