Would you be upset if your parents completely neglected you and didn't listen to anything you wanted to say? The books show how the parents are not completely listening In the two books both of the single parents neglect their children and do what they want and do not take anything in consideration from their kid. In the stories, Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the authors used disagreement to create tension between the narrator and their parent.
First off, the first tactic the author of Confetti Girl used to create tension between the narrators and their parents is disagreement. The girl only has a father and does not have another female around the house to see what she sees or like what she likes. All she has is her dad to take care of her nobody that she can actually socialize with that is a girl. In the short story it states, “He might say I matter, but when he goes on a scavenger hunt for a book, I realize that I really don’t (26). ” She realizes that her father and her do not like the same thing, and they disagree on a lot. The dad is focused more on himself than he is about his daughter because he wants her to like what he likes. In conclusion, she really needs someone that understands her and likes that same she does but she is lacking that in her life because her mother is not there. In Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, the narrator has a very different viewpoint of the situation than her dad. First, they definitely do not agree on priorities. I the story, it states, “Nothing’s more important than his books and vocabulary words. He might say I matter, but when he goes on a scavenger hunt for a book, I realize that I really don’t.” This shows that the narrator’s dad doesn’t take her opinion into account when he is choosing books for her.
It is extremely normal for teens to fight and argue with their parents. In the passages Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the narrator has a feeling of negligence from their parent. Both kids have only one parent and tension begins to build because both have different points of views. In both of the stories, the parent and child don't see to face which creates tension because the parent disregards their child’s interests, and they both have trouble connecting with their parent.

The conflict among the two main characters in the texts “Confetti Girl” by Diana Lopez and “Tortilla Sun” by Jennifer Cervantes is like Hazel battling cancer in “The Fault In Our Stars.” In the first passage, the contention is between a young girl and her father about doing her homework. In the second excerpt, Izzy and her mother battle about having to spend two months away from each other while her mom is in Costa Rica graduating and she is in New Mexico with her grandmother. In both texts, the conflict develops when the child feels neglected and abandoned, but wants quality time with the parent and when the parent just wants what is best for the child.
At first glimpse, it’s obvious her mother lacks parenting skills, and cares little for her daughters. Yet, there is a more prominent issue than just simply lacking parenting skills, the few pages she mentions her mother set not only a tone but is one of the main themes that occurred throughout the book. Her parents are so consumed with their problems they neglect Lynda and her brother. Instead of being able to focus on the children, the parents are focused on finding a solution for their financial problems or emotional problems. The children often have to give up their room for relatives that need a place to stay. They also feel they don't have a voice in their family. In the print version Sun, Moon, and Talia, Talia is a young and beautiful female character. Tortilla Sun is about a girl called Izzy and her mother who is a college student. To graduate, Izzy’s mother makes Izzy move to New Mexico for two months with her grandma while she does an experiment. Izzy does not have a choice as her mother already bought plane tickets. The protagonist’s viewpoints differ with those of their parents causing conflict.

In the novel, Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario reveals the struggle for Enrique in his trip to the United States which it is worth it because the love of a mother can not be replaced. As the Author, was describing how Enrique feels leaving his family and girlfriend reveals “ Only his mother can help him. She is his salvation.” In other words, what the author is trying to emphasize that Enrique’s mom will help him be a better person. This means that the trip he is taking is to be with his mother and her love.

Drunkenness is a topic that is relayed all throughout the novel Tortilla Flat on many occasions. Drunkenness can be seen through the works of the characters, the characters themselves, or in all the settings of the major events that took place. Many of the instances negative influences of drunkenness are in plain sight but the effect alcohol has justifies the actions as though they were indeed good. In the novel Tortilla Flat, it is shown how drunkenness is able to corrupt even the purest of minds and can negatively impact a person’s morality and judgement while under the influence and even while sober. Morals are a major aspect of a human being’s life, morals are what help in making sound judgement.
