In Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, the narrator has a very different viewpoint of the situation than her dad. First, they definitely do not agree on priorities. The conflict among the two main characters in the texts “Confetti Girl” by Diana Lopez and “Tortilla Sun” by Jennifer Cervantes is like Hazel battling cancer in “The Fault In Our Stars.” In the first passage, the contention is between a young girl and her father about doing her homework. In the second excerpt, Izzy and her mother battle about having to spend two months away from each other while her mom is in Costa Rica graduating and she is in New Mexico with her grandmother. In both texts, the conflict develops when the child feels neglected and abandoned, but wants quality time with the parent and when the parent just wants what is best for the child.

At first glimpse, it’s obvious her mother lacks parenting skills, and cares little for her daughters. Yet, there is a more prominent issue than just simply lacking parenting skills, the few pages she mentions her mother set not only a tone but is one of the main themes that occurred throughout the book. As kids grow older, they tend to have different views about things than their parents do. And they become more rebellious. Izzy, the girl in Tortilla Sun doesn't want her mother to leave for Costa Rica and her to be alone with her Nana. And the girl in Confetti Girl doesn't enjoy literature as much as her father does and feels like her father cares about books more than her.

Her parents are so consumed with their problems they neglect Lynda and her brother. Instead of being able to focus on the children, the parents are focused on finding a solution for their financial problems or emotional problems. The children often have to give up their room for relatives that need a place to stay. They also feel they don't have a voice in their family. To graduate, Izzy’s mother makes Izzy move to New Mexico for two months with her grandma while she does an experiment. Izzy does not have a choice as her mother already bought plane tickets. The protagonist’s viewpoints differ with those of their parents causing conflict.

Lydia and George are giving into the children’s temper tantrums, allowing them to spend more time in the nursery. The children use this weakness of parenting by disrespecting their parents to get what they want. In the novel, Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario reveals the struggle for Enrique in his trip to the United States which it is worth it because the love of a mother can not be replaced. As the Author, was describing how Enrique feels leaving his family and girlfriend reveals “ Only his mother can help him. She is his salvation.” In other words, what the author is trying to emphasize that Enrique’s mom will help him be a better person. This means that the trip he is taking is to be with his mother and her love.

Drunkenness is a topic that is relayed all throughout the novel Tortilla Flat on many occasions. Drunkenness can be seen through the works of the characters, the characters themselves, or in all the settings of the major events that took place. Many of the instances negative influences of drunkenness are in plain sight but the effect alcohol has justifies the actions as though they were indeed good. In the novel Tortilla Flat, it is shown how drunkenness is able to corrupt even the purest of minds and can negatively impact a person’s morality and judgement while under the influence and even while sober. Morals are a major aspect of a human being’s life, morals are what help in making sound judgement.
