Both kids have only one parent and tension begins to build because both have different points of views. In both of the stories, the parent and child don't see to face which creates tension because the parent disregards their child’s interests, and they both have trouble connecting with their parent. For instance, in Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, both lose a parent. Which gives them a sense of hopelessness. In Confetti Girl the dad and the daughters have trouble connecting. In the beginning of the passage, it states “Mom always had after-school projects waiting for me.’Can you help decorate cookies?’she'd say. Or, "Go outside and pick some flowers.’ Or, ‘Fix my nails, please.’” She loved to paint them, but since she wasn't coordinated with her left hand, her right-hand nails looked like a preschooler's coloring page.”(1) This quote shows how she and her mom had strong connections, and after she probably was gone, the connection was lost, and it’s harder with only one parent. That's what creates tension since one bond between a parent was lost, it was harder to have such a great connection when there’s one

“Baby, I promise I’ll be back soon. There’s no need to cry, I’ll be back before you know it.” The worst phrases that I was accustomed to hearing almost every year. Being with your mother is a place that will forever be a child 's favorite sanctuary, however, I never experienced that sacred temple. Because of this missing piece in my life, transitioning has never been easier.
I felt a sudden urge to bolt for the front door and run.” it is clear that Izzy really wants to go with her mother but her mother is not allowing her and instead, sending her to her Nana’s house. And that last sentence shows the amount of tension added to the conflict as Izzy wants to “bolt for the door and run.” And. also, in the quote,”Honey, you can make friends at your new school in the fall, Besides, this is a wonderful opportunity for you.’

For example, the opening first story explains her desire to eat American food instead of Indian food. She describes how the children at school have tuna salad sandwiches her mother doesn’t know how to make it nor does she really care for the food. Describing her desire for American food foreshadows to the relationship between her parents and even her culture. Constantly wanting American food while she grows up creates a disconnection in her relationship with her
The comparison of characters is something an author allows us to do while reading a story, by telling us about the characters’ looks, their personalities, their lifestyles, and also the traits that may describe a character. “Everyday Use” written by Alice Walker, two characters named Maggie and Dee had a few things in common and many differences from each other. The characters Maggie and Dee, also known as “Wanergo,” are sisters who compete on who inherits the family heirlooms. The story is told from the mother’s (Mama’s) point of view.

Why would she make a bad choice at the end if she made all these other good
As I read the title I found myself delighted that the daughter could possibly be the narrator along with appreciation the daughter has for her mother then I thought to myself how cute that is. I’m convinced that the message through the text but mostly through the art is no matter what circumstances or tragedies a family may go through, together a family can hope for better and brighter days. The art which is definitely appealing to me in A Chair for My Mother illustrates with warm, bright and sadly a few dark colors. In any picture book it’s very important to realize the art that the illustrator is interpreting. Many illustrators convey messages in their art in many ways whether it’s through color, lines, or shapes.
