Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was accomplished many things in her life. She was a fashion designer, boutique owner, spokesperson, actress, and probably her most successful endeavor was her music career. Selena was often known as the the Queen of Tejano music. Making herself well known in a genre of music dominated mostly by men. She was arguably one of the most successful women singers to live. Selena’s music career began at a very young age. When she was 10, she was the lead singer in a group with her sister, Suzette, on the drums and her brother, Abraham, on the bass. The group was named Selena y Los Dinos, named after her father’s former group, Los Dinos. Selena grew up speaking English, but her father was persistent on her singing Spanish so she could stay true to her culture and ancestry. The group started playing gigs a weddings and parties, also playing at the family restaurant before it has gone bankrupt. As Selena continued to grow, so did her career. Selena was becoming popular throughout the United States and Canada now to. Releasing top hits like “Buenos Amigos”, and “Donde Quiero Que Estas”, which both reached top 5 on the Latin Billboard Charts. She started playing for larger audiences, performing at Houston Astrodome for more than 60,000 people. In 1994 she won a Grammy for the best Mexican American album. Also in she released an album called “Amor Prohibido” that sold over a million copies. Selena desperately wanted to record an album in her first language, so in December of 1993 she was moved to a record company that made English language songs. On March 31st, 1995 she was shot and killed by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar. This was a tragic day for many and she will forever be
