Selena, the Mexican Madonna NOT DOUBLE-SPACED -1 Selena Quintanilla pérez was a Mexican American singer. Her life was filled with hardships and tribulations. Unfortunately her career was cut short by the president of her own fan club, Yolanda Saldívar. Saldívar had been embezzling money submitted by member and of the fan club as well as financial profit from Selena's clothing store.

As soon as Selena was taught Spanish. She explored new styles of music. She started singing Tejano, cumbia, pop, and calypso. She was more than just a talented singer. She was a singer, a songwriter, a model and a designer.

In 1986, Selena recorded her second album, Alpha, won the award for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Tejano Music Awards, and was discovered by two huge names in the Tejano music industry; Rick Trevio, and Johnny Canales. In 1988, two more Selena albums were released, Preciosa and Dulce Amor. In 1988, Selena met a guitarist named Chris Perez. On April 3, 1992, Selena married Chris Perez. In 1990, a fan approached Abraham with the idea of starting a fan club.

Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. After one time of singing to her father, a band was created and she was put into the singing world. Since that day, many journeys occurred. She has performed in many places like Mexico and Texas. She even got married and won a Grammy.

Selena had a childhood filled with family and friends and then her singing career. Selena and her 2 other siblings formed a band called Selena and the Dino's, this band was managed by her father who pushed them into the band career and their mother who was always by their sides. But, that all changed when she started to become popular among Tejano music fans. Leading her to win “best female vocalist of the year” and “performer of the year” at the Tejano Music Awards. In the 90s her album named “Ven Conmigo” was the first Tejano album to reached gold selling over five hundred thousand copies. In, 1993 when went on to win a Grammy for “best Mexican American album”. The following year she released another album which was called “Amor Prohibido” that also went gold.

Los Dinos became known around the city , Selena Quintanilla's father dropped Selena out of school to continue to perform with the band.

Selena changed the music world in many different ways. Selena was the first female singer of Tejano music to ever have a large amount of success. Before Selena, there wasn’t many female artist. She was the one opened the door for many other latin female artists. In Tejano music, people couldn’t see women produce good music nor gain popularity.

On April 16, 1971 the Queen of Tejano Music Selena Quintanilla Perez was born. Although she was born in Lake Jackson, Texas she grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. Selena at first had no interest in pursuing a music career but instead wanted to be a fashion designer. Her dad Abraham Quintanilla former musician in "Los Dinos" had started a family band called "Selena y Los Dinos".
