I learned in this activity how crucial time management skills will be to my ability to complete this course successfully. The analysis from the questionnaire (Table 2) as well as keeping a record of what activities I focus on for a couple of days, opened my eyes to a few areas of improvement. From the patterns observed I could see that most of my time was taken up by work and commitments as well as procrastination. Not being able to juggle theses successful led to irritation and was unproductive. Research suggests that managing ones emotions, being self-aware and self-motivate can be factors for success for a student (Allan, 2009).
I also need to make time for detailed planning and stick to a schedule for learning, as well as a to do list

Kidwatching is an interesting and helpful strategy for me to understand my focus students’ literacy behavior. This observation strategy is an ideal way for me to get to know my students’ literacy tendencies and interests. There are many students who do not feel comfortable with their reading and writing skills, which causes the students to lack interest in all literature. After watching and interviewing my focus students, I learned that not all students like to read and write. Additionally, I learned that I must always be flexible in the classroom because things may not go as planned and I may have to quickly adjust.

In this practicum I will narrate an interview that was done with a Hispanic parent. I will describe her and her family structure. I will also elaborate on her involvements in her children academics, and teacher parent relationship. Also better ways to encourage parents to get involved in their children education will be added, and how teachers can assist with making the parents feel welcomed inside of the classroom.
By working in partnership with parents, practitioners are able to get some information based on the child to help with the planning of activities for the child. In addition to working with parents, the setting would have the support of parents therefore; the child’s emergent literacy is more likely to develop at home. This is because if parents are supportive, they may be reading to the child at home or encouraged to do so by the setting not only in the early years but also from year 1 (key stage 1). Also, working with parents allows the sharing of information. Whilst in the setting, the practitioners will need to plan activities based on the child’s interests but also their age and stage of development based on the EYFS.

Observations are very important when planning for children’s individual needs. While observing practitioner understand children’s needs, interests and their stage of development. Once children’s needs, interests and stage of development are recognised, practitioner can plan activities and resources accordingly. Children must be observed frequently as their needs, interests and stage of development keeps on changing. The activities given to children should be according to their current abilities which will enhance their development.
I have two school aged children and as such, find balancing time with them and seeing to their needs with classes and assignments difficult, though not impossible. I know I have the ability, but occasionally find myself worrying about whether I am going to be able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the coursework in the time scales that have been set. I take time to write and think, and produce my best work. I pay much attention to detail and this slows me down sometimes. Workload and deadlines may require a hastened approach to work in some circumstances, something I will need to work on.

Outliers has served to teach students the means of being successful and the importance of seizing opportunities as they come. Personally, Outliers has changed my views of success in numerous ways. Before reading said book, I had always assumed people who were naturally talented or had specific privileges were the only ones who could get far. However, Gladwell’s writing has informed me that anyone, if they are prepared to work hard, can reach their goals.

Students face various challenges throughout their college career. Thus, the problems that students have can range from balance, new lifestyle, to financial problems. Therefore, finding a balance between being a student, possibly working, and keeping up with their social life is a necessity. Similarly, others are away from home for the first time thus, they have a new responsibility with being on their own and findings ways to deal with homesickness. Likewise, being exposed to new financial situations is yet another challenge college students will need to learn how to cope with.
Time management: Time management is a very crucial component if you are willing to have a productive lifestyle. To be honest, I have always had issues with managing my time efficiently. This problem had become a huge obstacle once I got into college. Thus, attending a lecture that focuses on time management helped me a lot with this problem by introducing me to different aspects related to time management: planning, SMART goals, and important/urgent matrix.
