Before the Industrial Revolution, people would often perform work in the area of their homes by using hand tools, and necessary machinery (History.com). Not a single being at the beginning of the Industrial revolution would have thought how life-changing the transformation from the old civil times to modern technology would be. The industrial revolution initially kicked off in Britain in the late 1700s. Britain's changes later inspired many other countries also to boost their economies and even start their own Industrial Revolution. Although the start of the revolution came with both superb and poor results, the Industrial Revolution is a significant event in world history because it sparked the beginning of mass production, newly advanced …show more content…
Many people lived in small rural areas and didn't do much more than growing crops, and farm. While there was little to no manufacturing was done in these small rural areas, many people had a difficult time living as they were often extremely malnourished and had to produce their clothing, food, and basic living necessities (History.com). In this time, Britain was superior over their surrounding neighbors and flipped a new page in their book. They had a significant accumulation of coal and iron ore, which provide the necessities for industrialization. Additionally, because Britain was in an exceptional place in their economy and was socially stable, they served to be one of the world's greatest leaders at the start of the Industrial Revolution. The production of new machinery was on the rise and inventors were throwing ideas left and right; making new machines to increase the quality and quantity of resources. Instead of individuals producing products individually, factories started to bloom around in cities and provided a place for a line of products to be created at faster pace. For example, Richard Arkwright, a genius who became very wealthy from building factories is the man with the brains. He created the growth of factories and nearly bought one of the highest changes Great Britain. He initially made a …show more content…
Unfortunately, this is one of the worst results of the industrial revolution, but also a good turning point in history. Company owners needed to find employees to work for them for cheap and with hard working skills. The factory owners did not provide safe environments for their workers and often overworked them to the point of utter exhaustion (History.com). "The overworking does not apply to children only; the adults are also overworked. The increased speed given to machinery within the last thirty years, has, in very many instances, doubled the labour of both" states the author John Fielden, in his book called "The Curse of the Factory System." After many people saw how the employees were being treated, some laws were put into place. One of the called "The Factory Act," put child labor laws into effect and set a specific set of rules for how workers should be treated while working. The Factory Act instructed that owners were to have four active higher authority persons in charge, and made sure that factory owners had to license to own a factory (Thenationalarchives.gov.uk). Once again, without this turning point in history, labor laws may not have been in effect
Since the labor unions were becoming stronger, working conditions were improved. In the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, employers treated their employees horribly. First, management would keep watch over the workers during the entire shirt to make sure they were all working hard (Greenwald, 2002). Second, the factory was cramped and filled with supplies and workers leading to overcrowding. This created lack of air flow, lack of cleanliness, and lack of respect for adequate room to perform their jobs (Greenwald, 2002).
The Industrial Revolution brought awful working conditions to those who worked in factories and elsewhere. Working conditions for adults and kids were drudgery. “I am at work in a spinning room tending four sides of warp which is one girl’s work” (Document 1) People were expected to do hard work each day no less. If there was a break it was limited, people were not treated fairly. Breaks were ideally rare in majority of the jobs.
We live in a society that can sometimes be so reliant on products that we sometimes can’t imagine what life was like before machines. The first machines were created during a time called the Industrial Revolution which was a turning point in history. People were finally able to mass produce different products. Before this time, people had businesses that could be run at your home since you were making products by hand and you didn’t need much space. The Industrial Revolution introduced new machines that were sometimes massive in size and allowed production to move much faster and more efficiently.
The industrial revolution was both positive and negative for our country. Despite the fact that there were many good things that came out of about the revolution there was many more negatives for the people at the time. A few of these consequences included low and unequal pay, child labor, no job guarantee, and poor living conditions. These situations made it obvious to the government that something needed change, but it took a while for them realize it resulting in injuries and even death. Although it did take awhile for them to realize what they needed do to prevent this, eventually they did figure out laws to help stabilize and grow in in a healthy way.
Hazardous working conditions were present for those who worked alongside the new machines. Factory workers began at a very young age and were in extremely tough surroundings. They worked tedious hours and had severe disciplinary standards followed every day, (Doc. 2). As a result of industrialization, working conditions had become terrible for those in the
The Industrial Revolution brought about significant changes to the workplace. In Document 1, Thomas Bernhard describes the working conditions of children employed in Mr. Dale's cotton mills. While children in other factories faced harsh working conditions, Mr. Dale's factory had special regulations to protect the health and morals of those under his protection. Out of nearly 3,000 children employed in the mills from 1785 to 1797, only fourteen have died, and not one has been the object of judicial punishment.
The Industrial Revolution marked a turning point in history with mass amounts of changes creating everything we see to know,It all began in the 1750’s. In this time the beginning living and working conditions were for and the life of a worker changed drastically. Living and working conditions in the 1750’s were poor. “The streets are usually unpaved and filled with holes, filthy and strew with refuse” (Doc 3). With people living in the streets and turning a town into a city will have its flaws.
The Industrial Revolution began in England in the 1700’s within the textile industry. The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes by using different machines. Before the Industrial Revolution people made different things by hand or simple tools. For example, people wove textiles by hand, and after the Industrial Revolution machines were used instead. The Industrial Revolution began in England because of many reasons.
Many changes and continuities made up the era known as the Industrial Revolution, specifically in Britain, from the 1790 to the mid-19th century. Characteristics of the country’s economic, political, and social factors were affected by the advancements of the revolution. Continuities included Britain’s position as a major political power, and changes were in the living conditions of the poor within the great country. Combined, these changes and continuities helped Britain into the era industrialization, and later the world. Many continuities in the political, economic, and social aspects of the industrializing Britain remained from previous endeavors and continued into the revolution era.
They had to find a way to meet the needs of society and not just what the country wanted. The country around Europe wanted to make as much money as possible but it was at a big cost. William Alexander Abram, “ The Hours of Labor in Factories Act, passed in 1844… the excessive hours of labor have legally reduced to ten hours per day. Wages— thanks mainly to accelerated machinery and improved working conditions— have largely increased.”
Before reforms were passed, some children worked upwards of 12 hours a day, and safety was the least of a business owners’ cares. Luckily, the Factory Act and other similar reforms reduced
Introduction The First Industrial Revolution The First Industrial Revolution, which peaked during the late 18th century, started a new phase in human history, despite the terrible working conditions and unfair treatments in the factory. The First Industrial Revolution, which started the technological development in Europe during 1760 to 1830, was largely limited to Britain.
Child labor during the 18th and 19th century did not only rapidly develop an industrial revolution, but it also created a situation of difficulty and abuse by depriving children of edjucation, good physical health, and the proper emotional wellness and stability. In the late 1700 's and early 1800 's, power-driven machines replaced hand labor for making most manufactured items. Many of America 's factories needed a numerous amount of workers for a cheap salary. Because of this, the amount of child laborers have been growing rapidly over the early 1800s.
Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain and later progressed to the United States between the years 18th and 19th century. The Industrial Revolution marked a great milestone in the world history; various aspects of our day-to-day life were reformed in some way. Humans were transformed from handmade and tools to the assistance of machines. The main purposes for Industrial Revolution happened was peoples want an improvement for their life in order to overcome the hardship during the 18th century. Without the Industrial Revolution, it can be argued that the world today would not have a better standard of living through technology advancements, medication and educations.
The Industrial Revolution was a major change in the nature of production in which machines replaced tools and steam and other energy sources replaced human or animal power. The Industrial Revolution began in England in the middle 1700s. During the Industrial Revolution, workers became more productive, items were manufactured, prices dropped, making hard to make items available to the working and middle class and not only the wealthy. Life generally improved, but the Industrial Revolution was also harmful. Pollution increased, working conditions were harmful, and capitalists employed women and young children, making them work long hours for low wages.
