Also, it was a secret service under the water line of the ocean working like a shadow with targets like Japan supply and combat ships, which were submarines. Submarines were used first to block ships suspecting to have prohibited cargo throughout the British line by the Germans. In addition, they announce to the people aboard to abandon the ship and the submarine sunk the cargo ships.

Through the usage of graphical features used by Xan Brooks, it reinforces the idea of the portrayal of killing shown in the American sniper is morally unacceptable and is not accurate. At the top of the film review is a photograph of ‘Chris Kyle’ portrayed by Bradley Cooper. In the image, Chris is sitting in a military aircraft, facing a rectangle object covered with the United States flag symbolising independence and liberty. The object is presumably a coffin holding a comrade lost in the brutality of war. The position of the coffins show the reader how with war, death is never far behind - this is shown by how the two coffins look as though they are following each other.

In order to communicate the scene before him, Pyle uses a cataloging of images, irony, and imagery. Pyle seeks to write a lasting remembrance of the sacrifice of the soldiers on that beach. In remembering the soldiers, Pyle is cognizant of the interest his audience will have, an audience of Americans, family member, friends, and loved ones. Pyle uses symbolism and repetition to organize his article.

In The Winning Weapon? : Rethinking Nuclear Weapons in Light of Hiroshima, author Ward Wilson attempts to make the argument that Japan did not surrender from WWII because of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. But rather that the invasion of the Soviet Union was the deciding factor in their withdraw. He then uses this argument to indicate that our views on nuclear weapons, and how they affected Japan’s military decisions is incorrect. Wilson begins his argument looking at the Japanese’s military and political standing prior to the bombing of Hiroshima.

She was shot at point blank range in the head while campaigning outside of a Safeway franchise in suburban Tucson, Arizona. Lucky enough to have a second chance at life, Giffords found the motivation to tackle the law of purchasing and owning a gun.

Companies label their audience and advertise to them accordingly. Using reliable sources such as Stanford Research Institute, companies are able to use the data to their advantage to help market their products to a specific demographic. Craig and Twitchell give examples of this ploy in action by revealing how companies use “positioning” to advertise the same product to two demographics to earn more profit. Craig delves more into the advertisers ' plan by exposing the science behind commercials.

“Nanabush went about his work making the world what it was meant to be.” This quote is a representation of Nanabush, the protagonists attitude, to keep moving forward. The many struggles Nanabush excels through demonstrate his mental toughness. First, a person vs nature conflict, Nanabush’s blindness. The worst of this conflict, his blindness is shown by him falling in the forest.

In the smoking advertisement by CDC, the message that they are trying to get across is the effects of smoking on people’s lives and health. As commonly known, tobacco is one of the most dangerous drugs in the world; thus, tobacco kills between six and eight million Americans annually. By having Terrie Hall tell her story and show all the ways that smoking has affected her life drastically. Most of the commercials take place in Terries hospital room where she does not have a wig on or her dentures. Terrie persuades the audience that smoking has truly ruined and changed her life forever.

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Additionally, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. For many years, there has been a lot of controversy centering on the rate at which crime and violence is happening in society. Steven Pinker, the author of “Violence Vanquished” states, “We believe our world is riddled with terror and war, but we may be living in the most peaceable era in the human existence.” This quote from the article proves to many people that our world isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. Whether working with a co-worker, learning with a classmate or hanging out with a friend, the thought of any of them having the potential to be evil does not cross the mind. Everyday people are not typically evil beings, but if people are not evil beings then why do they commit actions like torture, killing and genocide? Could it be that the certain people committing the acts are just monsters deep inside, or could the actions be mere products of circumstance? The Roman poet, Horace once said, “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant”. Horace argues that difficult circumstances critically impact the development of one’s character. Although some may argue that character will reveal itself regardless if adversity is present, I agree with Horace’s perspective, adversity determines one's potential capabilities, strengthens personal values, and provides a feeling of self-worth. Sure, there are cases in which prosperous circumstances lead to internal development.
