The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.

When Ponyboy was thinking about what the people in the gang do what they do, he assumed that Greasers and Socs are divergent. Ponyboy thinks to himself, “We deserve a lot of our trouble...both of them have too much energy, too much feeling, with no way to blow it off.” (Hinton 16) This quote has a deep meaning because it shows that the Socs choices are more narrow, displaying that when a Soc does something wrong, they could lose their fame and their luxury. On the other hand, the greasers have boundless choices because they have nothing to lose. They are already at the bottom, so most of the things they do, won’t really change what they already have.

Hilton, we go to a time where gangs remain dominant and run the streets. S.E. Hinton tells us about two enemy gangs. The Socs, one of the many provocative gang groups, kids who live lavish lives and get away with the crimes they commit because they look clean cut and look like good innocent kids on the outside.

Thematic Essay- Society and Class Society and class is an important theme in “The Outsiders”, a novel written by S.E Hinton. “The Outsider”, is a book about two gangs, the Greasers and the socs who are rivals because of their economic and social differences. Instead of using her real name Susan Eloise Hinton, she used her initial’s so people wouldn’t know she was a girl making the book less desirable. The Outsiders is considered a cult classic and is typically assigned reading across the U.S. She always loved reading but did not like the books they had for young adults

The Outsiders Have you ever wished you could be rich? Or have a bigger house? Do you think that those who are not rich are a menace? Well in the book The Oustiders by S.E Hinton, The socs are more of a menace than the greasers because of the money they have, their parents mindset, and the society’s popular choice.

Throughout the novel we see the Greasers and the Soc in constant conflict, fighting and rumbling for gang dominance. Ponyboy is greatly affected by this and is already questioning the point of violence. Close to the end of the text the Greasers and the Socs plan a rumble to occur one night. Before the fight, Ponyboy meets Randy Anderson (a Soc) at the Tasty Freeze Diner where they have a conversation. Ponyboy realises that Randy is, “not going to show at the rumble” and that he is, “sick of rumbles because they don't do any good.”

" It also says on page 11 ,”The Socs are the closest thing to a real gang, and they're impossible to beat, because they have "all the breaks" (as in, wealth, power, and privilege). ’’ that means that they can get out of stuff easier like if a soc got arrested their parents can break them out because their rich but if it was a greaser they would be done because they don't have as much. The socs also are not good at relationships.

Ponyboy’s feelings and attitude towards the Socs changes in many different ways throughout the novel. His initial attitude towards the Socs was all about looking cool and tuff all the time. It was how things were. The forces behind his change in attitude are the softer sides of the Socs. His final attitude towards the Socs were softened, even though his gang still hate them.

First, when Pony meets Cherry he realizes that even Socs have problems- that gets reinforced when he has a conversation with Randy. He finally breaks through his bias about the Socs and starts to see that the groups are ridiculous, when he reads Johnny’s letter. The outsiders is a book by ( S.E Hilton ) narrating the story of over the course of two weeks of a 14 year old boy . The novel revolves around economical class and depending on the clothes you wear , how much money you have or where you 're from you are either a Greaser or Soc . The story paints the picture of the gang Warfare between the east and west sides in the mid 1960s in a town . The conflict in the novel represents the division of the east at West sides.
