In The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, takes place in the Roaring 20s. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the writer of this book, shows the representation of the American Dream at this time and how people desired it. The author also tells the compelling story of Jay Gatsby and his obsessive love for Daisy Buchanan, his past lover. This love between these two characters, unfortunately, ends up getting Gatsby killed. Although Wilson is the one who pulls the trigger, not only him are at fault for his death. Fitzgerald uses characterization to make this a more significant death for one of the main characters. Characters that are indirectly responsible for the murder of Jay Gatsby are Daisy Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, and Myrtle Wilson. Daisy Buchanan was driving the car that killed Myrtle, yet Gatsby took the blame and it ended in his demise. “‘Was Daisy …show more content…
Tom’s betrayal started at the scene of Myrtle’s death: “‘Listen,’ said Tom, shaking him a little. ‘I just got here a minute ago, from New York. I was bringing you that coupé we’ve been talking about. That yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasn’t mine, do you hear? I haven’t seen it all afternoon’”(Fitzgerald 150). Tom makes sure to tell Wilson that it was not his fault and somebody else, the person that was driving the yellow car. Tom knows that his wife actually committed the crime, from talking to Gatsby later on, but the sound of his wife in jail is not in favor of the American Dream at this time. To avoid this, Tom says he knows who this person driving was: Gatsby. Later on in the story, Wilson knows who killed Myrtle because of the hints and words Tom told to the policeman. “‘I’m a friend of his.’ Tom turned his head but kept his hands firm on Wilson’s body. ‘He says he knows the car that did it…. It was a yellow car’”(Fitzgerald 150). Even though Tom does not say the direct name of Gatsby, he makes it quite easy for Wilson to find out who killed
It has now been confirmed that Myrtle Wilson was in fact the wife of George Wilson, primary suspect of the case of Mr. Gatsby’s murder. Residents of New York might find the yellow automobile familiar, as it is often reported to be seen at Mr. Gatsby’s parties or being recklessly driven on the streets of New York by Mr. Gatsby himself. Principal witness at the inquest of the car accident, Mr. Mavro Michaelis, provided more details on the Wilsons. Mr. Michaelis has been running the coffee joint beside Mr. Wilson’s auto-mechanic shop for four years, and appears to be the closest acquaintance of Mr. Wilson.
In the end, James Gatz remained faithful to the illusion of Gatsby, but died as a result. Daisy Buchanan made the choice to leave her love for Jay Gatsby behind and was able to maintain her life of wealth and luxury with Tom. Myrtle Wilson chose to leave her husband and pursue her relationship with Tom, but was killed shortly after. Each person’s decision between two lives ultimately sealed their fate. Lying dead in the road, Myrtle had sealed her fate while fleeing from her home towards a life with Tom.
Did Daisy kill Myrtle on purpose? Daisy did not kill Myrtle on purpose. Daisy accidentally hit her with Gatsby’s car and drd drove off in fear. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
They find out that Myrtle had died and found out that a big bright car hit her. Tom was livid because he immediately knew it was Gatsby’s car, but he didn’t know it was Daisy driving. Tom talks with Wilson and tells him about Gatsby. This puts the image that it was all Gatsby’s fault in Wilsons head so he wants revenge. Wilson goes to Jay’s house and finds him then shoots him in the pool and turns the gun on himself.
Obviously, Tom and Myrtle had no loyalty towards Wilson when they were having the affair, as well as when Myrtle passed away. Even after Myrtle dies Tom convinces Wilson that he wanted nothing more than to help his friend through a hard time. Tom leads Wilson to believe that both he and his wife were loyal to him; he convinced him to seek revenge through his wife's alleged killer Jay Gatsby. “After Gatsby's death, the East was haunted for me like that, distorted beyond my eyes' power of correction. So when the blue smoke of brittle leaves was in the air and the wind blew the wet laundry stiff on the line I decided to come back home” (Fitzgerald 135).
Daisy Buchanan is merely at fault for Gatsby 's death. Daisy’s lack of self reliance and ignorance prompt her to be easily led into making bad decisions, causing her to lash out and be held responsible for the death of Gatsby. Being a women of the east egg society Daisy Buchanan has always been apart of the idea of “old money”, signifying that her whole life she has had everything given to her and she doesn 't have to rely on herself for her own self making. These factors impact her in her later life when she is faced with the consequences of Myrtle 's death. Daisy being responsible for the death of Myrtle ultimately leaves her to make the careless decision of letting Gatsby take the blame, because Daisy 's ignorance and lack of self reliance
Gatsby uses the last five years of his life trying to achieve his one goal of obtaining Daisy as his wife and spending the rest of his life with her, but what happens to him instead is unexpected and undeserved. Jay Gatsby got shot and killed by George Wilson. Gatsby did not sleep with Myrtle, he is an honorable man and would not sleep with another man’s wife. Gatsby also did not kill Myrtle, if he did he would have stopped the car and not just kept driving. Daisy did not talk to Gatsby ever again after the accident.
Even though it arguable that Daisy is responsible for gatsby she was the main reason gatsby was killed. Daisy was driving the car that hit Myrtle. After Myrtle was killed Nick ran into Gatsby and gatsby said "Daisy stepped on it. I tried to make her stop, but she couldn't, so I pulled the emergency brake"(Fitzgerald 144).

Tom doesn’t just lie to keep what he has but to make things better for himself. Tom offering a car to Mr. Wilson, Myrtle's husband, wasn’t to help Wilson but for Tom’s own benefit. He knew Myrtle would get to use the car allowing Myrtle to see him more. Tom is one of the biggest liars in The Great
Hiding behind a mask Have you ever had a day when you are too embarrassed of yourself that you wanted to hide by wearing a mask? Masks are used in various ways, they can be used for a Halloween costume or a stage play. The astonishing thing is that those masks are visible to others. In the Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the characters such as Myrtle Wilson, Jay Gatsby, and Daisy Buchanan use masks that cannot be seen with the naked eye, they used them as a way to hide their flaws to others. Jay Gatsby is one of the major characters of the novel, Gatsby is a tremendously rich young guy living in a mansion located known as West Egg.
The yellow car belongs to Jay Gatsby. Mr. Wilson is extremely amazed at his wife’s death. Myrtles death led to the temptation of Mr. Wilson falling into the thought that Gatsby murdered his wife. Therefore, Mr. Wilson gained the courage to denounce Gatsby and leave him in disdain.
However, the other time in the book when he uses violence is much more cruel than Tom’s actions. To avenge his wife, he tries to figure out who owns the yellow car that killed Myrtle. After doing that, he immediately shoots Gatsby, the owner of the car, with his gun upon finding him. After killing Gatsby, he then takes his own life; that is why “the gardener saw Wilson’s body...and the holocaust was complete” (Fitzgerald 173). At the time, Gatsby is swimming in his pool.
Tom and Daisy are able to avoid the consequences of Myrtle’s death. After the accident George goes into a rage and to control him Tom tells him “the truth” about “who owned the car” which was Gatsby, but Tom also thinks that Gatsby “ran over Myrtle like you’d run over a dog and never even stopped his car” (Fitzgerald 190-191). George was ready to kill whoever Myrtle was cheating with. Tom then tells George that Gatsby owned the car that had killed Myrtle so George thinks that Myrtle was cheating on him with Gatsby, and that Gatsby killed Myrtle. Tom and Daisy then go on a vacation and leave their problems behind them for others such as Nick to deal with.
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Jay Gatsby was murdered by George Wilson Husband of Myrtle. In the court of law there’s only one person who was responsible and guilty for the murder of Jay Gatsby. Although in the eyes of god there was more than one person responsible for the murder or had the ability to stop the outcome of the murder. Weather it was Tom being honest about his affair, Daisy doing the right thing and stopping during the accident or Jay Gatsby himself by taking control of the situation and doing what was good for both Daisy and himself instead of just what 's best for Daisy. Tom, Myrtle, Daisy, and Gatsby were selfish and self centered leading them to become Morally responsible for the death of Jay Gatsby.
