The story of Antigone, is about a brave young woman who wants to bury her dead brother against King Creon wishes. She watched her immediate family name get tarnished. Antigone also witness the destruction of her father, mother, and two brothers all because of fate. Antigone is extreme about her emotions which governs her every move. The people of the city all agree in secret that leaving this young man body to rotten in the street is ridiculous but Antigone is the only one brave enough to stand against the king even if that mean being put to death. Antigone teaches us that we must always stand up and do what is right even when you are standing alone. I interpret line 995-1004 as Antigone expressing that if she was married and her husband

Antigone is a tragedy play written by Sophocles. In the story, Antigone, a young woman, had requested permission from Creon, the king at the time, to have a proper burial for her brother, Polyneices; even though he was a traitor and the law forbids mourning for him. Creon had denied Antigone's request for the burial of her brother, however, Antigone had still carried out the burial. Unfortunately, she had been caught in her act, by the king’s guard, and brought before Creon.

Antigone represents a courageous woman that risked and lost her life defending her rights. She disobeyed ruler Creon’s decree that forbade anyone from burying her brother. She rejected this law because she felt that it was unjust and robbed her from her freedom. Referring to Creon she said: “He has no right to keep me from my own” (Sophocles. Antigone).

During this play the protagonist must face a conflict and they have to rely on them selves to solve that certain conflict. The conflict that Antigone faced was in the beginning of the play when she had to think whether or not her morals were worth risking her life. The big situation she had to decide was either to honor her family and the gods or for her to display loyalty to the state. That was a very hard conflict that Antigone had to face in this play and that conflict lasted throughout the play on her final

The first section of Antigone I chose begins with line 997 and ends at line 1022. This excerpt is within an episode of the play because it is a smaller section of the connected series depicting the events following Antigone’s burying of her brother. In this particular episode, Creon has just told the guards to take Antigone away to her tomb as punishment for her burying of her brother Polynices. Antigone gives her defenses as to why she was so adamant on burying her brother, and the chorus intervenes at some points in her monologue. In her monologue, Antigone says her farewell to the people of Thebes as she is dragged off to her tomb.
Antigone Summary It tells an appalling story of dedication to the state, divine beings or potentially connection. It grabs after the war amongst Polyneices and Eteocles. The two siblings were given the kingdom to lead in turns by their dad, Oedipus Rex. When it came time for Polyneices to control as his inheritance, Eteocles declined to hand over the kingdom which prompted a common war outside the entryways of Thebes and both of their ends. Antigone and her sister, Ismene come back to Thebes to discover that both of their siblings are dead, and their uncle Creon has asserted the honoured position.
In the classic play by Sophocles, Antigone is a tragic story of the bold Antigone who defied her uncle, King Creonʻs, edict by burying her brother, Polyneices, who died attacking the city of Thebes, trying to take the power away from their brother, Eteocles, who refused to share the throne with Polyneices. Even though Antigone knew that going against Creon and burying her brother would not end well for her, she still choose to risk her life to do what is right. After being caught breaking the law, Antigone is appointed to be locked away, isolated in a cave until she dies, but she hangs herself at the end. At the same time, things for Creon are not looking good, as everyone around him seems to be against him in his decision for punishing Antigone. Everyone Creon cares about kills themselves from a curse that is put on Creon for not following the Godsʻ laws.
Antigone breaks king Creon’s rules and buries her brother. In doing so she is breaking away from the rule of Creon. She is deciding her own destiny. She ends up getting caught and faces consequences, she put herself in that situation deciding her own fate.
She says, “For never had I, even had I been mother of children,” and, “ Cut off from marriage feast, unlasting wife’s true joy, or mother’s bliss, with infant at her breast…” (Sophocles 34). Antigone tries to provoke emotion in Creon by also saying, “ ...I last and far most miserably descend, before my term of life is full…” (Sophocles 33), to bring attention to the fact that she will die young and will be kept from everything she is looking forward to in life. She is saying that she will never marry, she will never have a child, and she will die before it is her time, because of Creon.
Antigone by Sophocles: I have studied this play. The whole play rounds about the civil war. In this play, Polyneices and Eteocles, they are the two brothers leading inverse sides in Thebes ' civil war; they have both been killed in battle. Creon, who became the new leader of Thebes, has announced that Eteocles will be respected and Polyneices disfavored. The dissident brother 's body would not be purified by blessed rituals, and will lay unburied to end up the sustenance of carcass animals.
The play showed that Antigone had a deep concern and love for her family members. The central conflict of the play was her burying her brother’s corpse even though
What “tragic ideas” do we see expressed in Sophocles’ drama? Answer with reference to the play Antigone. ‘Tragedy is the representation of a serious and complete set of events, having a certain size, with embellished language used distinctly in the various parts of the play, the representation being accomplished by people performing and not by narration, and through pity and fear achieving the catharsis of such emotion’- Aristotle, Poetics, Chapter 6. The play “Antigone” by Sophocles displays many qualities that make it a great tragedy.
