The truth is being a nurse is very difficult job and it can be very labor intensive and very rewarding at the same time. Just think every time you go into the doctor’s office or have an overnight stay in the hospital what all to do your nurse during their shift? In an ideal world and scenario nurses have the perfect amount staff with all the proper equipment readily available. The truth of the matter is that in most cases nurses are short staffed and must maximize their time effectively and effortlessly unbeknown to patients. The three main concepts I selected for my final project will be covering Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamStepps), Patient Centered Medical Healthcare/Patient Care and Touch System (PCMH/PTCS) and High Reliability Organizations (HRO) within all Army medical practices. Role II: provider of patient-centered care was selected for this paper
In the future, I will remember to provide a holistic care to the patient. This includes their physical injuries along with their spiritual and mental wellbeing. I will provide care that is patient-centered. As in the other IPE classes, patient-centered care is an essential aspect of interprofessional teamwork. It is vital to keep the priority on the patient’s wellbeing.
The type of model of nursing care delivery used on my unit is a team nursing model. I am currently working on a 50-bed orthopedic unit in a level one trauma center. The unit is divided into 2 areas. One of the sides is for trauma patients and the other one is for elective surgical patients. One nurse assumes the charge nurse duties, including making staff assignments, managing call-outs, communicating with the patient care coordinator, and supervises problems and concerns for both areas of the unit.
During a clinical shift, I would be responsible for providing care to patients with malignant hematological diseases, completing pertinent assessments and teaching skills, such as how to care for the mouth when experiencing mucositis and how to avoid infections. Self-reflection on Professional Practice All nurses registered in the general and extended classes are required to complete their self-Assessment every year. Self-Assessment is a self-directed, two-part process that results in a learning plan (CNO self assessment 2018). Through the process of self-assessment, you identify your areas of strength and learning needs (CNO
With the continued change and increased complexity of the identity of the nurse it has led to the confusion as to what role nurses play – are they caregivers or clinicians? With the continued evolution of nurses professional identity nurses have moved away from the feminine role of just merely caring and have moved towards taking on more masculine role which have traditionally been associated with power. As traditionally power is mainly associated with masculinity and caring, which is the core value of nursing, as associated with femininity. From this it can be said that nurses have evolved from being the overshadowed caregivers to now taking on roles that traditionally would not be associated with nursing however still keeping the care element. In order to establish exactly how the identity of nurses has evolved over the years and to understand what it is today, we will look at the history of nursing as well as looking at how professional identity is formed and what factors
They also have to advocate for patient's and support them through their difficult times and with they are improving their health. Professional nurses teach patient's how to manage their health. Nursing is a profession that can be challenging nowadays because nurses will be seeing patient or career’s expectation of services that cannot be met with existing resources. As a graduated nurse leader currently working at one of the government hospitals in Malaysia under the Female Medical Ward, the job can be both advantageous and challenging at the same time. Good communication is very important between nurses and their patients as it will lead to a successful outcome of nursing care of each patient. Besides, communication between the nurses has never been more crucial as well.
The Effects of Working the Night Shift, written by Julia Tortorice, is an article about it affects health or nurses and how it affects their families. The author also mentions that currently acts are pending to improve staffing and the overall health of nurses. The author successfully uses humor and the logical appeal of pathos to make it easier to understand. She also gives advice of what a nurse can do which will help me brain storm my solutions in my paper. For instance, Tortorice (2014) says, “Studies have suggested that napping nurses suffer from less fatigue than non-napping nurses” (p. 3).
It is the person and their physical, emotional, and psychological needs that are the basic focus of nursing’s attention. In order to care for a patient, the nurse must incorporate all these needs. For example, providing reassurance with an anxious patient who just finished hip surgery. Care also plays a major part when taking care of a unique patient. Caring influences my personal philosophy because it is the most important aspect of nursing.
As a leader, you are tasked with implementing new changes and leading your staff to accept and implement the changes. You must be able to present the idea, involve your staff in planning and trust them to come up with ideas to make the change happen. Leaders should motivate staff and know how to handle resistance (Huber, 2014). How you interpret change, whether you are accepting to it or refuting it, is how you will transpire that change in your staff. A leader needs to analyze themselves first and figure out how they process changes and what their leadership style is.
According to Patterson & Krouse (2015), It is important to transfer the message in a good way, for that the communication skills is one of the most important basic skills of nursing leadership. More than that, communication in nursing can make their job efficiently and help them to communicate with a wide range of people, including the patient, patient 's family, and healthcare providers. However, unlike bad communication, which increases nursing staff problem and can lead to worsening the patient health condition, a good communication saves time and reduces the problem of nursing staff in resaving and deliver the right information. Furthermore, communication is not only talking with the patient it’s also listening to what the patient 's family and healthcare providers are saying to collect more information that helps the nurses to save lives. In this paper, I will reflect my communication that goes well with one patient.
