Richard Connell, and American writer is known for his most famous short story “The Most Dangerous Game” (also known as “The Hounds of Zaroff”). “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short-story about an avid hunter named Sanger Rainsford who falls off a Yacht while passing by a island dreaded by locals. He falls off and is forced to swim to the island as the Yacht rides away. When he reaches the island he falls asleep after exhaustion. In the morning he explores and finds a very nice house and meets a tall mute man named Ivan who almost shot Rainsford.

In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford comes upon an island named Ship-Trap island and he meets a man named Zaroff on it. Zaroff is a big game hunter and he says that he is bored because, it no longer challenges him. He moved to Ship-trap island to find and capture sailors and hunt them. Zaroff gives them a three hour head start then sets out to kill them. Any captives who can elude Zaroff for three days are set free.

All throughout the world today crime spreads but more specifically,murder. The number of deaths by murder increase every single year. For example, the FBI has stated that from 2015 to 2016 murder increased by 1.9 percent. Just like in Richard connell's story “The Most Dangerous game,” where One of the main characters, General Zaroff, kills more and more people as each day breaks dawn. The Everyone in this gruesome world should have more hope and trust in themselves that the numbers with decrease in the near coming future.

Most Dangerous Game takes place on a small remote island on the Caribbean. This is a deplorable island where a homicide that hunts sailors lives. There are two major conflicts that Connell uses in his story in order to build suspense; these include man vs.nature and man vs. man. Rainsford deals with the internal conflict of man vs. nature in the beginning and middle of the story.

The problem is that the only way he can leave the island is if he survives a “game”. Where General Zaroff is hunting him. So Rainsford has to survive for three days.

The reader can almost sense a self centeredness, and that he believes that there are only two type of people in this world, “the hunters and the huntees”, and he believes that he is the hunter.
