General Zaroff explains a game that he likes to play to Rainsford. This game is where Zaroff hunts Rainsford and since Rainsford is trapped on the island he is forced to play the game. Before the game started Zaroff supplied Rainsford food, hunting clothes and a knife.
Zaroff had a pistol. A pistol is is easier to kill someone with because

While Ivan, Zaroff’s assistant hands Rainsford a knife clothes and food Zaroff tells Rainsford exactly where not to go. “I suggest, too, that you avoid the big swamp in the southeast corner of the island. we call it Death Swamp. There's quicksand there” (11) This shows that Zaroff had a huge advantage knowing where everything is located on Ship Trap Island. Also while talking to general Zaroff he explains that he has an entire pack of dogs that help him catch the humans. Zaroff never says that is what the dogs are used for but the reader can imply that is what the dogs are used for. Rainsford had nothing except for a knife and General Zaroff had many more advantages.
Rainsford never intended to go to Ship Trap Island. “He leapt upon the rail and balanced himself there, to get a greater elevation; his pipe, striking a rope, was knocked from his mouth. He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he had reached to far and lost his balance” (2). This shows that Rainsford fell of his yacht by accident and the only thing he was thinking about was finding men and food. “Where there are pistol shots, there are men. Where there are men, there is food” (3). After
What perils that tangle of trees and underbrush might hold for him did not concern Rainsford just then.” The island is a maze and can get anyone who goes in it get lost, but Zaroff knows his way and can easily find his way around. This proves that Zaroff’s game is unfair because he knows his way around the island. Last but not least Zaroff is a cheater; while explaining the rules he never said anything about having dogs who will easily catch the hunted. Whilst explaining the rules Zaroff states, “If my quarry eludes me for three whole days, he wins.”
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford fits the category of Zaroff’s ideal animal to hunt, because Rainsford displays the attribute to reason by being able to make many life saving decisions throughout the story. Rainsford has the ability to reason from the very beginning of the story, because he was able to remain calm to make a life saving decision in an unnerving situation, which proves that he fits the quarry for Zaroff to hunt. As he was in the water, he recalls the gunshots he heard while he was still on the yacht, “they had come from the right, and doggedly he swam in that direction, swimming with slow, deliberate strokes, conserving his strength” (Connell 14). Whereas most people would have panicked in the situation
In conclusion, the games are recreational activities designed to spend time in a fun and entertaining way. The objective of the games is distraction and relaxation of mind and body between friends and family members. Although the games are fun and exciting for people, General Zaroff likes to play dangerous games where he is the only one having fun and others are in fear of losing their lives. Finally, Rainsford is the stronger one but he 's become very animalistic and instinct in his nature to
When an unfortunate accident throws Rainsford overboard, he stays calm (Connell 28). In this sudden event, he needs to stay calm, and he does that very well. From this point, he immediately looks around and surveys to find a place to go that isn’t stranded in the ocean. “General, I wish to leave this island at once” (Connell 36). Hearing all about the island and General Zaroff makes Rainsford decide he needs to leave.
When Whitney was talking about the "Ship-Trap island" he was saying that ship always get lost or crash there. When she went to bed and Rainsford stayed to smoke another pipe he heard three gunshots coming from an island. He then fell off the boat and started swimming to the nearest island. When Rainsford falls off a boat and swims to an island. There on "ship-trap island" he find general Zaroff who hunts humans.
The Most Dangerous Game In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, and the antagonist, General Zaroff, are similar characters. Both Rainsford and Zaroff share common passions, skills and ideology. Initially, there is admiration between both characters, because Rainsford is Zaroff’s hero and Rainsford is grateful for Zaroff being welcome to him. However.
Theory of Relationship: The relationship between Rainsford and General Zaroff is that of a friend becoming an enemy. Paragraph 1: “He was finding the general a most thoughtful and affable host, a true cosmopolite” (7 Connell). In this passage from “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford’s first impression is that general Zaroff is nice and polite.
In the short story The Most Dangerous Game, the author Richard Connell shows that Rainsford needs control of his emotions, patience , and expert hunting and decision making skills in order to defeat Zaroff. Rainsford needs to gain control of his emotions to outthink Zaroff, who symbolizes Rainsfords "steep hill". When he finds that he is going to be hunted his natural instinct is to run and panic, but then he stops to look around and get a grip on the task at hand. Then at a critical moment when Zaroff finds him in a tree, Rainsford panics again because he realizes Zaroff is on his trail and is toying with him. Once again, he gains control of his emotions and formulates a plan.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
The the book “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, has lots of challenges and conflicts throughout the whole story. Two hunters are on a yacht in the Caribbean Sea, when one falls off and washes up on an island. There, he meets General Zaroff, a man with only one desire. To hunt humans. He makes Rainsford (the man from the shipwreck), go loose on the island in order to hunt him.
When Rainsford used various traps to outwit General Zaroff in “The Most Dangerous Game” he was using his prior knowledge to outwit Zaroff . General Zaroff was so focused on hunting Rainsford, he triggered the trap Rainsford set: “So intent was the cossack on stalking that he saw it. His foot touched the protruding bough that was the trigger... the cut living tree, crashed down and struck the general a glancing blow on the shoulder as it fell... He staggered but did not fall”(Homer 54).
Tanner Toussaint In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff. One of the reasons why Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff is on the island the only way to live is to hunt or to be the one being hunted. Secondly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to die. Lastly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because killing Zaroff is going to be the only way Rainsford will escape the island from a psychopath.
General Zaroff is similar to Rainsford because they are both dangerous and Zaroff show this in the story because he followed the hard traps. This is seen in the story when it says, “following the trail with sureness of a bloodhound came General Zaroff (pg.54). This shows General Zaroff is dangerous because he followed dangerous traps. Howeever, Zaroff is different from Rainsford because he is carless which he shows when he hunts humans. An example of this is seen in the story, which states “I had to invent a new animal…
Rainsford becomes the new general of ship trap island. There are many theories to explain why this is true like he is more violent throughout the story and he is very similar to General Zaroff. Rainsford becomes the new general of Ship Trap island because he becomes more violent over the course of the story. “ ‘Do not make me condone cold-blooded murder,’ finished Rainsford stiffly.
Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character Rainsford is being hunted which creates fear in him. He is scared of dying but overcame his fear by facing the danger of the hunting game.
