The sultan ruled as an absolute monarch, but the empire was divided into provinces ruled by governors. Beginning in the 18th century, many ancient civilizations began to decline including the Ottoman empire and the Qing dynasty. The Ottomans had reached their peak late in the 15th century. The turkic warriors demolished the Byzantine empire and established an Islamic society in much of the Balkans and the Mediterranean. To the east a new Chinese dynasty was emerging in the mid 17th century. The Qing emperors were not of Chinese descent, but were instead a nomadic group called the Manchu that conquered a declining Ming dynasty in 1644.

The most important factors that allowed the Persian empire to become great are their economy and their military. Document Three talks about how Persia built elaborate imperial centers, using art and architecture to demonstrate power. The building of imperial centers helped strengthen the empire by being central hubs. They allowed Persia to control the far reaches of their Empire. Military, Trading routes, and Communications were all aided by the imperial centers.

It is evident that Babur did not have any religious ambitions in establishing the Mughal Empire. However, the Ottoman had clear motivations to create an Islamic Empire with heavy religious inspirations. Once the Ottoman had begun to control Anatolia and the Balkans, they looked towards Constantinople. They knew that they would be able to greatly expand the empire once they captured the city. By 1453 the Ottomans finally captured the city under Mehmed II’s rule.

The Ottoman Empire came into power in 1301. The Ottomans were able to overthrow the Seljuks and after that they were able to repopulate the city and stay in power until 1922. The Ottoman rulers implemented many systems that were more helpful than harmful and allowed them to have strong loyal citizens. These systems built up their empire in crucial places. The Ottoman Empire had a strong trade and military system with religious tolerance these factors allowed them to stay in power for so long.

He founded the Ottoman Empire from the Crusades. They gained power by using their advanced army and advanced weapons to attack other cities and conquer them. They consolidated by establishing trade relationships with other places to keep up their economic structure. They were able to maintain their power because Suleiman allowed freedom of religion of his conquered people and he established a fair political structure.

Throughout history, many impactful and memorable empires have arisen. Each empire has its own defining traits that lead to its success or demise. Some empires are very similar, while some posses many different traits. And although some can possess the same quality, their implication and utilization of that quality can create many gaps in the empire’s overall similarity to the other. Two powerful and historically important empires are the Ottoman empire, and the Mughal empire.

The Manchu minimized Chinese resentment towards them by keeping Manchu troops north, while loyal Chinese troops were more centered in the empire. The Ottoman Empire also had military strength that made them a powerful force. The Ottoman army was led by Muslim Turkish warriors, and “former Christians... comprised the most elite corps of the army and many occupied top government posts (Bingham, 73)”. An Ottoman sultan, Beyazit I, was renowned for the “speed with which he could move his army (Bingham, 73)”, and fought in some of the most significant battles known to the Ottomans: 1387 at Kosovo, the Battle of Nicopolis in 1396, and at the Battle of Ankara in 1402. In the Battle of Ankara, Beyazit’s opponent allied with the Tartars, prompting the Ottomans to create a “new, more trustworthy army (Bingham, 77)” called the Janissaries.

Verdict of the Trial of Genghis Khan. After the trial had taken place, I decided that Genghis Khan and the Mongols were uncivilized. During the time of the trial I learned much more of the brutality that had taken place during his reign. The barbaric attitudes and actions of himself and his followers is what led to him being found guilty of being uncivilized.

It is universally acknowledged that society is made up of two parts—the men and the women. The Ottoman empire was no exception. From the 13th century to the early 20th, the Ottoman empire held a central role in the world of global politics, commerce, and culture. They conquered vast lands, spread Islam, and created a rich and glimmering culture. But, one must recognize that women, because they make up half of the population, played an important role in Ottoman society as romantic partners and financial agent; however, women were also dealt the role of being subservient to men.

Selim’s son, Suleyman, made tremendous impact on the Ottoman empire, driving it to it’s peak. Suleyman made an efficient and structured government that reduces bureaucracy. He also made law codes to handle criminal and civil actions, limited taxes, and improved citizens lives. By giving slaves education, it gives them the knowledge and ability to work in the future. He also allowed citizens to have freedom of religion.

The Ottoman empire had years of expansion before the Safavid empire separated from them and “As the Sunni Ottoman Empire expanded into the Balkans and central Asia and the Shi'a Safavid dynasty spread through the Persian Empire.” (5) A noticeable difference between to the two empires was their geographical position. The Ottoman empire expanded towards central Asia surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Black Sea and part of the Persian Gulf. While the Safavid empire spread towards the Persian empire surrounding both the Caspien Sea and the Persian Gulf. Noticeably both empires were completely different geographically.
