Youths should be banned from participating in sports such as dodgeball, cheerleading, and football. Where will the time come from? Who will be responsible for the students during this time? How will these people be compensated? Is this an additional responsibility of the classroom teacher? This case study will take a closer look at the implementation, pluses and deltas, of a recess program at a Pinellas County Elementary School.

Recess is an enormass change that happens between elementary and middle school. Recess has a purpose, that middle school should not be able to take away. Opening statement Most people will think that oh middle schoolers get enough physical activity but that is not the case. Middle schoolers need recess. When a child has a tough time learning, or is causing problems amid the classroom, is the cause a developmental issue? Or perhaps that child simply needs a break from the books. Recess allows students time to shut the learning off, and unconsciously focus on necessary developmental skills. Research suggest that recess is beneficial for students because it allows them to engage in physical activity, build upon social-emotional skills, and increase their cognitive and academic performance. Being that there are countless well-researched benefits of recess, schools should not remove the time allowed for a much-needed period out of the classroom.

An issue once thought to be just a part of growing up, has emerged as a “behavioral cancer” eating away at the academic, physical, social, and emotional development of all parties involved.

Having the desire to think about more interesting things will then be more interesting to the child instead of education. Exercising will also help the children from becoming tired. To the outsider, recess may seem like a waste of time when you could be spending time drilling test questions. It's true in the short term, but long term, what they are losing is the opportunity to develop their imagination and critical thinking skills." All of what he says is greatly supported by research. Now, if someone does gets hurt, well that is a problem, but how will they learn to get back up again if they never get hurt or fail in some way. Once they learn this, they will have no problem jumping up again on a problem they have failed to come over.

Field Placement Reflection This semester, I observed in Ms. Scott’s fifth grade classroom at Thurmont Elementary School. There were about 25 students in the class, and there were more boys than girls. Ms. Scott’s classroom was a positive learning environment for the students.

I appreciate your idea that, “To ensure play is a part of a child learning environment daily we could always play at a park or even engage in recess at school.” I would agree with you that play is essential into developing skills and think your post made me think more about the social skills that come from play. I do have one thing that I have encountered a few times is dealing with young kids and socializing. When kids are in non-structured outdoor play, like playing at parks and at recess, things like teasing, fighting and even dangerous aspects come into play. How would you promote safety and positive relationship building during non-structured times like playing at parks and at recess?

Physical education is a class that all schools offer that isn’t always mandatory for every grade level. P.E is such an important part of students education while in school because it teaches them to be active and engaged with their peers. P.E also promotes students to stay fit, shows students how to stay fit and healthy in their adult life, and boosts academic performance. That is why students should half to attend P.E every year of high school One reason that students should half to attend gym class every year of high school is because it keeps students healthy and fit.
