Field Placement Reflection: Thurmont Elementary School

Afterwards, she will lead the class in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and in the singing of several period appropriate songs. Next, students will be equipped with slates, chalk, pencils, and McGuffey’s Readers, which were a series of graded primers that were widely used as textbooks by American schools throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. "Line up everyone!" Mrs. Rogers, my 5th grade teacher, commanded my class to do after the announcements. We followed her instructions and did so. In the second floor of Kaneland Blackberry Creek Elementary School, Mrs. Rogers's class, Mrs.Riley's class, and Miss Owen's class were all lined up ready to go downstairs to the busses. Once all the classes got quiet, we walked down the hallways and outside!

The lead teacher went on break and a substitute teacher entered the classroom. The assistant teacher shouted at the children to sit down at the table and to be quiet while they waited for lunch to arrive. The children ran around the classroom, talking loudly with their friends. Some settled down in their spots for lunch, but continued misbehaving at the table. The substitute teacher and assistant both requested repeatedly for the children to lower their voices.

So they will move around or get in groups and do an active. The environment in the classroom was very friendly and open. The desk were like in the middle of the room. So it feels like you are not left out.

They drew straws to determine their role as either the 'teacher ' or 'learner ', although this was fixed to ensure the real participant was always the 'teacher '.

Where should I begin? Should I start with the fact that fitter children do better in school? How students focus better after recess or all the future skills children learn at recess? There are so many good reasons for recess, yet people are still arguing against it. It has a big part in education by making it easier for the students and teachers.

Along with race, gender plays an important factor in whether or not a student is successful in Mr. Giblin’s classroom. Sixty percent of Mr. Giblin’s students are females, while the other forty percent are males. It is unclear if any identify as something else, though there are no clear signs leading to this being present in the classroom. While we typically think male and female students will typically socialize with students of the same gender, this is not always the case with this selection of students. While there are sections of females who primarily socialize with only female students, most of the students cooperated and mingled with their fellow classmates regardless of their gender.

These days you see operant conditioning being used everywhere, you see them in homes, in schools and even in work places. Both of these forms of reinforcements increase or decrease the chances of good and bad behavior. An example was also shared about my 4 year old son, although he is catching on to what I am doing but he is understanding the importance of consequences and its making him think twice before taking any action. When you create a schedule for the reinforcement it increases the likelihood of the behavior of children and adults to always be good due to the positivity that follows

The Use of Positive Reinforcement To increase the overall behavior of students, positive reinforcement is a motivating technique to be used in a classroom. Positive reinforcement is a gentle and effective method to implement discipline in the classroom, where students understand the importance of good behavior, and as an outcome students behave well (S, 2016). According to Charlie S (2016), positive reinforcement has been seen to be a more viable procedure than punishment. Actually, it can make children to concentrate on the positives and encouraging them is a valuable approach to guarantee good behavior.

There are two types of reinforcement there is positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. Positive Reinforcement is where you are providing a consequence and a reward. An example of this would be if a teacher gives you candy every time you complete your homework you will be more likely to repeat this behavior in the future. Negative Reinforcement is where you stop the behavior or remove an unpleasant experience. For example, If you do not complete your homework you will get a 0 to avoid getting a 0 you will complete your homework this strengths the behavior of making sure your homework is
