Fraternities and sororities how are they the same and how are they different? Fraternity come from the Latin word ‘fraternus’, which means brother. Sorority gomes from the latin word ‘soror’, which means sister. When someone is a legacy then they are almost always automatically accepted into a sorority or fraternity, this is because of the legacy system. A legacy is a person who is related to someone that was apart of a sorority or fraternity, before them. In order to get into a sorority or fraternity, otherwise known as ‘house’, you must rush. The rushing process is a mutual selection process for acceptance to a house, if you have made it through rush then the next step is to pledge, then be accepted and initiated. Anti-hazing laws and

While other sororities make up its own community, the Tri Delta community consists of over 130 collegiate chapters and 250 alumnae chapters all in which separate into 5 regions of the country. Overall, Tri Delta includes 16,000 collegiate members and 200,000 alumnae members. Tri Delta has been around since 1888, and has been on campus for 103 years this spring. This helps display that Delta Delta Delta is very selective in the choice of women that have represent the chapter, making the Tri Delta community only as strong, proud, successful, and sustainable as the women who make up this
such as Theodore Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Rutherford B. Hayes, George W Bush, and George H.W Bush. Not to mention many other famous figures in history that had the privilege of being in this fraternity. Walter was also a member of the Linonian Society which is a highly respected debate club on campus. Walter also was a member of a secret society on campus called “Skull and Bones” which didn't have very much information about it online but has been said to be known to have information on national security according to some conspiracy theories.

Starting college is a stressful process and a big change. College students worry about meeting tons of people and making new friends. Some students decide to go through sorority recruitment in order to find lifelong friends and sisters. Others go through recruitment to find people who accept them for being unique. College students find their home when finishing sorority recruitment.

And more. This school has some sororities including: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Zeta Tau Zeta, Alpha Lambda, and many more great ones. At Occidental College there is more than 100 student organizations, or in other words clubs. One of the most popular club there is the GLEE club.
The first notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated that really sticks out to me is Umzae George Washington Carver. He was initiated in the Gamma Chapter in the year of 1918. To begin I selected him, because he was a very familiar name. I remember learning about Umzae George Washington Carver in the elementary and middle school. With creating over 100 different uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweat potato he was a very prominent African American man in the 1920s.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
A soror is entitled to attend the three Rites of passage of any chapter, granted that she is properly attired. Sorors under disciplinary action are not entitled to attend induction and Initiation. The secrets, passwords, signs and grips are never written but are transmitted by word of mouth from one Delta to another. All sorority insignia should be worn properly, respectfully, and in good taste. Membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a lifetime commitment.
I am interested in joining a sorority at the University of Arkansas because of the impact that cheerleading has brought upon my life. I cheered throughout High School and it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. It taught me so much in and out of the gym! Being surrounded by girls who I experienced pain, happiness, hardship, teamwork, leadership, loyalty, and most importantly love completely changed my life!
One thing that struck me as I read The Death of King Arthur was how the tradition of honor superseded reason, sense, and even national stability. In the beginning of the story this phenomenon is demonstrated by Arthur’s decision to have Guinevere burnt, even though it meant that the nation and roundtable would be broken by the alienation of Sir Lancelot and his kith and kin. Honor dictated that an unfaithful queen should be burn, so she was burnt, despite the wise advice of moderation given by Sir Gawain. Another intriguing aspect of this tale is the fraternity of knighthood.
One of the main questions that each freshman asks their selves when coming to college is, “Should I rush a fraternity or a sorority, and what are the benefits?” People hear the stereotypes more than they hear the positive aspects. Many individuals have the wrong idea when it comes to sororities and fraternities. There is much more to Greek life than what people portray it to be. People portray Greek life as if one is paying for his or her friends, hazing takes place, and everyone is just partiers.
College, and college life is something you think that never ends but something that comes to an by a snap. As we come into college, we join in multiple activities and organizations to get involved. One of the highly-participated or known to be organizations on campuses are Greek life. For some students, Greek life is something new, but for others it was known as they become seniors, or from their sibling and cousins. A myth or fact of brotherhood and sisterhood?!
