This is the final day of recruitment. During this time, most of the girls find their new homes. As the potential new members arrive at the stadium, they will be handed a bid. Once everyone in their group gets a bid, they can open up and accept or decline the bid. The bid will say which sorority would love to have them as new members. Most girls jump and scream with excitement because they have found their new homes. All groups will be directed to the field. They will match up with potential new members who are joining the same sorority. Ocen everyone is matched up according to their new home. The girls will line up and stand in a set of three or four. Then, one at a time the sets will say which sorority they are joining and jump to their new home. They will be met with smiles, hugs, and laughter. Ultimately, Sorority Recruitment is a life changing event. It can change a person's life for the better. Girls will find their homes with a sorority that means the world to them. They will meet friends of a lifetime and gain new sisters. The sorority will be a great support system for many girls away for the first time. The process is tiring and overwhelming. In the end, dreams will come true and bonds will be made that will last a lifetime. Being apart of Greek Life is one of the decisions individuals can make in
I enjoyed reading Goffman article “The presentation of self in everyday life”, it reminded me of sorority recruitment or “Rush” as it was formally referred to. With Henslin introduction and quoting Shakespeare I was able to reflect to sorority life. Depending on what sororities are present on campus could affect the how rush is perceived. There are days were the chapter all matches and everyone appears to be friendly and interested in the potential recruits. The potential recruits want these upperclassman to like them and invite them into this secret organization.
These letters help distinguish SDT from any other sorority and help unify them under one heading. These letters also appear on T-shirts, sweat shirts and sweat pants. The repetition of these letters, which we kept seeing throughout the house, proves how much meaning and value the girls put in them. The new members of SDT all have to learn how to adapt to being in a sorority. They have to learn how to be selfless and look at their sorority sisters as more than just friends.
It is a really complicated process and she explained that, "It depends on the Panhellenic which is the community that runs all of the sororities on campus. They determine campus totals, so when we recruit all of our new members we can only recruit a certain amount and that is based on how many people go through recruitment" (Vanyo). I thought that was really interesting because Swales' also stated in his one of his six characteristics that a discourse community has a threshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant content and discoursal expertise. So basically they choose new members who would fit the house best, and it's really cool to know that they wanted me as much as I wanted to join their sorority.
I wanted join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. sense my sophomore year of college. I want to have the brotherhood to help me grow intellectually, socially and intellectually. All these things I want and support I have seen in various moment through my experience with the brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in your illustrious organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I am currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice, minoring in African American Studies with aspirations of becoming a Social Justice Attorney. Born in the inner city of New York and being raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, I am not your typical Southern Belle or City girl. I like to think of myself as being a fine mix of the two. At a young age my mother groomed me into what she believed a well-rounded lady should be.
The first notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated that really sticks out to me is Umzae George Washington Carver. He was initiated in the Gamma Chapter in the year of 1918. To begin I selected him, because he was a very familiar name. I remember learning about Umzae George Washington Carver in the elementary and middle school. With creating over 100 different uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweat potato he was a very prominent African American man in the 1920s.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
“Sisters” to most people would mean girls who share the same parents, but with sorority girls, “sisters” are the members in your sorority who share a bond between each and every one of them. I am a member of Delta Zeta sorority, I joined at the University of West Georgia but still feel the bond between me and my sorority sisters. Sisterhood means the world to the girls in sororities and it is an extraordinary thing to behold despite the fact that it may mean something else entirely to everyone else. In Sorority Life: The True Meaning of Sisterhood, they state, “Sisterhood is more than the letters which we wear on/around campus – it’s something much greater, something sacred & treasured,” and that couldn’t be any truer.
My intention is not to join this organization to step or because I like to party but, because I believe whole-heartedly in the values of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., scholarship, service, sisterhood and finer womanhood. I believe that through Zeta Phi Beta Inc. I will be able to fine tune my leadership skills, make lifelong friendships and help people on my journey as others did for me. It is my hope that this lifestyle will change my life for the better.
“The chief significance of Alpha Phi Alpha lies in its purpose to stimulate, develop, and cement an intelligent, trained leadership in the unending fight for freedom, equality, and fraternity. Our task is endless.” Jewel Henry Arthur Callis. Since its founding Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has remained loyal to its ideal of providing advocacy for its community.
A soror is entitled to attend the three Rites of passage of any chapter, granted that she is properly attired. Sorors under disciplinary action are not entitled to attend induction and Initiation. The secrets, passwords, signs and grips are never written but are transmitted by word of mouth from one Delta to another. All sorority insignia should be worn properly, respectfully, and in good taste. Membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a lifetime commitment.
To the women of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. My desire to inspire young men and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
Like plenty of other girls, I never saw myself joining a sorority. I also lacked the self-esteem to believe that I would actually receive a bid from any sorority. However, in my first semester of being a freshman; I decided to participate in fall recruitment. Upon receiving a bid for Alpha Sigma Tau, I immediately felt a change taking place within myself.
Explain your interest in joining Phi Delta Epsilon-MA Alpha Chapter. * I want to join Phi Delta Epsilon because it would provide me the chance to build lifelong connections and gain networking opportunities. Most importantly, I see myself forming a bond with other members, studying and sharing memories of what it’s like to be a premedical student at UMass Boston. The ability to connect, strive for success and learning from others with the same goal to attend medical school is what I’m truly seeking as a hopeful applicant of PhiDE. Joining the fraternity is the beginning phase of my strenuous road to become a successful physician.
