Social workers attend to an extremely wide range of societal issues, and have historically taken on the roles of advocate and provider for the individuals and communities most in need. One of the greatest challenges that social workers have faced from the very inception of the practice, and one that will undoubtedly remain pertinent in the future, is ensuring the welfare of young, disadvantaged, and disabled children and their families (Tannenbaum & Reisch, 2001). This issue is particularly relevant when considering the social workers’ role as an advocate, as children lack the language and agency to advocate for themselves. In many cases, children living with disabilities and children from low-income families— two experiences that, more often …show more content…
The aid they provide is multifaceted, in that they assist both the individual child and the family unit in a variety of contexts, with unique combinations of services being provided on a case by case basis to respond to the needs of that particular family. Depending on what the situation calls for and how the social worker is being accessed— through a school, hospital, outreach program, etcetera— they may provide their clients with anything from emotional counseling and referrals to receive medical care, food, clothing, and housing assistance, to pamphlets detailing methods of care that the families can employ at home to best support their children with special needs. Social workers also play an important role by assisting disadvantaged families as their children grow and transition between school programs, community organizations, medical practitioners, and therapists. In these instances, social workers function not only as the liaison between the client and their service providers, but as the coordinators responsible for ensuring a successful transition; they monitor the needs of the child and family, and work to ensure that these needs are met throughout the transitional process. It is the on-going social worker’s responsibility to provide professional child welfare social work services, through home visits, to the family. This is done by assessing the family’s strengths and needs, developing
School social workers are able to recognize the dysfunction in school settings and advocate for system change. They are able to effectively intervene in reducing these children's and adolescents' out-of-school placements. The social work profession, which operates within these practices and policies, has a responsibility to learn about these issues in their local communities, pinpoint what needs to change, and pave the way in juvenile courts and schools for the inclusion and rehabilitation of these children rather than depriving them of their right to an
As I read the case study of Almeada and baby Anne, I was inspired by her case manager Barbra LaRosa, she provided social care and became the “bridge” between Almeade and the systems. One function of bridging is to narrow the gap between the services being offered and the needs of the individuals who are receiving those services. (Woodside, M. R. (2015). An Introduction to the Human Services, 8th Edition) Ms. LaRosa applied social care to Almeada while she was pregnant with baby Anne, she recognized Almeada's problems in living and since she worked at the school, and Almeada had not returned from summer break, she reached out to her to see what was going on and learn more about her life.

There was the child saving efforts that happened in the United States in the 1800’s that has helped to evolve the system of child welfare (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008). The first government department that focused on the safety of children was created in 1912, the children’s bureau still remains in today’s child welfare system (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008, p. 279). Based on the practice update from 2010 social workers in the child welfare field use strength based theory to help youth aging out of foster care. One point that was in the practice update is that the social worker is able to see strengths of the child and help them to see those strengths to set goals for their future (Torrico, 2010).

Social workers are also trained caseworkers in social service agencies who perform several functions which they use different components of the practice framework, the theoretical underpinnings to in order to build helping relationships. After interviewing a caseworker in a specific social agency there were advantages and disadvantages of methods along with challenges encountered in working in that specific agency. With all of this the functions, roles and responsibilities of a caseworker is what helps any agency to uphold

Social work is a career that I have recently become interested in pursuing. I spent many years with misconceptions concerning the sector. However, following three years of working close by these experts, I have picked up a more profound comprehension of the significance of the work. I am especially interested in working in child welfare along with terminally ill children. I have got to a stage in my career where I have started to search out instruction that will make me more efficient in creating plans and providing services for vulnerable people.
Child, family and school social workers work with children and families who are struggling with social and psychological issues at school, in the home or in their communities. Medical social workers assist individuals and families who are dealing with an illness or health-related issue. They help clients and their families navigate a range of issues, including coping, counseling, referrals and health education. Mental health and substance abuse social workers work with individuals, groups, families and couples to provide treatment for mental illness and substance abuse. Military social workers help service members and their families with the challenges of military life.
This is difficult process and should be coupled with use of theoretical approaches. Adams et al (2008) advocates that social workers need to use an eclectic approach to their practice by selecting different elements from theories in order to produce one approach appropriate for the individual’s needs. Epstein (1992) suggests that to overcome the limitations of theories continuous reflection and debate is vital to incorporate complex
Introduction In early childhood education, it is important for teachers to always consider and understand children and the families’ needs. Early childhood teachers cannot only work with their colleagues to face children and the families’ needs but also need to work with multi-disciplinary to collaborate the ideas with each other and discuss the best outcome for the children and the families in early childhood education setting together. So, the more explanation about the multi-disciplinary team is that teachers with different professionals such as psychologists, child social worker, police, adult social worker, health visitor or court working together to provide different services and support for children and the families’ needs. They are diverse professional groups who work together in order to collaborate, reflect, access and support children’s development, health and learning and also families' needs.

Out in the field, you can deal with anything from children that live in poor conditions, behavioral problems, to abuse and neglect. Social workers need to be able to identify children and families that are in need of services. ”Even in the United States, one of the most advanced countries in the world, some
Many social workers went from working in private agencies, to working with public agencies to help the people suffering from poverty. “1000 social workers took jobs in public sectors, they fought to train caseworkers and otherwise improve the public sector service”(Abramowitz, 1998, p.513.) Social workers as a change agent, aim to make a change and in this case, social workers were helping the people suffering from poverty. These challenges facilitate social workers to have an impact towards the people. This can also relate to person in environment, “Social workers realize that they must pay attention to the environment in which people live, and they work to change the environment so that if functions more effectively for individuals, families, and communities”(Segal, Gerdes, Steiner, 2014, p.7).
Acts 20:35 says, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This is why I have a want to help others. It is such a blessing to help someone. I love seeing happiness in anothers eyes knowing it is because of something I said or did. One endeavor that I’ve undertaken that utilized my college education to improve my community was tutoring and mentoring individuals in elementary, middle, and high school; some with and without learning disabilities, and some with and without troubled backgrounds.
