Multidimensional Biopsychosocial Assessment Social Work Setting and Role I am employed as an on-going social worker by the MA Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF is a child protection agency, which is responsible for protecting children from abuse and neglect and strengthening families. The Department has offices throughout the Commonwealth; I am located at the New Bedford area office. As an on-going social worker I am assigned families after a report of abuse or neglect has been reported, investigated and supported. Rosemary does not identify with a particular culture or religious practices, however she has her own set of beliefs that consists of self-reliance, putting her children’ s needs first and working hard, however this has not always been the case. The family became involved with the Department due to marijuana use during her pregnancy with James and subsequently, after six months of working with the Department, her children were removed due to multiple reports of abuse and neglect and a supported allegation of physical abuse of Jeremy by the youngest children’s father and domestic violence. Over the past year Rosemary has worked diligently to have her children returned to her care and custody. Rosemary is a single, Mother who is involved with the Department of Children and Families. For Rosemary’s involvement with DCF, society will judge her as a “bad parent;” she will not be allowed to participate in her child’s classroom, get a job in the medical field or work with children without having a DCF background check, despite the efforts she has made to better her parenting skills. She will be judged for being a teen mother, for having five children and mostly for being poor; even with Rosemary’s white privilege and employment, she lacks power because she is a poor, single mother. Shirley Cole (Family Court Counselor) prepared a report to the court tin May 2007 which included referring Rebecca for an addiction assessment. Rebecca provided me with a copy of a letter dated May 2007 to Shirley Cole from Addiction Services stating Rebecca completed an addiction assessment and was low Probability of a Substance Abuse Disorder. Shirley Cole stated in the conclusion of this report that her “clinical assessment is that Rebecca is a very capable, responsible, and mature young woman.” She states “Rebecca has demonstrated tremendous resiliency in spite of numerous personal and practical obstacles.” Shirley Cole continues to state that there was “no indication from collateral contacts with Child Protection, Police Services, the children’s Guidance Counselor or other professionals in Health Services, nor from Rebecca presentation across several contacts that there was any substance to the numerous allegations, John, her former partner, has made against her as a person or a parent.”
Tara Jones is a 16-year-old female who has been mandated by Alberdene County Court to Smith Center for Youth, residential facility, after running away from her current foster care placement with Ms. Judy Boot. Tara has come in involuntarily stating that she does not want to live in a residential facility and would rather hold residence with her maternal aunt, Sally Johnson. Tara feels that her behavior “is no big deal.” Smith Center for Youth will be closing and Tara will need to be transferred over to another residential facility, Tanner House. Her family therapist, Ida Dogoode, has behavioral concerns Tara that are present that lead to a questionable successful transfer.
Case 6 Gail and Louise are domestic violence workers who provide outreach services at the local courthouse. Because of the lack of an available private office, they conduct their peer supervision at a local coffeehouse, being careful only to identify their clients by their first name. A. The Narrative Format Relevant Background Data Ms. Apple is 36 year old African American female. She has been married twice and is currently divorce. She has two children ages 15 and 9 years old. Ms. Apple’s 15 year son resides with his father in Atlanta, Ga and her 9 year old daughter resides with the maternal grandmother, which is trying to obtain full custody. Ms. Apples also resides with her mother in Merry, Arkansas.
1-Does the Department of Human Services (DHS) child protective branch provide a system that positively impacts children in their care? Yes, in some case child protective services do prevent fatalities and abuse. They remove children from horrific situations but the process after the removal is questionable. 2-Is it ethical to pay foster parents to care for children temporarily but charges astronomical amounts for to parents desiring to adopt them?
Once Hazel entered the program, she begin working with DHR and Secure Dwellings to develop a plan for her to get her child back. Hazel’s son is now back with her and his youngest brother, a family reunited because of the stability the program afford her. We are currently assisting Hazel and DHR with getting Hazel permanent housing and employment in Birmingham. If everything continues to progress, Hazel will be in her own place by or before the date of this board meeting.
02/25/16 -The Assessment Summary has substantiated the child abuse and neglect as a FOUNDED. The mother has been charged with 40 criminal charges related to child abuse. (See Attached) 02/23/17 - Citizen Review Board, Josephine Circuit Court, Findings and Recommendations. Bethany remains placed in her long term DDS placement.

Ms. Stevens and her child, Tjayda Stevens are receiving preventive services with Harlem Dowling Westside Center for Children and Family Services (HDWC). Ms. Stevens’ case was referred from ACS and accepted thru HDWC on 03/02/2015. The services provided to Ms. Stevens are casework counseling, community advocacy, housing advocacy, and monthly home based visits to ensure stable family functioning and child safety. Ms. Stevens has been receptive to services since the agency obtained case planning responsibility. Administration for Children’s Services recommended the following service plan for Ms. Stevens to complete parenting and anger management class, individual counseling, and domestic violence.
