2.4 Issues of concern including, children 's needs, harms, risk and protective factors Issues of concern, children’s needs, harms, risks and protective factors in this case study are illustrated in this section through the use of social work knowledge, theories and values. The children’s needs can be assessed through the use of The Barker and Hodes Common Assessment Framework (CAF). This tool provides a nationally standardised approach to assessing children and young person’s in need and deciding how the needs should be met. The CAF focuses on three areas including developmental needs, parenting capacity and family and environmental factors (Barker & Hodes, 2007). It also takes into account the parent’s ability and willingness to take responsibility and work with professionals to achieve change. The Turnell and Edwards Signs of Safety which is a strengths based, safety oriented approach can also be utilised alongside the CAF. This strategy aims to work with all individuals involved in the case to assess and plan safety and reduce risk and danger through focusing on the resources and networks that the family has (Signs of Safety, 2015). This approach involves the issues of concern, strengths already …show more content…
The parents also tested positive to illicit substance use. Both Lindy and Ben clearly abused their daughters by ignoring their needs, putting them in an unsupervised and dangerous situation. This questions their parenting capacity. According to Bromfield, Lamont, Parker and Horsfall (2010), child abuse and neglect are most likely to arise from the interaction of risk factors including alcohol and illicit substance abuse. It is also evident that the cumulative effects of exposure to risks results in negative child outcomes and maltreatment (Begle Dumas & Hansom, 2010; Mackenzie, Kotch & Lee,
In David’s case there was no background investigation performed. Studies show child abuse is more prevalent in low income households. This was the case for David’s parents. Darlene grew up in a blue-collar home with a family of six. Her biological father abandoned the family when she was five and her mother remarried to an alcoholic who was verbally abusive and extremely strict.
Dana’s history of maltreatment, both from her birth family and foster families, may have been the cause of the lengthy list of social problems that followed. Poor outcomes are associated with children who are abused, runaway, and have a drug dependency problem. Literature has shown that children who are sexually abused as children have high risk of being a victim of commercial sexual exploitation, become addicts, and becoming pregnant as adolescents. Foster parents are supposed to protect children, yet Dana was exposed to additional abuse in out of home care. She was reunified to her parents
V. Study 3 pg317 -“The third study was designed to investigate estimates of more dynamic tasks, in which the components differed in scope and complexity. This study made use of a more realistic setting, asking professionals from the IT-industry to estimate a project that had already been completed in four different companies, where the actual numbers of work hours had been recorded.” -The authors referenced Forsyth and Burt (2008) who showed that time predictions can become less optimistic when a task is subdivided into segments. -To add the idea of segments into this experiment, the tasks are divided into smaller segments called “User Stories”. -A “user story” is a sentence in a software system.
If I could make a Ithaca College honors seminar I would have us examine what the use of silence can do with in art. We would examine this using multiple platforms including theatre, music, movies, as well as some literature and writings about the effect of silence. I would give the class the whole material and allow them to come to their own opinion on what exactly these pauses do. For each exposure to the material I would require the members of the class to do their own short individual reflect before coming in, to allow people to already have at least a bit of their own form opinion. This class would be mainly rooted in class discuss, I would help by providing questions or clips to help spark the conversation but I would hope it would be environment where people wanted to share their opinions and discuss with their classmates with help from me, the professor.
When working with children it is important that practitioners know that they have a duty of care towards them and the safety of the children is of paramount. According to the UN convention on the rights of the child (1989): children have the right to learn and develop, they have the right to be protected from harm and make choices. Children learn and develop by making choices, exploring and experimenting within the environment that surrounds them but they do not always posses the skill and judgement to make safe choices and decisions at all times. Therefore it is the responsibility of the practitioner to identify any potential dangers, and make the decision on when it is safe to allow the child to undertake an activity or make a decision.

CHM1 Task 2 A. Personal Values Here are my four top personal core values. 1. One of my personal core values is honesty. Being honest is personally meaningful to me because I believe that it is important for others to know that I am trustworthy and truthful so that they can feel secure that I will act in an ethical way. By being honest I gain trust, which matters to me.
This included liaising with parents, children, and relevant professionals from health, education, and specialist services, like those involved in parental substance misuse and mental health issues. Critically analysing wider knowledge obtained enabled me to make evidence-based recommendations for improvement, as well as detailing essential safety plans to protect children’s
The column dimensions were 10 in. in the north-south direction (denoted as y-direction on the confined concrete column cross-section) and 15 in. in the east-west direction (denoted as x-direction on the confined concrete column cross-section). A concrete cover of 0.75 in. was used on all sides of the confined concrete column. Eight ASTM A706 Grade 60 #7 deformed steel bars were used for the longitudinal mild steel reinforcement bars inside the confined concrete of the column.
Study Guide for Exam 2 Grandparents: Much younger than before. Text states that three fourths are grandparents prior to the age of 65. Half of the grandmothers are younger than 54. Grandparents are healthier and their lives are busier as they have multiple roles. The last two generations of middle aged adults will not have the same grandparent experience as their predecessors.
In all families, child abuse does occur even though we look the children are very happy from outside. Based on the research done by Janet Curie and Erdal Tekkin (2006), among the factors for child abuse are parents with lack of parenting skills. Some caregivers or parents never learn the skills on how to raise their kids. Teen parents, for example might have unrealistic expectations about how much care small children need or parents may raise their children as the way they were raised. Alcohol and drugs abuse are the most risky factor contributing to child abuse.
One unique thing in my writing process is the amount of time on proofreading that I spend on proofreading because it is more than the time that used in any other part of the writing process. Generally, I do not pay attention to spelling and grammar when I compose essays; thus, my first drafts typically contain abundant spelling and grammar mistakes no matter writing in English or my mother language. Due to this behavior, I rely on some online spelling check tools to ensure the readability of my writing assignments. One of my unique needs as I begin a writing assignment is that I prefer to write in the late night. I find that quality and of essays that I composed at midnight are better than any paper that I created in the daytime.
In this section of verses Jesus is explaining to his followers how to pray to God, this can be seen both in the book of Matthew as well as in the book of Luke (Harris, 2014). The version of this prayer is shorter in the book of Luke but delivers the same message. In this discussion we are asked to review the verses of the Lord’s Prayer contained in the book of Matthew. The first verse states, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” (Matthew 6: 9 NIV). This verse is addressing God as the Father, implying the belief of God as the Father (McGee, 2002).
Over the years in work with children and families, have applied and used the following theories and practices: • applied theoretical frameworks that explain certain aspects of the world (e.g., social systems theory, human development theory, non-oppressive theory, social development theory and attachment theory). • Used perspectives frameworks, which offer lenses through which to view client situations (e.g., strengths perspective, ecological perspective, and diversity perspective). • employed practice theories and models to guide practice (e.g., crisis intervention, empowerment model and cognitive behavioral
A Masterpiece by Mahler: Symphonie No.9 Music masterpieces should be interpreted with historical backgrounds, as they could demonstrate experience of individuals. As for Gustav Mahler, there were clues that he saw Symphonie No.9 as adieus to the world. Ub this four-movement work, he informs the world of his idea around death that it is inevitable but it cannot overpower everything. The first movement expresses a mixed feeling between despair of impending death death and fantasizing about the afterlife.
