Casey Anthony “Smell of Death” In the summer of 2008, Casey Anthony daughter Caylee Anthony was last seen on June 16, 2008. No one knows where she was nor did Casey report that her daughter was missing. Time went by with no sign of Caylee reappearing. Casey’s mother called and reported that her granddaughter was missing and that Casey’s car smelled like a dead body had been in there. In the Casey Anthony trial, a controversial piece of evidence had been brought up about whether or not the “smell of death” from the trunk of Casey’s car can be linked to and used as evidence in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. The smell that was in the trunk of Casey’s car could have been used as evidence in the trial. Why? Because it would have proven that, her daughter Caylee decomposed body was in the trunk of the car. The smell in the trunk of the car was tested and contained a large amount of chloroform and key compounds of human decomposition. Evidence is evidence but not all evidence is good, but the “smell of death” that was in the trunk could have been used as good evidence to the case. Why? Because they did not have any other good evidence to prove that she killed her daughter, but that one piece of evidence alone could have convicted her of murdering her daughter. According to Daubert, the “smell of death” evidence would have had to meet the criteria in order for it to be used as reliable evidence. First, the evidence needs to be tested to see if the expert can receive the same result each time, it needs to be done. …show more content…

Per to detectives, crime-scene evidence included residue of a heart-shaped sticker found on duct-tape over Caylee’s mouth. Unfortunately, investigators could not capture the photograph. A blanket was found at the crime scene that matched Caylee’s bedding at her grand-parents’ home. Another part of evidence was photos from Anthony’s ex-boyfriend portraying a poster with the caption “Win her over with Chloroform.” Witness John Dennis Bradley stated that Anthony searched for the word “chloroform” eight-four times.
In the 2008 controversial court case of Casey Anthony, the innocent verdict incorrectly acquitted her because of false information, location of remains, and hurtful intentions. Casey’s first lie involved her saying she has talked to Caylee. She was already dead. “Casey Anthony told police that she spoke to her daughter Caylee on July 15, 2008, the day Caylee was reported missing. She told
The story of Casey Anthony was more than odd. According to USA Today, Caylee Anthony went missing on July 15, 2008.In December of 2008, Caylee’s body was discovered in the woods near the Anthony household ( Boweman). Grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, had dialed 911 the day Caylee went missing to notify police that Casey Anthony had kidnapped the two-year-old; along with stealing a car and money. Though, it had been an odd phone call because once the car had been returned Cynthia had re-called the police saying “My daughter’s car trunk smells like there has been a dead body in it”. This is strange considering the articles of evidence found in the trunk.
Casey also lied about leaving Caylee with a babysitter who was never Caylee’s nanny. On top of all the lying that Casey Anthony did to the investigators, the cadaver dogs found the scent of decomposition in Casey Anthony’s trunk and in the backyard
Even though they were roommates, speculation of “contamination” does not prove the innocence of the suspect. Obviously, clear DNA evidence existed linking each suspect to the crime scene along with its significance in the
USA TODAY published an article “Casey Anthony breaks her silence: I sleep pretty good at night.” Anthony did an interview with Associated Press speaking about the case and her daughter’s death for the first time. The Associated Press said that the interview with Anthony was “revealing, bizarre and often contradictory, and ultimately raised more question than answers about the case.” In the interview with Associated Press, Anthony admitted to lying to the police about a number of things such as her employment, leaving her child with a babysitter, and receiving a call from Caylee before she went missing. During the trial, the defense stated that Caylee had drown in the pool and then Casey Anthony’s father tried to cover up the accident.
However, there no a sufficient evidence to prove that Casey Anthony and her parents know exactly how Caylee died. Caylee's remains were discovered less than half a mile from the Anthony residence with two trash bags, a laundry bag, a blanket, and pieces of clothing showing defects consistent with decomposition (Garavaglia et al., 2008). In this controversial case, there are some patterns that can lead to false child abduction homicides. In a study by Canning and colleagues (2011), many offenders who were involved in child homicides and later reported false abductions were biological parents, with mothers being the most common offenders. In this case after Casey been exonerated the question remain Who killed Caylee

Baez also says that Caylee drowned in the Anthony family pool on June 16, 2008, and that George and Casey Anthony covered up the death.” (Trial Fast Facts) The defense claims that the traces of chloroform found in the trunk occurred while covering up Caylee’s drowning. The prosecution argued that Anthony was a party girl, and unconcerned about her daughter. They stated that Anthony was responsible for the death of
Casey Anthony was found not guilty for murdering her daughter Caylee Anthony. Caylee Anthony was only two years old when she unfortunately passed away. On July 7, 2011 Casey Anthony was found not guilty in 3 counts including first degree murder but was found guilty of 4 counts because she provided false information to law enforcement. We all remember the O.J Simpson murder case as the most publicized criminal trial in American History.

In July of 2008, a woman named Cindy Anthony reported that her granddaughter, Caylee Anthony, had not been seen in over a month. The toddler lived with Cindy and her husband, George, as well as the toddler’s mother, Casey. More shockingly, Cindy reported that a pungent odor was coming from her daughter Casey’s car, a smell that was strangely similar to that of a decomposing body (Neubauer 24). Six months after this report was made, Caylee’s remains were found just blocks from the family’s home in Orlando, Florida. The main suspect was her mother: Casey Anthony.
