Some decisions you have to make in life are so difficult that we would rather not have to deal with them. George Milton had to decide the fate of his closest friend’s life. Lennie Small, a character from John Steinback’s book Of Mice and Men, is a childlike adult that George looks after. They were best friends until he accidentally killed the wife of their boss’s son. George had to decide whether or not he would kill Lennie mercifully, or let the rest of the worker's murder him. I believe George should have killed Lennie because he has hurt people, can’t control himself, and would have probably ended up in a horrible mental institution anyway.
Despite Lennie’s seemingly innocent nature, he hurts many people and animals throughout the story. He would pet mice and break their tiny bodies. He had a puppy and killed it for trying to bite him. He broke Curley’s wife’s neck when all she said was, “Feel right around there an’ see how soft it is,” (471) referring to her

George is responsible for making sure Lennie has food, stays out of trouble, and stays safe. These seem like simple things, but not with him. When they were in Weed, he wanted to feel how soft a girl’s dress was, and didn’t let go when she wanted him to. It got completely out of hand and they had the sheriff looking for him. His memory was so awful, that after they ran out of there, he didn’t remember what he had done. All this does, is prove once again that George made the right decision.
Killing Lennie was the kindest thing George could’ve done for him. Curley is always trying to start fights, so when Lennie, a very large man, shows up at the ranch he tried to assert his dominance. Lennie ends up crushing his hand, which makes Curley hate him even more. It just adds to the flames when Curley finds his wife dead in the barn. George did Lennie a favor by giving him a merciful death before Curley killed him in cold
George did the right thing by killing Lennie for multiple reasons. First off, if George did not kill Lennie, he would have suffered a much worse fate with the mob. He did the right thing by putting him out of his misery in the best way. The mob would have tortured him but George provided an instant and almost painless death
The side that I am choosing is that George should have killed Lennie because Lennie can’t live by himself, he is mentally challenged, and Curley would have killed him anyway if George didn 't. Lennie is mentally challenged and he likes to talk to dead animals and other different things. He gets in trouble a lot and can 't really do anything by himself because he will always be getting in trouble if he is by himself. “Jus wanted to feel that girl’s dress-jus wanted to pet it like it was mouse(Steinbeck 11). The quote proves my reason because Lennie got both George and Lennie in trouble because he wanted to feel a girls dress. George should have killed Lennie because Lennie can 't live by himself and I believe if George didn 't kill Lennie
Although those are good reasons to kill him lennie also did many good things to and therefor is why there is so many reasons why some people consider what George did wrong and it therefore doesn't make what George did justified due to him being his best friend and how he told so many people how he was looking out for lennie so he doesn't get in trouble on his own also for example lennie's aunt Claire and Carlson and curly dad therefore showing that he was lying about how he felt about lennie he even told lennie himself that his life would be easier without him Although some people believe George was wrong and some believe he was wright there are many reasons why it can go either way just because it can be considered euthanasia and due to lenine being considered a nuisance to himself and others but on the other hand it some say it isn't because lennie didn't get a say in whether or not on if he could live or die therefore making it not euthanasia but murder Therefore in conclusion George killing lennie is a huge topic that can go either way so to truly understand the topic you must read the book or watch the movie and come up with your own opinion on whether or not if what George did was euthanasia or just plain old
Imagine someone having to kill his best friend, but only to save his life. George Milton and Lennie Small, two characters in Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, are two migrant workers who happened to be the best of friends and created a brotherhood between each other during the Great Depression. George is a small, but lean and strong man, while Lennie is an extremely tall person with sloping shoulders and has an almost featureless face, and has a quite severe mental disorder that prevents him from remembering many things. The story takes place in the 1930s, while the infamous Great Depression took place, so George and Lennie were constantly on the move and meeting many different people along the way. At the conclusion of their friendship,
Was George justified in killing Lennie? George in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck was more than justified to kill his best friend, Lennie. George was his best friend and even though it was probably tough he did it for the greater good. This is a novel that takes place during the Great Depression and it is about two men, George and Lennie, who are walking to a ranch.
The novel Of Mice and Men poses a moral dilemma; is murder ever justified? Should George have murdered Lennie? George should have killed Lennie because worse things would have awaited him if he went to trial. George felt justified in killing Lennie because he felt he was saving him from a worse things.
From this quote it is understood that Curly didn’t have any care for Lennie, he would do anything to hurt Lennie because he was “cold”. If George didn’t kill Lennie himself it would have been a lot worse for him. Curley would have made him suffer and would have tortured him to death. George protected him from a harsh death by letting him go out by someone that loved him. George also
but he got scared. About a year later Lennie killed Curley's wife. The whole farm was after him. George made himself kill Leenie because Lennie didn’t know his strength.
When George found out that Lennie had killed Curley’s wife, he knew Curley was going to get revenge. Instead of letting Lennie be in any kind of pain, he killed lennie himself so that he wouldn’t suffer. After Lennie killed Curley’s wife, he said “ I’m gonna get him. I’m going for my shotgun”(Steinbeck 96). This meant that Curley had no hesitation at the thought of hurting Lennie.
One reason George should not have killed Lennie because everything that happened, was an accident. Lennie did not mean to kill Curley’s wife or the puppy. In the passage, Of mice and men, lennie says “I don’t want ta hurt you” (Steinbeck 91). This piece of evidence from the passage shows that Lennie did not mean to hurt Curley’s wife. Lennie only meant to keep her quiet , not kill her.
Lennie with his simple mind, always gets into trouble. This time, Lennie gets himself in a bind once again, that George can’t save him from. George decision to kill Lennie in the story, was due to his responsibility, sympathy, and love for Lennie. George’s decision to kill Lennie was out of sympathy for him.
And then about a year later when Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife, the whole farm was after him. George shot him in the temple of his head for a quick and painless death. Lennie had to be killed because he didn’t know his own strength. And he was too dumb to realize what he was doing. Also Curley and Carlson would’ve tortured Lennie and then killed
Curley used this as an excuse to kill Lennie. He really wanted to kill Lennie because he destroyed his hand though. Curley said he was going to blow Lennie's guts out and make him suffer and be in pain. George prevented this by shooting Lennie in the back of the head and ending him quickly. George killed lennie because if he didn’t, Curley would have made him suffer.
Another reason is the ranchers would’ve killed him no matter what so this way George ensured it was fast and painless. On the other hand, this was condemned because George had been saying how his life would be so much better without Lennie and this allowed him to be able to live that life. George's decision to kill Lennie was justified because Lennie was going to be killed no matter what. After all of the ranchers find out that Lennie killed Curley’s wife, Curley states that he is going to kill Lennie, "I'm gonna get him.
"Of mice and men" a novel by John Steinbeck which will be discussed in this paragraph evaluating two specific points, one of them is that George did the right thing by killing Lennie for many circumstances to be discussed later; and the second is about George was not supposed to kill Lennie under any reason because the life of every human being must be respected by every person in the world. George, seeing that Lennie did not have the ability to live on his own, always got into very serious problems and seeing that neither of them could get ahead because of those motives as you can see in the next quote: "I done a real bad thing," he said. "I shouldn 't of did that. George 'll be mad.
