Samples of seaweeds were collected seasonally between autumn 2012 and summer 2013 from the intertidal zone of Safaga (26o46ʹN, 33o56ʹE), Hurghada (27o12ʹN, 33o50ʹE) and Al-Quseir (26o5ʹN, 34o17ʹE) along the coast of the Red Sea, Egypt.
Water analysis
Surface water samples were collected seasonally, from the same areas and during the same time of sampling of macroalgae and all variables were measured in triplicate for each sample. Water temperature was measured in situ. Before analysis of seawater, the samples were filtered through Whatman glass microfiber filters GF/C (pore size 1.2 m) (Grasshoff et al. 1999). Water pH was measured using a digital pH meter (pH, 211 Hanna instruments, U.S.A). Electrical conductivity (EC, mS.cm-1) were measured by Coductometer (YSI Model 35 yellow spring, OH, USA).

For this analysis, each environmental variable was firstly analyzed separately (excluding the other variables) in the marginal test, for testing the probable relationship with the data of multivariate community. The variables were then exposed to a forward selection process (sequential test, R2 selection criterion), where, the variability amount described by each variable added to the model is conditional on the variables previously in the model. The P values for the marginal tests were obtained by using 9999 permutations of the non-normalized and transformed data. Then, the sequential tests were done using 9999 permutations of residuals under the reduced model (Anderson 2001). In our study, the DistLM analysis was based on Jaccard and taxonomic similarity of diatom species data and data from environmental
The aim of this experiment is to test the changes in and effects o abiotic and biotic factors along a transect line form low tide to high tide in the mangroves at Nudgee Beach. The hypothesis is that at low tide the soil texture would be brown clay with a pH of 9-10, however; at high tide the soil would be light brown sand with a ph of 8-9. Mangroves are classified as facultative halophytes. This means that they are adapted to living in salty soil, along the seashore or in salt flats (Halophyte, 2015). The reason they are classified as halophytes, is because ocean water is not a substantial requirement for development.
The European School of Molecular Medicine states that E. gracilis has a high sensitivity to environmental changes such as the change in pH levels (Petersen-Mahrt 1997). The pH level [of the environment] can directly distress the absorption of nutrients in marine environments. E. gracilis has been found to endure an expansive range [compared to] other algae (Danilov and Ekelund 2001). Through studies done by William J. Robbins, a botanist from Columbia University, E. gracilis has been found to grow best at a pH level of 3.0
The Color of Water, by James McBride, is about his journey to find who his mother is and who he is. It talked about problems between different races and between jews and society. Many of the events that the characters went through are relatable and heart breaking. The Color of Water is a heart-touching story.
The Pacific Ocean’s water temperature can range from lower than the freezing point of water (29 degrees fahrenheit) to 86 degrees fahrenheit. These temperatures can vary because of the location of the Pacific Ocean, some areas are closer to the equator or on the equator. and others are farther north/south. The Pacific Ocean’s yearly weather pattern is pretty consistent the northern pacific is warmer because this area is closer to the equator and the southern part is colder because this area is closer to Antarctica. The Pacific Ocean has no seasons because the southern part is closer to Antarctica and Antarctica is always cold.
Destructors of Empires: The Sea People of the Bronze Age Mam sirah Sallah Who were the mysterious land invaders and raiders who troubled various lands during the bronze age? This is a question most scholars ponder upon, it is still a mystery today, who these people were and where they came from. The term “Sea People” is a modern name given to group of sea warriors who invaded the Mediterranean. These individuals did not appear until the final period of the bronze age.
Sediment and nutrient pollution is a huge contributor to the poor water quality in the bay. While some nutrient variation is expected due to normal changes in weather,
1. After reading the “Color Theory” by Kayghee Reynolds, I have come to appreciate the idea that there is more in the world than one would imagine. Especially when you take into consideration of the moral aspect of the story, when Sam would perceive the world as black and white, seeing that Sam felt like she was missing a specific compartment that would stimulate her entire life. This was obviously seen when Sam would head to her mind-numbing occupation, and when she would spend time with Jake and Sally at the bar. However, Sam’s life would eventually turn around, because when Sam could no longer take the noise upstairs, she would go marching upstairs and complain about the sound.
However, the rate at which the species were discovered became less and less. This correlates with the Species Area Relationship (SAR) theory as proposed by Arrhenius. When graphed, in both plots we notice a curve. This to correlates within the SAR theory in a small area. As we did not analyze a large area, which encompassed multiple biomes, we did not find the “s” shape graph, which is evident in figure 1 in the literature review.
Might I offer that now would be a good time to build desalination plants powered by LFTR technology that takes advantage of thorium as a potentially cheaper and safer form of nuclear power. Big-bad Israel seems to be a world-leader in desalination. From what I 'm read they 're pretty close to being "hydro"-independent. Water is easy to obtain from seawater by reverse osmosis or distillation. Not hard at all.
The use of naval power throughout history proved its importance, especially on its strategic utility. The utilization of naval capabilities as to projection of power dates back to the 5th century when the Achaemenid Empire battled against the Greek and Egyptian threats (Giok, 2010). Thus, this essay seeks to provide an understanding on the importance of sea power as a strategic avenue for world domination. This essay hypothesizes on the notion that a state, who has the capability to control the sea through its naval power fueled with economic supremacy and alliances, dominates the world.
Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
The topic of this research paper will cover over Ocean Acidification and the effects on marine ecosystems. Ocean acidification is the decrease in pH levels of the Earth 's oceans, due to overbearing carbon dioxide being brought by the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide is drawn by seawater, where the chemical reactions take place, which minimize the pH levels in the ocean, the carbonate levels and the important calcium carbonate which these sea creatures need. When carbon dioxide disperses in this ocean, it causes the levels of acidity to rise towards the the surface, where most shell growth in marine animals have been stopped and has created the cause of reproductive disorders in multiple fish. Part of the problem with ocean acidification is human activity.
The ocean… The sound of the waves applauding and hugging the shore. The internal sounds of the body out in the world’s biggest swimming pool. The echo of my sister’s laughter. The salty smell so strong that one can taste it dancing on ones taste buds.
ABSTRACT The ecosystem is an ecological system formed by the relationship reciprocity is inseparable between living things and their environment. Aquatic ecosystems lab course pooled aims to acknowledge and study of the characteristics of the aquatic ecosystem is pooled. This lab course held on Sunday, 29 August 2010 in Situ Gede region Quadrant II at station 6. Methods undertaken in this lab course is sampling (sampling methods) which includes interviews, field observation and data collection techniques with some parameters, as the nature of physics, chemistry, and biology, then conducted the analysis ofsamples in laboratory.
I was 34 last year (yes I know I keep telling everyone) and I am in the best shape of my life. I have more energy now than I had when I was 18. My body was better equipped at 18 but I certainly feel a lot better than I did then. I find it funny therefore that we accept the fact that as we grow older, we have to just “slowly waste away”. There are some classic excuses flying about age, “I am overweight because I am forty” or “That is just what happens when you get on a bit” From a mindset point of view, a lot of people convince themselves that healthy eating and exercise has to completely stop when we reach a certain age.
