Shooting at School: An Essay

The attacker did not make threats their targets prior to the attack 4. There is no good profile for a school shooter suspect 5. Most of the time the shooter does something before the incident to cause other to be concerned or indicate that they need help 6. The attackers do not handle or cope with major losses or personal failure well and many are suicidal 7. Many of the school shooter feel bullied, persecuted, or hurt by others 8.

Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.

Since the mass shooting at a school in Sandy Hook in 2012, more than four hundred innocent people have been killed in more than 200 school shootings. Insane right? Sadly, gun violence has been a common occurrence for the past number of years, yet there are still no specific gun laws in the United States. Society expects excellence and perfection from every child growing up in today’s generation. The pressure can be too much for some, breaking them down, leading to awful events.

Mass shootings have been a major issue in this country. One common place these shootings take place is on school grounds. These events keep happening with really no solution to put an end to these tragedies. Recently, a bill had been proposed in Wisconsin that would lift the ban on guns in campus buildings in UW schools. This means more guns on campus.

Since media has increased the amount of violence shown, the rate of school shootings and threats have dramatically increased. This was presented in the author's text, but then rebuttled with the quote, “Fear, greed, power-hungry, rage: these are aspects of ourselves that we try not to experience in our lives but often want, even need, to experience vicariously through stories of others”, by Melanie Moore, Ph.D. This statement is flawed, because although humans feel these aspects, being exposed to violence enhances the feelings, and also makes one feel like those aspects are

Not only youth is affected by gun violence at home or in the streets but also by violence in school. The University of Michigan did a survey saying whether being in or out of school a large amount of high school seniors admitted to being threatened by a weapon. From 1992 to 1994 school related homicides and suicides doubled. Many student grow up being bullied. These students have a hard time during school.

School shootings are something that happen rather often here in America, that most of us seem to be getting increasingly (and alarmingly) desensitized to; a simple Google search could tell one everything they need to know about the most recent shooting, which, at the time of writing, was at a Dickenson High School. The first thing someone should ask in this situation is ‘why, exactly, is this happening?’, and there are plenty of people who would be willing to give a different opinion to why this is happening. Whether someone believes it is the effects of lax gun control, or violent video games, or even poor mental health care, there is no denying that this is a recent phenomenon. Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.

A nonprofit group that attempts to prevent gun violence called “Everytown for Gun Safety,” released a statement about school shootings. The organization claimed that the school shooting at “[Marjory Stoneman Douglas High] is the 18th school shooting in the U.S. in 2018.’” (Cox and Rich). In less than three months, there have been eighteen school shootings. This shows that schools are no longer a safe environment.

The Fight for Gun Rights In 2015, a man named Chris Harper-Mercer shot and killed eight of his fellow classmates, and injured nine others. All throughout his life Mercer had mental and emotional issues, yet in the aftermath of the massacre, people put more blame on the gun than on Mercer himself (Healy and Lovett). In the past few years gun laws have become more strict because people believe they are a danger to society. That, however, is not always true.

Inside the mind of a school shooter. I found this article very interesting because this couple of years we been hearing and watch in the news that a lot of shooting is going on everywhere, but I think there is more shooting in school. I have been thinking that everything start to happen since technology start to be more popular. Now kids can watch a lot thing online. For example, of how to make booms or how cool they think they are is they shoot.

School shootings and active shooter situations are one of the hottest topics in America right now. There is nothing more tragic than turning on the television or radio and hearing about the deaths of children. The primary argument is that no one can ever seem to agree on what the cause of these events are, and if they can be stopped before they occur. Lately it seems that there are more and more of these events occurring, however some researchers argue that this is not the case (Rocque, M. (2012). Others argue that while the events themselves may not be increasing the high amount of publicity these events get from the mainstream media makes it seem that they are occurring more frequently (Snell, C., Bailey, C., Carona, A., & Mebane, D. (2002).

Should teachers and students legally be allowed carry guns? Is it safe to allow teachers and students to carry guns? Will it be safer to give this permission only to the one group? These are difficult questions that create controversial opinions. News show schools, universities and other educational institutions had mostly negative impact of weapons.

I, a student that belongs to Toms River High School North here in New Jersey write to you concerning our nation’s mass problem with school shootings. There are multiple ways that we can reduce the rate at which these crimes happen and secure the lives of our teachers and other students similar to me around the state. After the recent shooting in Florida, several kids were scared out of coming to school in the days following which should not happen. People should feel comfortable coming into school knowing they are protected at all times. There are different measures that can and should be taken into action so that future school shootings can be prevented.
