Finally, my third change will be taking a more energetic approach to furthering my education, so I am able to have the skills I need to make effective decisions with the two-up, two-down approach in mind (Schmalz, 2015, np). Throughout Ken Kesey’s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the balance of power is challenged in the psychiatric ward. Out of the several leaders that appear in the novel, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy are the most prominent. During Nurse Ratched and McMurphy struggle for power, they share many of the same qualities. It is argued that: “McMurphy and Ratched are alike in intelligence, military service, distinctive (if opposite) clothing, and conventionally masculine qualities” (Evans). These small similarities; however, do not distract the characters from fighting for their individual beliefs.

I have never been interested in a management position there primarily due to the terrible types of managers I was surrounded by, even though I had assisted in management positions numerous occasions and had been offered management positions. A year and a half ago I found the perfect position for me though.

Now days good leaders seem to be few and far between in our political atmosphere. Those in power who are not fit to lead tend to be overzealous in their planning, lie about their previous actions, or disregard the needs of their people. Their inability to be capable leaders is mainly due to the lack of a character trait which is imperative in successful leadership: humility. Humility is required in traits such as being slow to anger, displaying patience, and being teachable by others.

Specifically, the purpose of this study is to identify commonality, or lack thereof, of the multiple leadership behaviors outlined in the theoretical framework. For example, transactional, transformational, passive/avoidant traits could all be found, but which type is dominant? While much research exists using this leadership model in a variety of organizational contexts, aviation and specifically collegiate flight training programs largely have been ignored by researchers. To me, it is hard to define what leadership is, especially in one sentence, but I agree with you that leadership is the action of leading others or an organization.
