here are many different conflicts between people, who usually have different values, ideas, personality, yet at the same time there are many approaches how to resolve those kind of conflicts. Conflict Management teaches us various procedures and skills which we should all understand, and know how to apply in order to handle tough situations. The movie Remember the Titans is the best example of showing number of conflicts.
The main biggest issue in the movie is a racial problem. Everything started when two schools decided to merge and form one football team. In the beginning it was hard to accept this situation, as white and black people could not agree to co-operate together. Nevertheless, Coach Boone did not give up, and worked hard to
“After the 1966 championship, college teams throughout the south began aggressively recruiting black athletes, ending years of shameful segregation” (UTEP’s Glory Road: The Team). After playing his all black starters he won a game no one thought they could. This paved a pathway for all
In 1966 the Miners of Texas Western University made history. Don Haskins did not see race instead he saw players that could win games. During 1966, when Civil Rights were on the forefront, one coach, Don Haskins, went against the grain; and recruited seven black players based on their skills, which changed the face of collegiate basketball for years to come. Don Haskins once said, “ If you want to win you have to recruit.” This is where he became a genius.
In the documentary They start having big problems of racism. The first fact i found in the documentary was That some of the people in eastern kentucky Didn’t support them because they were black , and some of the other people supported them throughout the whole documentary in fact They still supported them even if they were losing or if the team was corrupting with problems. In the 1970s two small schools in Virginia integrated to form T.C. Williams high school. There was a lot of backlash through both communities as the thought of African Americans and Caucasians attending the same school angered a lot of people. The tensions came to a head when the head football coach was replace by Herman Boone an African American coach from North Carolina. Several of the white players wanted to protest and quit the team out of respect for both their coach and fear that their new coach wouldn’t give them the playing time they deserved. The former coach Bill Yoast agrees to join the team as an assistant so the players will continue playing the game.
Conflict can be defined as a struggle or clash between opposing force and is important to human life experience. There are a multitude of factors which can stimulus conflict between individuals, group, man and the environment or within one's self. There are many conflicts in the book "Sweetgum Slough" written by Claire Karssiens. The three conflicts that stood up to me are Louis vs. Schmeling, Karssiens vs. new school, and Karssiens brother vs. Panther.
Conflict has been around since the beginning of time: Satan tempting Adam and Eve, the Pharaoh and his enslavement of the Israelites, events such as World Wars 1 and 2, et cetera. Creating a conflict is the easy part. Realizing there is a conflict and finding a way to compromise is often the hard part. Unfair working conditions and inequality at Kohler factories in Wisconsin led to the conflict of the 1934 Kohler Strike. This resulted in the compromise of better working conditions.
On March 19th 1966, college basketball fans in the southern and eastern portion of the United States were glued to the television as the starting lineup for the 1966 National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball Division I national championship game was announced. At this moment, no Kentucky Wildcat fan could believe their eyes or ears; Don Haskins, head coach of Western Texas, was starting five African American players for this monumental game. This particular lineup, in terms of race, had never been done before in NCAA basketball tournament history. After the final buzzer, Texas Western defeated the heavily favored, previous three time National Championship winners Kentucky Wildcats, coached by basketball legend Adolf Rupp. In the Civil Rights Era, there were many brave African American men who were breaking through the color barriers in collegiate and professional sports.
Sports teach you life lessons like to not give up, and to always do your best. However, a life lesson is not “blacks better watch out for whites”. It doesn’t matter if you are black, white, orange, purple, or red because you can perform just like everyone else. Coach Boone created a less hostile environment for his
Although winning would secure his job as coach, his main goal racial equality between the players were defiantly his vision for the team. By achieve this goal the players learnt to respect each other which created greater results for the team. Events that lead to achieving his vision was training camp, most importantly was showing Gettysburg graveyard where the biggest battle in the Civil War occurred. Coach Boone’s speech engaged them to act on what he said. Forcing them to ride, room and eat together pushed boundaries for the players but all succeed in fulfilling his goal.
During the early 1960s, the Loyola Ramblers became a pivotal educational establishment to include more African American players than other teams throughout the country. The historical facts presented by Lenehan (2013) define the differences between the number of black players playing on the team in comparisons to other teams during the racial integration period of sporting events Coach George Ireland of the Ramblers had defied conventions by starting four black players: “It couldn’t have happened if Coach George Ireland hadn’t flouted the conventions of the day by starting four black players nigh in and night out” (Lenehan 56). This major innovation defines the influence of the Civil Rights Movement to begin including black players into predominantly all-white leagues. Lenehan adequately defines the numeric validation of Coach Ireland’s pioneering use of multiple black players that were used in these collegiate
And hate will not win in life or football. It is the early 1970’s tension in the community is on the rise between the black and white. Word is they will be desegregating one of the high schools to bring down the tension. T.C Williams is born but tension rises even more with white parents and black parent not wanting their children to be mixed together. Now to the football team which in past years has had a good team that was all white.
A Long Way Gone Forest fires engulf tall rows of trees, turning green leaves and the homes of animals into ashes. Although fires leave a destructive trail of darkened groves, they create a chance for new life to develop. Nutrients find their way through the ashes into new soil, a new life begins to flourish, and old wreckages create new homes. Ishmael Beah, the author of ‘A Long Way Gone’, tells his readers his story that one man could never forget; new opportunities and chances for a better life often flourish in the ashes created from past challenges. The book ‘a long way gone’ is based on true events experienced by the author.
We see people getting hate mail, getting it told to their faces, and behind closed doors. When the coach found out his family was getting death threats and hate male he could have easily just been like I can't take this and bench the black kids but it took courage to keep the black kids playing. Also, the kids get yelled at and beaten they could have gone home and went back to work but what good would that have done. As you can see this team and people related to this team went to hell and back cause they had a minority of white boys. They had to have courage from the very first game to the national championship game.
