Segregation, the separation of different racial groups in a country or city, is the primary cause of racial differences and disparities in a society. This is the main reason which declines a persons health, well-being and lifestyle. The author of this article is trying to state out that segregation between Whites and Blacks is causing a lot of racial differences in their socioeconomic status by determining access to education and employment opportunities. Blacks are the most racial group that is targeted by segregation and this limits the choices they can make and opportunities they can encounter in their life. The author also states and concludes that measures must be taken to eliminate racial disparities in health.

All of these different aspects of social stratification are found all over the US today. This article discusses events that took place in 2013. From the very beginning of “American” history, other groups of people who were not of European decent were discriminated against and treated inhumanely and without the smallest regard for their lives. Native American populations were decimated by diseases brought oversea by Europeans and forced from their ancestral lands by settlers to make room for their expanding populations.

It has often been said that “that this is a greatest period for people of all races to live in.” Yet with change in society over time , there has a been a divide over the truth about that statement. In dialogue about race issues within the United States, one controversial issue has been about systemic racism towards people of colour, in particular, black americans. On one hand, Ralph Ellison, a recent predecessor to our present time argues that no matter what the future holds, people will judge others based on their association, their image, which will. In relation, a modern black activist group, Black Lives Matter, argues that even though change has come to America race relations, black people are still endangered by the system.

Today in class, we discussed a topic that is deeply engraved in American history yet widely avoided by many: race. More specifically, terms like “racist,” “All Lives Matter,” and “white privilege,” which may make some people uncomfortable but more than ever, need to be confronted and examined. We watched several videos containing a variety of people discussing their own personal thoughts and feelings on such terms to spark our own conversations on the same topics. After viewing the first video on the word “racist,” I began to reflect on my own actions towards other people.

It is not hard to believe that in today’s day and age people are actively prejudice. It is not hard to believe that people have a mindset build around the common stereotypes we see in society. IATs, implicit association tests, are designed to measure implicit associations one may have. The purpose of the tests are to understand one’s self, behavior, and attitudes. IAT and environments have a strong correlation and can predict the behaviors of an individual.

After a troublesome and torrid time, the black people or what so called slaves, were entering the 20th century with hope of not being discriminated after the slavery had been abolished in the late 19th century. The beginning of 20th century had overseen the stampede of worldwide immigrants to America as they seek for a better life. As for African-Americans, they were entering the phase where they found themselves almost identical with the past century despite the slavery being abolished. Though the abolishment of slavery was written in the 13th Amendment, some of the states still legalized it. They were still in the same position as they were before in some of the states in America.

Wealth and Inequality in America Inequality The inequality in America has increased over time; the gap between the rich and the poor has become a problem that many Americans don’t see. Inequality is the extent of income which is distributed unequally among the citizenry. The inequality of the United has a large gap between the poor and the rich making it unfair to the population, the rich are becoming wealthier and the poor remain poor. Stiglitz describes that there is a 1 percent amount of American’s who are consuming about a quarter of the United States income in a year.

Most people nowadays often become victim of violence by the things that they believe in. Whether it is race supremacy, religion, or gender, people are deluded by thinking their beliefs and values are correct; which leads them to injuring and possibly killing others with opposing opinions. One of the biggest reasons people fight is race supremacy. People that believe that their race is better than anothers. Some people even go the the extent of killing people of other races to try and prove that they have superiority.

An analysis of the Problem with the Amount of Racism If you are a person of color, or even a white person, somehow there will be someone to offend you and make a racial comment or announce some racial stereotype. While many Americans claim to have black, Latino, or Asian friends, racism still continues in everyday life. The problem about racism is that no matter how hard one tries to get rid of it, it will always be existent. Although racism may be declining now compared to the early days, it is still difficult for many blacks and Latino to obtain good well-paying jobs, or even menial jobs.

This chapter explains the difference between race and ethnicity and how they came about. It also explains the advantages and disadvantages some have due to the creation of race. Race and ethnicity have strong foundations not only within countries, but between them. Globalization has increased the individual’s ethnic identities, but has also put some at disadvantages. Having different races and ethnicities is not an issue, but ranking the different races and putting others at disadvantages creates issues.
